From the principal’s desk:
Thank you to all the parents
and students who took part
in the working bee last
Saturday. We now have the
beginnings of an orange
orchard along the front
path, beautified gardens
along the bus bay, lots of
mulch distributed and lots
of repainted timber tables
in the quadrangle.
Everything is looking much
better.
Congratulations to all the
students and teachers who
were brave enough to
have their hair shaved
today for the World’s
Greatest Shave in support
of the Leukaemia
Foundation. They were well
supported by the rest of the
school community.
This week Year 9 will head
for the city for their Urban
Challenge. It will involve
teams of students, each
with a teacher, who meet

Working Bee -Thank you
The first working bee for this year took place on Saturday, 17th March. We had a very good
turn out on the day with everyone participating actively in various activities around the
school. The enthusiasm of the participants made the event a great success. Planting the
orange trees outside the school office was the key event of the day. The atmosphere was
great with lot of experienced hands and amateurs taking turns to get their hands dirty and
completing the assigned work.
We would like to sincerely thank all the parents, students and staff (Mr.Iaconis, Mrs.Kuksal,
Mr.AJ Papandrea, Mr.Michael Williams) who came and helped make our school look great.
Special thanks to Kevin Lewis from P&C and Mr.Wayne Humphreys for the detail planning and
coordinating all the activities and ensuring that the event was a success.
General Meeting (please note venue change)
The P&C's next General Meeting is on this Tuesday, 27th March at 7.30 pm at the Tiered
Learning Centre. We would like to invite all parents to attend the meeting.
Jyothi Sanker, P&C President
"A very special thank you to Bunnings - Castle Hill for their generous support of our working bee
in the donation of garden soil, sleepers, paint, watering systems and plants. A special mention to
Rachel Scarpin - Activities Organiser who not only coordinated BHHS donation request, but came

SRC Trivia Night
“Blast from the Black and White Past," "Terrors Through The Eras,"
and "Let's Get Physical". These were some of the many teams
that joined us at the SRC Trivia Night on the 14th of March. The
night started off with over 200 students - dressed up as various
icons and fashion styles from a range of decades - rushing
through the doors of the Houliston Centre. Shortly after, the trivia
began! Each of our eight categories posed a series of
questions, some were historical, others were current and a few
were about Baulko. Throughout the night teams were able to
showcase their hidden talents by participating in activities. Singing
talents were revealed, marshmallow contests were had, cups of
Pepsi were chugged and Mr Iaconis' dancing skills were received
with mass applause. The night was concluded by a costume
judging competition and a whole lot of cheering! We hope to see
you here next year at Baulko Trivia Night!

Year 8 Welfare Day
On Friday 2nd of March, Year 8 had their first welfare day for 2018, this
program introduced us to challenges while providing us with tools to
overcome them. During the day, we were given fun, interactive team
building activities where our leadership and teamwork were put to work.
Some of these activities included a puzzle where we had to reach the other
side in 10 steps whilst not making mistakes and Jenga which helped us find
us a suitable environment to concentrate and work in.
These sessions really helped us to enhance our
creative leadership skills and how to
communicate with our team. Before we split off,
as an introduction to the day, the instructors
talked about their time in school and how it took
initiative for people to make a difference and we
didn't necessarily need to have a badge to be a
leader. Another idea we learnt, was our attitude to failure, that
that by no means was a mistake a bad thing but something you have to learn and improve
from. This has helped in motivating us in our studies and attitude to school in general.
In our second session, we learnt about time-management and setting goals by planning our
week and setting aside time for studies and leisure. This helped us plan time for our
assignments and tests but still have time where we could relax.
Overall, welfare day was really helpful for us and gave us important tips that we can take
through for the rest of our schooling and beyond.
On behalf of Year 8, I would like to thank Mr Dunne and Mr Iaconis for preparing and
organising this day, and we definitely took a lot from it and had fun!

Baulko Outreach - National Day of Action Against Bullying
On Friday March 16th, Baulko Outreach played a part in
raising awareness and acknowledgement of the National
Day of Action Against Bullying, a key anti-bullying event
held in schools across Australia. The day began with
Outreach members handing out ‘compliment’ or
‘kindness’ cards to students as they entered school, with
the intention of giving students a constructive start to their
day and reinforcing positive behaviour towards others.
During recess and lunch,
sheets were put up next to the TLC for students to come and
write positive and encouraging messages, and a
photobooth was held where students could take photos
holding anti-bullying signs. Both activities saw a large
number of students taking part, and overall the day was key
in strengthening positive relationships, and having a role in
taking a stand against bullying.

Japanese School Visit – Meiwa High School
On Monday 5th to Saturday 10th March, fifteen students from Meiwa High School in Nagoya,
Japan came to our school. They were hosted by our own students and experienced living
with an Australian family. During the school day, they participated in classes and went on
excursions. On Friday, both the Japanese students and their hosts enjoyed a barbecue
party. This cultural exchange was a great opportunity for students studying the Japanese
language to practise their communicative skills and gain a better understanding of
Japanese culture. Students will also be visiting Meiwa High School in October this year as
part of the Japan Study Tour.
Student testimonial:
“We found this cultural excha nge to be really fun
and challenging, as we had to communicate in a
different language. Of the five short days that they
were here, we were able to take them to our
favourite places to hang out and do fun activities
such as shopping, bowling, karaoke and eating at
iconic Australian restaurants. We enjoyed sharing
information about our typical life in Australia and gave them Australian souvenirs to take
home. In turn, they told us about their life in
Japan and we are now eager to
experience it ourselves when we go to their
school later this year. Hosting Japanese
buddies was a truly unforgettable
experience, and we all agree that we
have made life-long friends. If you have the
opportunity to participate in this program,
we really recommend it!”

The UTS Bachelor of Accounting (Co-op) is open for applications. It is comparable to the UNSW Co-
op program with the exception that it is only offered in Accounting, at least within the Business
School. They have IT and Engineering Co-ops as well, but we will have more information on those
soon.
Here is the link for more information and to apply: https://www.uts.edu.au/future-
students/business/business-courses/undergraduate-programs/bachelor-accounting
Applications are due by June 1st for round 1 entry. Applications can be made afterwards, until
October 19th, but places will be limited at that stage.
Cadetships
PCA Business Cadetships are open for applications. Any students who need help can come and
see me for guidance. Applications will close on Wednesday May 16th, so applications should
come to me by May 9th. This process happens automatically online when students nominate me as
the school contact. I then go about providing some information about the school and students’
performance within the cohort. I will provide constant reminders to Year 12 about this and post it on
their Careers Google Classroom. Students can find my contact details on there and, if they are yet
to join it, the code is: 23rp4g
Here is a link to those applications:
http://www.professionalcadets.com.au/business-cadetships-what-they-are.asp
There will also be Engineering and Technology Cadetships on offer with Cubic Transportation
Systems and Macquarie Group, respectively. They will open on Monday, April 30th and close on
Friday, June 22nd.
Explaining Absences
Regular attendance at school is essential if students are to achieve their educational best social and
psychological potential, and increase their career and life options. Baulkham Hills High School is
required to record explanations for any absences as a way of ensuring that students are absent from
school only when they are sick or have another acceptable reason for missing school.
Parents are required to provide to school written explanation of the absences of their children from
school promptly and within seven (7) days.
