Your Universal Remote requires 4 new AAAalkaline batteries. After inserting the batteries, the LCD screenwill enter a test mode that tests all segments of the LCD screen. This procedure will last for 5 seconds.

To install the batteries:1. Turn the remote over, pull up on the tab and lift the cover off.2. Insert the batteries matching the batteries to the (+) and (-) marks inside the battery case.3. Slide the battery cover back into place.

NOTE: The LCD display will prompt you with a Low Battery icon to signify a low battery condition.The remote will still continue to function at this point. Although code tables for devices will be retained, some reprogramming may be required after batteries are removed.

INDICATOR ICONThe Indicator Icon appears on the LCD display showing that the remote is working.ON•OFFThe ON•OFF key operates the same as your original remote.NOTE: Some RCA, GE and ProScan models require you to press the device key to turn the device on and

the POWER key to turn the device off.TV, VCR1, VCR2, DVD, AUX, AUD, CBL & SATThe TV, VCR1, VCR2, DVD, AUX, AUD, CBL and SAT keys are used to select the device youwant to control.L1, L2 & L3 (LEARNING)The L1, L2 and L3 keys are used to supplement the preprogrammed code library.NOTE: The standard code library provides most of the functions needed, but you can add a small number

Button Description For A udio OperationThe AUDIO keys will only function when the remote is enabled into the AUDIO mode. Simplypush the AUD key to enable all audio functions.

CENTER, FRONT, REAR & TESTAdjust the levels of the center, front and rearspeakers respectively used with LEVEL + /LEVEL - . The TEST key is used when you makespeaker balance adjustments to maximize theperformance of your audio system including thisunit.

AM•FMThe AM•FM allows you to select the AM or FMband on your audio system.

LEVEL + & LEVEL –The LEVEL keys are used when you will makean adjustment on delay time, center speaker output level, rear speaker output level,front speaker level or subwoofer level.

DSP ON-OFFThe DSP key enables the receiver’s DigitalSignal Processing mode.

DSP MODEWhen the DSP mode is enabled, pressing thiskey allows the user to cycle through the various DSP modes.

PROGThe PROG key is used to program your Audiopreset channels.

CD, TAPE, TUNER, TV, VIDEO1 & VIDEO2The CD, TAPE, TUNER, TV, VIDEO1 andVIDEO2 keys are used to directly select thedevice you want to control.

FUNCTIONSelects the different audio input devices. Thenumber keys also select the function labeledbelow the keys when in AUDIO mode.

DELAY-, ON & DELAY+Increases or decreases the delay between the surround and main speakers when the receiveris in surround sound mode.

ON-OFF SURR, MODEON-OFF SURR switches the surround modes on and off. SURR MODE cycles through the receiver’s various surround sound mode settings.

Getting Into Pr ogramming ModeENTERING PROGRAM MODE.

1. Press and hold the CODE SEARCH key for at least 3 seconds until a CODE SET display message is seen on the LCD display window.

2. One menu message will be shown one at a time, for Menu 1 through 13.

In order to access all 13 programming items shown below, special key press cycle must be performed to get into thismode (See page 21).

3. Use UP (▲) key DOWN (▼) key to scroll up or scrolldown the menu messages to have the desiredmessage appeared in the display message window.

4. Press SELECT to select a desired programming mode.

Programming Your De vice With Code Set

1. Manually turn on the device you want to program.

2. Press and hold the CODE SEARCH key until the remote window displays CODE SET.

3. Press the SELECT key to enter into the CODE SET sequence.

4. Use the Device or UP (▲) key DOWN (▼) key to scroll to the desired device.(TV, VCR, TAPE, LDP, DAT, DVD, CD, TUNER, AMP, HOME, MISC, PHONO, CAB, SAT & VIDEO)

5. After the desired device type is selected, find the four-digit code for the corresponding device in the code lists starting at page 9. Enter the four-digit number for the desired setup code.

6. Once the four-digit code has been entered press the SELECT key to accept the desired setup ID code. The LCD display window will show a message displaying SUCCESS or NOT FOUND to verify the ID code.

NOTE: If the message displays NOT FOUND return to step 5 and repeat the steps again.

7. To exit the SETUP CODE, press CLEAR key. EXIT SETUP will be displayed and the remote exits code setup programming.

8. With your device on , press the CH+ (Channel Up). Somedevices may not respond to CH+. For those devices press the ON•OFF key. If the device responds, no further programming is required.

NOTES: • Press the CLEAR key at any time to exit the programming

mode. An EXIT SETUP message will appear confirming that no new codes have been entered.

When using this programming method, the code library starting on page 9 is not required. Theremote control will automatically use the code library stored in your RCU810 remote control.

Programming Your De vice With Man ual Code Sear ch

1. Manually turn on the device you want to program.

2. Press and hold the CODE SEARCH key until the remote window displays CODE SET.

3. Step through the programming menu using theUP (▲) key or DOWN (▼) key for MAN SRCH,then press the SELECT key.

4. Use the Device or UP (▲) key DOWN (▼) key to scroll to the desired device. (TV, VCR, TAPE, LDP, DAT, DVD, CD, TUNER, AMP, HOME, MISC AUD, PHONO, CAB, SAT & VIDEO)

5. After the desired device type is selected, press SELECTkey to step through the code library. The remote must be in a position where a signal can be sent out to your device.

6. Begin the manual search with the DOWN (▼) key to advance to next code from the top of the list. Use UP (▲)key to preview the previous code.

NOTE: The code list is defaulted so you can only scroll through the list once. Once the manual code search completes advancing through all the codes in the remote library, the message END CYCLE will be displayed for 1 secondfollowed by the display message EXIT SETUP for 1 second, and the remote will exit the manual code search.

7. When stepping thr ough the code librar y the remote will automaticall y send out a P ower Off or Channel Up signal to c heck if the code is v alid.

8. When the selected device turns off, the four-digit codeis valid. Press the SELECT key to accept the code and exit the manual search mode. The LCD display window will show a message displaying SUCCESS and automatically EXIT SETUP for its original operation.

9. With your device on , press the CH+ (Channel Up). Somedevices may not respond to CH+. For those devices press the ON•OFF key. If the device responds, no further programming is required.

NOTE • Press the CLEAR key at any time to exit the programming

mode. An EXIT SETUP message will appear confirming that no new codes have been entered.

• If about 30 seconds passes before a key is pressed, the LCDdisplay window will stop transmission to conserve battery life.If this occurs, restart from step 1.

NOTE: The UP (▲) key DOWN (▼) key or any other key pressed will stop the auto search and the remote will go into manual search that begins the next code or the code before from the currently selected code.

6. When stepping thr ough the code librar y the remote will automaticall y send out a P ower Off or Channel Up signal to c heck if the code is v alid.

NOTE: The code list is defaulted so you can only scroll through the list once. Once the auto code search completes advancing through all the codes in the remote library, the message END CYCLE will be displayed for 1 second followed by the display message EXIT SETUP for 1 second, and the remote will exit the auto code search.

Programming For A UX Key Code Set

1. Find the four digit code for the device you wish to program in the code list starting on page 9.

2. Manually turn on the device you want to program and press and release the AUX key on the remote.

You can program an AUX device using any one of the three programming procedures (CODE SET, MAN SRCH or AUTO SRCH). The steps below will guide you with the CODE SET programming method. To program your AUX key using MAN SRCH or AUTOSRCH refer to pages 6 or 7.

3. Press and hold the CODE SEARCH key until theremote window displays CODE SET.

4. Press the SELECT key to enter into the CODE SET sequence.

5. Use the UP (▲) key DOWN (▼) key to scroll to the desired device for your AUX key.(TV, VCR, TAPE, LDP, DAT, DVD, CD, TUNER, AMP, HOME, MISC, PHONO, CAB, SAT & VIDEO)

6. After the desired device type is selected, enter the four-digit code for the corresponding device.

7. Once the four-digit code has been entered press the SELECT key to accept the desired setup ID code. The LCD display window will show a message displaying SUCCESS or NOT FOUND to verify the ID code.

NOTE: If the message displays NOT FOUND return to the code library and try another code.

8. To exit the SETUP CODE, press CLEAR key. EXIT SETUP will be displayed and the remote exits code setup programming.

9. With your device on , press the CH+ (Channel Up). Somedevices may not respond to CH+. For those devices press the ON•OFF key. If the device responds, no further programming is required.

Learning A K ey Sequence

1. Place the RCU810 remote control unit and the other remote control unit so that they face each other. They should not be any more than 2 inches apart.

2. Press and hold the CODE SEARCH key until the remote window displays CODE SET.

3. Step through the programming menu using theUP (▲) key or DOWN (▼) key for IR LEARN ,then press the SELECT key.

4. Choose the desired device key then press the SELECTkey to continue on to the next step.

The remote will display LEARNING message for at least 5 seconds to allow you to capture the IR data.

5. Press a valid key to be learned on the RCU810 remotecontrol in which you will store a new function.

The L1, L2, L3 or other function keys may be used in thisprogramming mode. When using the other function keysit is important to have the other remote in the same device mode as the RCU810.

6. Press and hold the key on the other remote control, which has the function you want to store. Hold the key for at least 3 seconds or until a message displays in the window.

7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 to store more functions.

8. When the selected functions are stored press the CLEAR key to exit the IR LEARN programmingmode. The LCD display window will show a message displaying EXIT SETUP and return to original operation mode.

NOTES:• Every time a code is successfully learned, the display

window will show SUCCESS.

• Press the CLEAR key at any time to exit the programming mode. An EXIT SETUP message will appear confirming thatno new codes have been entered.

• If a key, which cannot learn another function, is pressed, thedisplay window will display an INVALID message.

• The learning capacity is approximately 16 to 25 keys, depending on the function being learned.

The Learning feature is used as a supplement to the standard preprogrammed library. Thestandard code library provides most of the functions needed, but you can add a small number of additional functions of your choice.

1. Press and hold the CODE SEARCH key until the remote window displays CODE SET.

2. Step through the programming menu using theUP (▲) key or DOWN (▼) key for VOL LOCK ,then press the SELECT key.

3. The display message TO MODE will show for you to enter the device to apply the volume lock.

4. Push the device key of your choice to apply theVOL LOCK mode.

5. If the entered device is a valid one, a SUCCESSmessage will be displayed and the remote willautomatically exit the Volume Lock mode with a final message EXIT SETUP.

NOTES:• If any key other than the TV, VCR1, VCR2, CBL, SAT, DVD,

AUD & AUX, devices are selected, an error message INVALIDwill be displayed, and the remote will remain in the Volume unlock programming mode.

This programming mode will lock the volume with devices that have volume control. Thisfunction is different from the MUTE key function. With this programming feature the volumeof your device will be locked at desired level. You may need to experiment with your systemsince manufacturers products do not all work the same way.

The Volume Unlock mode will apply if the Volume Lock has been activated.

Setting-Up A Macr o Key Sequence

1. Press and hold the CODE SEARCH key until the remote window displays CODE SET.

2. Step through the programming menu using theUP (▲) key or DOWN (▼) key for KEY MACRO,then press the SELECT key.

3. Once the SELECT key is pressed a SEL MACKEYmessage will display for you to input a Macro Key(M1, M2, M3).

NOTE: If the entered key is a invalid Macro Key, a displaymessage INVALID will be shown and the remote will stay in Macro programming mode until a valid MacroKey is entered.

4. The display message ENTER SEQ will be shown.You can begin entering the series of keystrokes, up to 15 keys, that you wish to be played back when you press the designated Macro key. After the very first key for the macro sequence is entered, the display message will change to SEL TO END.

NOTE: If more than 15 keys are entered, a message ERRORfollowed by MAX=15 will be shown. The remote will return to SEL MACKEY again for you to setup macro sequence again.

5. Press and hold down the SELECT key for 3 seconds to complete the programming sequence. The SELECT ke ymust be pressed and held do wn f or at least 3 seconds to e xit the sequence .

6. The remote will then display the message SUCCESS, followed by the message EXIT SETUP and return to its normal operation.

NOTES:• Press the CLEAR key at any time to exit the programming

MACRO is a command, which defines a sequence of several operations. Each MACRO key hasone command sequence programmed so you can make as many as 15 keystrokes in a sequence.For Example: When operating one or more devices to power ON/OFF, one macro key enables

you to program series of power ON/OFF commands into one key.

Deleting A Macr o Key Sequence

1. Press and hold the CODE SEARCH key until the remote window displays CODE SET.

2. Step through the programming menu using theUP (▲) key or DOWN (▼) key for KEY MACRO,then press the SELECT key.

3. Once the SELECT key is pressed a SEL MACKEYmessage will display for you to input a Macro Key.

6. When a valid TO MODE device is entered, the remote will automatically process the mode reassignment and a displayed message SUCCESS will be shown. The remote will then EXIT SETUP and return to its normal operation.

• If any other key than a valid device key is entered, a display message INVALID will be shown and the remote will remain in this FROM MODE or TO MODE programming mode until a valid device is entered.

The Mode Mapping will allow you to custom map one device to another device key.

Setting The Min utes For The Sleep Timer

Setting The Cloc k Time

1. Press and hold the CODE SEARCH key until the remote window displays CODE SET.

2. Step through the programming menu using theUP (▲) key or DOWN (▼) key for CLOCK SET,then press the SELECT key.

3. After the SELECT key is entered, the remote will display the hours and minutes clock time.

4. Use the UP (▲) key to modify the hours and the DOWN (▼)key for setting up the minutes.

NOTE: To set the AM or PM appropriately use the UP (▲) key and step through the hours for the correct setting.

5. Once the time is setup to the correct time, push the SELECTkey to complete the setup. The display messages SUCCESSfollowed by EXIT SETUP will be shown, and return to itsnormal operation.

The Clock Time will function automatically after you program the time, following thedirections below.

1. Press and hold the CODE SEARCH key until the remotewindow displays CODE SET.

2. Step through the programming menu for SLEEP SET, then press the SELECT key.

3. The display window will first display 000 as number ofminutes to start the Sleep Timer time setting. You will be allowed to enter the desired minute’s value. Any key otherthan Digit Keys (0-9) entered here will result in an INVALIDmessage display.

NOTE: A valid value of minutes must not be greater than 240 minutes,otherwise an ERROR message displays followed by MAX=240, prompting you to re-input the minute values.

4. Once the desired time for SLEEP SET has been selected, push the SELECT key to complete the Sleep Timer Setting. The Sleep Timer is now setup and the remote will return to itsnormal operation.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Sleep Timer, as setup abo ve, is for setup ONL Y,not to begin the sleep timer action.

5. To start the sleep timer, press the SLEEP key. Once the Sleep Timer has taken its effect it is important to keep the remote aimed at the device to be turned off.

• Pressing any other key will exit the Sleep Timer and the remote will return to its normal operation.

• Pressing the SLEEP key again will reset the Sleep Timer again to itsoriginal preset value.

The Sleep Timer Function will turn off your device automatically after you program the time interval.

Operations Reset

1. Press and hold the CODE SEARCH key until the remote window displays CODE SET.

2. Step through the programming menu using theUP (▲) key or DOWN (▼) key for OPS RESET,then press the SELECT key.

3. Once the SELECT key is entered, the remote will displaya message CLR SETUP and remain displayed until the SELECT key is pressed again.

4. After the SELECT key has been pressed, the remote will perform a complete Operations Reset. Once the Operations Reset is complete the remote will exit the Operations Reset mode and return to its normaloperation.

NOTE:• Press the CLEAR key at any time to exit the programming

mode. An EXIT SETUP message will appear and the remote will return to its normal operation.

The Operations Reset clears all custom setup features not related to device code. It is an easy procedureto reset your remote for customized functions like Learning a key sequence or Macro keys.

Manufacturing ResetThe Manufacturing Reset functions the same as Operations Reset above, with the exceptionthat the remote resets all the programmed features in your remote.

1. Press and hold the CODE SEARCH key until the remote window displays CODE SET.

2. Immediately press and release the REC key. The remote will automatically enter the programming mode where the Manufacturing Reset will be accessed.

3. Step through the programming menu using theUP (▲) key or DOWN (▼) key for MFR RESET,then press the SELECT key.

4. Once the SELECT key is entered, the remote will displaya message CONFIRM and remain displayed until the SELECT key is pressed.

5. After the SELECT key has been pressed, the remotewill perform a complete Operations Reset. Once the Operations Reset is complete the remote will exit the Operations Reset mode and return to its normaloperation.

6. Reprogramming of your device codes are required because the programmed code are reset to the original default device codes.

NOTE:• Press the CLEAR key at any time to exit the programming

mode. An EXIT SETUP message will appear and the remote will return to its normal operation.

Operating A udio Functions

TURNING ON THE RECEIVER OR MINI-SYSTEMPoint the remote control at the receiver and press the AUDIO key. The receiver should turn on.In some cases, it may require pressing the AUDIO key and then the ON•OFF key to turn thesystem on.

SELECTING THE DEVICE INPUTDepending on the features of your receiver or mini-system, the device inputs such as CD orTAPE may be selected. Input selection may be made either by pressing the labeled digit keys,or by pressing FUNCTION key to scroll through the inputs available on your system.

USING THE NUMBER KEYS TO CHANGE AUDIO DEVICESTo select a device, press the number key (1-6) that correspondswith the device you want to operate (CD, TAPE, TUNER, TV,VIDEO1, VIDEO2).

USING THE FUNCTION KEY TO CHANGE AUDIO DEVICESTo select a device, press the FUNCTION key until the input youwant to operate appears on your system.

OPERATING A CD PLAYER OR TAPE DECKUse the PLAY, REW, FWD, RECORD, STOP & PAUSE keys forCD player and tape decks. In some cases, the Preset keys(CH+ / CH-) may work in changing tracks on your CD player.

OPERATING THE AM•FM TUNER1. Press the AUDIO key.2. Press the TUNER key.3. Press the AM•FM key to switch between AM and FM.4. Use the CH+ or CH- keys to move up and down channel

presets.

OPERATING A HOME THEATRE SURROUND SOUND SYSTEMWith RCA receivers, a second press of the TV key should turnthe receiver on.1. Turn the TV on.2. Press the AUDIO key.3. Select the Audio input either by using the labeled number key

of the FUNCTION key.4. Press the VOL+ or VOL- keys to control the volume.

NOTE: The volume keys may operate both TV and receiver volume atthe same time. If this presents a problem, it may be resolved bydisabling the TV speakers by going into the TV menu.

CONTROLLING THE SURROUND SOUND FEATURESThe Surround Sound features may be turned ON/OFF bypressing the SURR ON•OFF key.• Press the SURR MODE key until the desired mode is found.• Press the DELAY+ or DELAY- to achieve the desired delay effect.• Press the DSP ON•OFF key to turn DSP (Digital Signal Processor) ON or OFF.• Press the DSP key until the desired effect is achieved.• Press the TEST key to listen to speaker levels.• Press FRONT, CENTER or REAR keys to select speakers.• Press LEVEL+ or LEVEL- keys to adjust speaker levels.

This remote does not work all brands of audio equipment. See pages 12 and 13 for the Audiocode and brand lists to operate your brand of equipment. You may need to experiment withyour system since manufacturers products do not all work the same way.

Menu FunctionsThe Menu function is used to make changes in the selected settings such as color, channels,timer, etc. The MENU key invokes most major brands like RCA, GE, ProScan, Sony, Magnavox,Philips and Zenith with Menu functions. Each menu mode will vary with brand. You may needto experiment with your system since manufacturers products do not all work the same way.

1. Push the device key on the remote for the desired menu screen.

2. Push the MENU key. This allows you to view the menu of the device chosen.

3. While in Menu mode these keys will function asfollows:

• Navigation Left/Right keys will operate as cursor right and left.

• Navigation Up/Down keys will operate as cursorup and down.

• The SELECT or MENU key will apply the highlighted menu item.

4. Not all functions in competitive models and brands of televisions may be fully supported. You may need to experiment with using the MENU or ENTER keys to make a selection of your choice.

5. To exit the Menu mode and clear the screen, push the device key you have chosen on the remote or theCLEAR key.
