I first picked up a camera after my son was born in 2010.

My parents live in the USA and they saw that I was taking lots and lots of photos of my new baby boy, so they bought me my first DSLR. From then on I became obsessed with capturing real moments. I grew up performing, and was used to being in front of the camera, not behind it! But coming from a creative background made the transition into photography a seamless one.

NotNot to say there weren't bumps in the road. I pushed myself to learn and shoot every single day. Since that first year of learning I have been published in two magazines, have formed a partnership with a nationally known retailer, significantly upgraded my gear to a pro-level camera, shot 3 commercial shoots, one wedding, and over 50 families. I also welcomed a second addition, a baby girl, to our family in 2013.

II love singing and dancing, acting crazy, and obviously documenting lots of everyday moments. You’ll see lots of my own family on my website (sorry!) and on social media. My kids are crazy, and they are my favorite subjects to capture. I love them fiercely.

Too often we take photos of our kids and never take the time to be IN the photos. This is something that I want to change. In 2015, document your family as they are, with you IN the photos. Make your family’s memory a priority and book a session with me. Our kids grow up way too quickly, don’t put it off! My family sessions are all about capturing you as you are. Every single session is unique.

FAMILY SESSIONS?

Initially Sharleen and Scott purchased the entire

gallery of digital images (about 250!) and at the

time that came with a magazine style photo book.

However, I decided to upgrade them to a

gorgeous 60 page fine art album to showcase

their images and give them the longevity that

they deserve.

Sharleen and Scott with baby A were one of my all

time favorite sessions this year. From the very first

phone call to our coffee catch up to plan the

session I was really excited to work with them.

They hadn’t worked with a photographer since

their wedding, so I knew this was a big deal for

them and I was honored to have been chosen to

capture these memories. capture these memories.

We decided on a beach location in the National

Park where Scott had planned on proposing to

Sharleen back when they first got engaged. I love

picking meaningful locations, it just adds a whole

new dimension to the images. The weather that

day was cloudy and overcast, but in the end it

made for perfect light during their shoot.

FAMILY FABULOUSNESS

COOL AND CALMKidsKids are best in the morning when they’re at their happiest. Well rested and fed, a calm, fun energy should make for the perfect shoot time for kids and siblings. Nap times and evenings are generally more complicated times since young ones are often both hungry and tired at this time, however if putting them to sleep is a time that you cherishcherish this can make for a perfect time to document. Golden hour (aka sunset) can make for beautiful light, so if you choose this time of day make sure the kids have a late nap + a snack before (or during!) your session.

GET THE LOOKAvoid the matchy matchy look. It’s nice to coordinate colours, but just keep it relaxed and natural. Stick to neutral colours that won’t distract from your personalities. Or just wear whatever feels right for you, with documentary style photography, the clothes really don’t matter.

CLEAR THE CLUTTERIfIf your session is in your home, make sure the space is clear of anything you wouldn’t want in the photo’s. I don’t do any extra photoshopping to remove items from an image.

CAN’T BUY ME LOVEBuildBuild up the session to children as it really is—a time for fun and togetherness. There’s no need for bribes when the event itself is the reward.

CHILL PILLCalm your own lens nerves. Relaxed parents have more fun, which helps kids become most comfortable for the best shots.

PETS ALLOW EDPETS ALLOW EDIf you bring your pet Sparky to the family shoot, make sure to get some brisk exercise with your pup before coming. This will allow for a (hopefully) slightly calmer canine during your shoot.

We meet view your images and decide on how you would like to use your credit. During this time we can decide on what size and arrangement of prints would look best in your home, the type of album you would like to order, and/orand/or which digital images you wish to purchase. I will bring samples with me so that you can see what it is you are purchasing.

I call or email you to schedule a time for you to view your images and decide on how you would like to use your credit.

During the session, I’m basically a fly on the wall. My objective will be to capture all of the things that you listed in your answers to the questions plus more.

We meet up for coffee to dis-cuss your answers to the ques-tionnaire, decide on any other details for your session and get to know one another.

After chatting on the phone and sending your quote, I will send you an online questionnaire to fill out to get some ideas aout what daily memories you’d most like to capture. We’ll work togeter to determine a time frame and locationlocation for your session and then we set a date.

AsAs a mother who has carried

and given birth to two babies,

I know how easy it is to make

excuses about getting in front

of the camera. I also know

how it feels to grow up

without many photos of my

ownown mother because she felt

too overweight and

embarassed to be in photo’s

often. What do I remember

about my mother at that age?

She was warm, and soft, and

had the best lap for laying my

head on.head on.

Too often we take photos of

is something that I want to

change. In 2015, document

In the spirit of walking the

walk. we had a family session

with my dear friend Heidi from

Heidi Ramaker Photography

recently. Although I still felt

nervous because I haven’t

quite lost the baby weight, I

knowknow that in 5, 10, 20 years

from now I will look back on

these images and be so

thankful that I didn’t listen to

that inner voice saying I

wasn’t thin enough. I will have

these memories of my

childrenchildren at this gorgeous age,

captured by someone other

than me. And I will remember

how much joy and love was in

our lives at this time.

They have a mind of their own when it

comes to food and sleep, and for this

reason I allow plenty of time for feeding

and settling. This session is all about

capturing the tiny details of your newborn

from their nursery to the day to day tasks

of caring for them.. of caring for them..

PLANNING AHEAD

It’s best to book your newborn session well in advance,

because my diary does fill up quickly. I will pencil in your due

date and then when your baby arrives simply email me to let

me know and I will schedule your session date.

AWAITING ARRIVAL

Every newborn session includes a complimentary 30 min

baby bump story. These sessions document your life in the

lead up to your baby’s birth. This could include shopping for

baby clothes, decorating the nursery, or even just relaxing on

the lounge with a cuppa!

most families end up with at least 100 images. I love putting

together albums to showcase your family’s story, and this is a

great time saver for you as well. Many of my clients love having

an album from their session each year to display in their home,

and the kids love looking through them and reminiscing about

family life when they were younger.

family’s story each year. We’ll choose 2-3 locations that are

significant to you, whether it’s your home, going out for ice
