// System ArchitectureThe CPAT FLEX System architecture is composed of the following:

• Vehicle-based modules;

• Headend-based equipment;

• CPAT Web-based application service.

The sophisticated CPAT service is designed to provide all the monitoring functions and reports required to efficiently manage your leakage/ingress control program and vehicle fleet.

The CPAT FLEX vehicle-based modules and headend-based equipment are selected according to the operator’s monitoring requirement, which includes digital/analog leakage, cable ingress and automatic vehicle location (AVL). See Table 1 for the dif-ferent monitoring packages available.

The application will also allow you to create and dispatch work orders using our repair ticketing function. Our CPAT application service can be interfaced to any third party workforce management or ticketing application.

Our CPAT Web-based service will locate and map monitored events on a digital map-ping system with optimized coverage for the operator’s geographical area. You can access your results over the Internet using a standard Web browser enabled device.

// Digital Leakage MonitoringWith the CPAT FLEX system you can combine different modules and equipment to build the ultimate cable monitoring package to perform digital/analog cable lea-kage, ingress and AVL monitoring functions. Because of its modularity, the CPAT FLEX monitoring platform will avoid technological obsolescence when new technologies are made available.

CPAT FLEX is the most comprehensive broadband cable network leakage and ingress monitoring platform.The CPAT FLEX system has evolved into a modular and scalable solution enabling operators to customize their plant monitoring requirements according to their needs. With its complete product offering, the CPAT FLEX system can automatically detect cable leakage, ingress and vehicle position in all types of networks, all-digital, hybrid or strictly analog plants. The CPAT FLEX is designed as a fully automatic mobile system that monitors the network while your technicians are performing their daily work routine.

The CPAT FLEX digital leakage monitoring system is composed of a headend-based signal generator (DSG1), portable vehicle-based receiver (DRV3) and autonomous event recorder (ARD4). The DSG1 is a dual-band signal generator that inserts an ultra-low-level digital signal between QAMs. The portable DRV3 digital leakage detection meter is designed as a find-and-fix tool and as a monitoring receiver when used as part of the CPAT FLEX system. Using the DRV3 is the ideal solution for operators requi-ring immediate technician intervention when a cable leak is detected.

Digital Signal Generator (DSG1)The dual-band signal generator utilizes 2 frequency agile digital carriers. The first band operates from 118-140 MHz to satisfy government cable leakage regulatory re-quirements, and the second band operates from 572-960 MHz to cover cable leakage affecting operation of the LTE cellular band. Each low-level digital signal is inserted between QAMs without causing adjacent QAM interference, MER or BER degrada-tion.

See our DSG1/DRV3 brochure for further information.

Portable Leakage Meter (DRV3) Our portable DRV3 frequency-agile meter detects and measures leakage events in all-digital networks. The DRV3 can be connected to an autonomous event recorder (ARD4) module as part of the CPAT FLEX monitoring system and used as a standalone find-and-fix meter for digital leak repairs.

With its dual-band receiver and screen display, operators can monitor one or both frequency bands (Mid/LTE) simultaneously in real-time mode.

The DRV3 with its vehicle-based docking station is the ideal solution for operators requiring immediate technician intervention when a specific RF level digital leak is detected. The DRV3 requires a digital signal generator (DSG1) to detect digital signal leakage.

See our DSG1/DRV3 brochure for further information.

// Analog Leakage MonitoringThe CPAT FLEX analog leakage monitoring system is composed of a vehicle-based receiver (DRV1 or DRV2) and an autonomous event recorder (ARD4). The DRV1 is a fixed vehicle receiver, which automatically detects leaks while your technicians are completing their daily work routine.

Our portable DRV2 leakage detection meter is designed as a find-and-fix tool that can also be used as a monitoring receiver when used as part of the CPAT FLEX system. Using the DRV2 is the ideal solution for operators requiring immediate technician intervention when a cable leak is detected.

Leakage Receiver (DRV1)The DRV1 frequency-agile leakage detection receiver creates a powerful leakage monitoring platform requiring no user intervention. Our DRV1 automatically detects, measures and positions the leakage events. The receiver can detect tagged or ampli-tude modulated (AM) carriers. Using the DRV1 module is the ideal ‘hands-off’ solution for operators opting for two distinct operational processes for leakage monitoring and leakage repairs. The DRV1 requires an autonomous event recorder (ARD4) to operate.

See our DRV1 brochure for further information.

Portable Leakage Meter (DRV2)Our portable DRV2 frequency-agile leakage detection meter is for operators requi-ring a leakage monitoring receiver in their vehicle and a portable find-and-fix meter for immediate repair intervention. The DRV2 can detect tagged or amplitude modu-lated (AM) carriers. The DRV2 can be connected to an autonomous event recorder (ARD4) for automated monitoring operation. The DRV2 meter can also be used as a standalone solution for leakage repairs.

See our DRV2 brochure for further information.

// Ingress MonitoringThe CPAT FLEX ingress monitoring system is composed of a headend-based ingress receiver (IRX1), vehicle-based RF transmitter module (ITX1), autonomous event re-corder (ARD4) and Web-based RIM application. The IRX1 is a receiver that detects,

measures and localizes ingress events on a continuous basis. The ITX1 is a radio that continuously transmits a low power digital ingress test signal in the cable upstream band.

Ingress Transmitter Module (ITX1)The ITX1 module consists of a RF digital transmitter radio operated by the ARD4 mo-dule for ingress signal monitoring purposes. The ITX1 transmits a special low power digital signal on a continuous basis in the 5-42 MHz band, while technicians are dri-ving out the plant during their daily work routine. The ingress test signal is specifically generated and configured to avoid any interference with the operator’s return band signals such as DOCSIS carriers. The ITX1 requires an autonomous event recorder (ARD4) and an ingress monitoring receiver (IRX1) to detect ingress events.

See our ITX1 brochure for further information.

Ingress Receiver (IRX1)When a vehicle is driven into an ingress prone area, the transmitted signal from the ITX1 module enters the coaxial plant and travels up to the HE/Hub location for detec-tion by the IRX1 ingress receiver.

As soon as the test signal is detected at the input of the IRX1, its data is decoded. The vehicle ID, event time stamp and RF level are then recorded. The ingress event information is uploaded to the CPAT Web server database through a secure Internet connection.

With its localization accuracy of ± 2.5 meters, the CPAT ingress monitoring function drastically reduces ingress localization efforts. The high capacity processing power of the IRX1 means there is almost no limit on the number of vehicles that can be equip-ped with an ITX1 transmitter module.

See our IRX1 brochure for further information.

Web-based RIM ApplicationThe mobile Web-based RIM application is used on a Web-enabled portable device such as a cellular phone to display the incoming RF level of a detected ingress event for a specific ITX1 transmitter, to help field technicians locate the ingress source.

// System Operation Vehicle Data Recording and UploadThe Autonomous Recording Device module (ARD4) begins monitoring the plant as soon as the technician’s vehicle starts up. As the truck is driven, the ARD4 performs all of its monitoring functions.

When cellular communication is used, the collected data (leakage events and AVL information) are automatically transferred in real time to the centralized CPAT Web server site.

When WiFi communication is used, a WiFi hot spot receiver is installed at a location to which technicians often return (i.e. business office, warehouse, etc.). When a vehi-cle passes within range of the WiFi router, the captured data from the monitoring driveout are automatically transferred to the CPAT server.

Operating the ARD4 requires no intervention from the technicians. Data can be stored in the ARD4 for a period of up to 18 weeks.

Headend Data Recording and UploadAll ingress events are detected and recorded in real time by the IRX1 headend-based receiver. As soon as the test carrier signal is detected at the input of the IRX1, its data are decoded. The IRX1 stores and sends upstream decoded data to the CPAT server on a recurring basis through the 10/100 BaseT Ethernet connection. The IRX1 uploads the detected ingress RF level in real time to our Web-based RIM application for ingress repair purposes.

CPAT Application Server Data ManagementUploaded data are processed in real time by the CPAT application server to provide immediate feedback to operators. The CPAT data integration process manages and filters detected events to avoid repair work order duplication. The CPAT server keeps a complete history of events, from detection through to closing status.

The administrative function manages user access levels and authorization. Autho-rized users log into the CPAT application and have real time access for viewing, repor-ting and analyzing data captured by the ARD4 module (AVL information and leakage events) or IRX1 receiver (ingress events).
