Covenant: The Next Generation

In God We Trust. Our tithing is not so much about what we give back to God but how. Why did God accept Abel’s sacrifice and not Cain’s? The Bible tells us that Abel gave of the first fruits and Cain gave what was left over. Abel had faith. Before he knew what his yield would be, he gave what he had. Abel trusted God. That is what we do when we pledge. None of us knows what the next year will bring. Only God knows. But we know that wherever we turn in our lives, we see God’s great bounty and blessings. We know that He loves us and he cares for us. So, we must believe in him like Abel, and Abraham, and Moses. We must be bold in setting aside His portion first and trust that He will bless us with everything we need. Our currency is engraved with “In God we Trust”. How true is that statement in your life?

As we enter November, we have been collecting pledges for three Sundays, with two more to go. So 60% of our Sundays have passed and we have raised $182,000 or 60 % of our goal. We have only received about 52% of our anticipated pledge cards. If you haven’t made your pledge please get it in as soon as possible. You can drop them in the offering plate, drop them by the church office, or email them to Judy McCurdy at [email protected].

MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR:

Dear Friends,

Sunday, November 12 is Dedication Sunday. It is the day on which we ask you to make a financial commitment to the work of Christ’s Church and the Covenant Presbyterian Church in particular.

We are called to be good stewards of all the resources God has entrusted to our care. In order to do that, your elders will be establishing a budget for the coming year to guide us in good stewardship. We need to antici-pate our income as well as our expenses.

One of my favorite stories about stewardship from the Bible is the story of the widow who drops two coins into the Temple treasury. No one is watching her that day, probably because they did not think she had any-thing to give. But Jesus saw her and commented: “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them; for all of them have con-tributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in all she had to live on.” (Luke 21) Apparently, this poor widow is the one to watch in considering the meaning of stewardship and sacrifice. It is not the amount that counts, but that which is in our hearts and that we give which is of concern for Jesus. All of us have something we can give to the work of Christ’s church here on earth.

Please prayerfully consider what you might contribute in the year to come.

God has truly blessed us in order that we might become a blessing to others.

Pastor Debbie

The flower arrangements each Sunday add so much to the beauty of our sanctuary and we are fortunate in having a talented arranger in our church family. As often as possible, she uses flowers from her yard but more often, does need to purchase flowers. If you would like to give flowers in honor or memory of someone, call Judy Raybon 919-365-3923 or the church office. Cost is $60 AND you can take them home!! (Donations accepted also). The calendar for signing up for flowers next year will be on the bulletin boards soon. Watch for them and get your Sunday of choice to honor or remember someone special.

of the month at 7:00 PM. Our interest for 2017-2018 will be to keep in touch with the students in college. We will give them support through our good wishes in cards we plan to send to them each month. In order for this to happen we will need names and school addresses. This will be our way to let them know that they are important to our Covenant Christian family and that we continue to support them. Please send names and addresses to the church office.

The Presbyterian Women will host the spaghetti dinner and auction for the “Pastors Discretionary Fund” on November 4th. We plan to have our country store stocked with baked goods, specialty food items, and hand-made craft items for sale. All of you talented folks are encouraged to donate items for sale and for the silent auction. Special note, please hold on to yard sale items for the spring when another special event will require those types of items. Thank you in advance for helping make this event successful. Let’s go crafty people start creating!
