Immediately following the

CPRIT Foundation Roundtable

Meeting and Dinner will be

CPRIT’s inaugural scientific

conference. This 2-day event is

poised to be the premier can-

cer conference in the country.

The program is led by Chief

Scientific Officer Dr. Alfred

Gilman, Chief Prevention Offi-

cer Dr. Becky Garcia, and Chief

Commercialization Officer Mr.

Jerry Cobbs, and supported by

a Program Committee of 24

renowned cancer specialists.

The focus, as stated in the title,

is “innovation”, and the con-

tent of each session will be

fresh and not the same presen-

tations that have been heard at

every oncology conference this

year.

Additionally, this event provides

the opportunity for CPRIT-funded

researchers to share their projects

with everyone during the poster

sessions.

It is also CPRIT’s goal to have the

Innovations conference guide fu-

ture rounds of funding. Since these

initial recipients have set the bar

high, by sharing their winning ideas,

other potential applicants can learn

how to take their research ideas to

the next level.

Commercialization will also be an

important component of the pro-

gram. Some of the nation’s top

researchers will provide their in-

sight in panel discussions regard-

ing new medicine research for the

consumers.

Early registration for the confer-

ence is scheduled to open in June

2010 and will be accessible via the

new CPRIT Foundation website.

Sponsorship opportunities for the

conference, as well as the Round-

table and Dinner, will also be avail-

able. Brochures are going to be

distributed in the coming weeks

with details of each level of spon-

sorship.

Innovations in Cancer Prevention

board discussions.

Wilson is Senior Vice President of

Public Affairs for Luminant. He is a
