Crouch beats Preston in city election
The Childress Bobcats were not happy with their first playoff appearance since 1997. Saturday, the Bobcats beat Sanford-Fritch 15-5 in bi-district to pick up the first playoff win in baseball for CHS since 1994. The Bobcats will meet Presidio in the area round in a best-of-three series in Midland Friday and Saturday.

BI-DISTRICT CHAMPS
By RYAN MILLSWinning four regional track
championships in a career is incredible. But how does it feel to have 11 regional championships including four this year alone?
Childress Lady Bobcat Vicky Flemons knows. She is one of, if not the most, decorated track athletes in Childress High School his-tory.
Last week at the Region I-2A Track & Field Championships Flemons added to her gold medal col-lection by winning all four events she competed in at the regional track meet.
Flemons shattered the school record (Felisha Jackson, 25.3) by winning the 200 meters in 24.38. She also won regional titles in the 100 meters, long jump and triple jump. Flemons also set school records in the 100 in 11.88 (Hollee Cornish, 12.02) and long jump 19-1 3/4 (Falisha Jackson, 19-0) this year.
“It felt awesome,” Flemons said. “I was so proud of my-self and just to hear them an-nounce my name four times and to get the gold medals was one of the best feelings

of my life.”Flemons is no stranger to
gold. Her resume includes 11 regional and one state cham-pionship. As a freshmen Flemons ran on the regional champion 400 and 800 relays as well as winning the 200 meters. As a sophomore she repeated as part of the 400 and
800 relays as she also did as a junior. Then she added the long jump, triple jump, 100 and 200 to the list last week. She was also the anchor leg for the first girls athletic state championship in school his-tory when she anchored the 2008 Lady Bobcat 800 meter
Vicky Flemons, middle, is one of the most decorated track athletes in Childress High School history. She won all four of her events at the Regional Championships and is now headed to state.

By RYAN MILLSRepresentatives from
WindRose Power LLC were in attendance at the regular meeting of the Childress County Commissioners Monday to update the county on the Childress County Wind One Project.
The group told commissioners that the project will be functional in June 2011. The project is a $200 million endeavor that will place 53 wind turbines south of Childress. Even though the project is one project, it will be completed in two phases. The first phase, the 53 turbines, will be complete and running by June 2011 while the second phase awaits the Cross Texas Transmission line, but will eventually be from 40-80 MW, or 20-40 more windmills.
Childress County now needs to readjust the reinvestment zone to fit the map that the project will follow. There will be a public meeting June 1 to discuss reinvestment zones. Another commissioners
meeting will be held June 8 to vote on the reinvestment zone.
“It’s a huge financial benefit not just for the county but the school district and hospital district,” Mayden said. “Basically this is our oil wells. Some counties are fortunate to have oil and natural gas. We arent that fortunate but we do have wind, so these are our oil wells. And this is just the beginning, once the transmission line is up there could be hundreds of windmills.”
Mayden also said in the next month the county, school and hospital will meet in the to discuss tax abatements.
Once the reinvestment zone is complete and the tax abatements are done, work will begin hopefully by the end of summer according to Mayden.
This project was originated by WRP in August of 2006. In March, Newind LLC acquired 90% of Childress County Wind One.

FEEDING THE HUNGRY
By RYAN MILLSChildress Church of Christ minis-
ter Trey Morgan has found something near and dear to his heart - and he gives his heart to the empty stomachs of the Tegucigalpa, Honduras hungry who live at a landfill. They are also known as the “Dump People.”
Morgan has traveled to the dump a couple times before and is planning an-other trip soon.
Honduras is a very poor nation. The poorest of the poor there live in the dump.
In Morgan’s words: “Can you imag-ine being so poor and so hungry that you’d take up residence at your local dump and dig through the disgusting trash to find yourself something to eat? Can you imagine feeding your chil-dren scraps of molded, rotting garbage, just so they can live? Can you imagine
your children picking the little bites of chicken off a chicken bone they found in the garbage? All these are regular oc-currences at the dump in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. The Tegucigalpa dump is a dark and horrible place to live, yet many people do.”
On May 5, 2009, Morgan started his “Dump Day” fund-raising project and raised over $12,500. This year, he did
