CHILDREN’S DRAWING CURRICULUM

All kindergarten and elementary-aged students are required to take beginner and intermediate drawing classes as a prerequisite to some other classes. Skills learned in these foundation classes are essential to the Artsplace program. Our children’s drawing curriculum is as follows:

• Beginner: Includes contour line, flat color, texture, mirror image, negative space and volume drawing. Media are Flair pens and markers.

• Intermediate: Reinforces beginner concepts with more detailed projects including some shading and volume drawing. (Prerequisite: Beginner)

• Advanced: Includes perspective and dimensional drawing, and introduces different media. (Prerequisite: Intermediate)

Exploring the Color Wheel (Adult) Students will learn about color, high and low key, chroma and value struc-ture through exercises and the creation of a saturation chart in this im-portant workshop for all level students. During the second session stu-dents will paint a shape based abstract design to incorporate the new color knowledge gained. Make a Snowball (Grades 3–Adult)Create a batch of snowballs for an inside fight. You won’t get cold making these and they won’t melt either! Amazingly fun to squeeze and assemble. Treasure Boxes (Teen/Adult) (3 days) A treasure box is a gift of love and a hand-me-down forever. Make a trea-sure box with a lightly colored wood burned outside that houses a satin lined inside to cradle your special pieces. Bring a wooden box with a lid and a picture of your choice. We will provide the lining and trim or you may bring your own.

• Tuition is payable in full at the time of registration.• Non-resident fees for classes (820 prefix) are $10 per class title,

for workshops (821 prefix) are $5 per workshop title • If a class is canceled, postponed or rescheduled you will be

notified at least 3 days before the original start date of the class. Should a class be canceled, your fees will be refunded.

• For withdrawals after registration, consideration will only be given for a medical or family emergency upon written request, less a $15 administration fee.

• There are no make-ups, refunds, or credits for students missing a regularly scheduled class. Classes not held due to inclement weather or instructor absence will be rescheduled.

• Classes run for 7 weeks except where noted in schedule.

• Artsplace accepts cash, checks made out to “CPFA”, Mastercard, Visa, Discover and AmEx credit cards (see registration form).

• Unless otherwise noted, all standard supplies are included in the price of Artsplace classes/workshops.
