“Fulfilling our promises to the men and women who served” is not just a catchphrase - it is the fundamental responsibility of our organization.
We understand the needs of today’s veterans, because we are an organization of veterans helping veterans. We have a proven track record of success, helping hundreds of thousands of veterans each year obtain needed benefits and services.
Who We Are & What We Do?
Made up exclusively of men and women injured or ill in our nation’s defense, the DAV is dedicated to one, single purpose — fulfilling our promises to the men and women who served. This mission is carried forward by:
Providing free, professional assistance to veterans and their families in obtaining benefits and services earned through military service and provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and other agencies of government;
Providing outreach concerning its program services to the American people generally, and to disabled veterans and their families specifically;
Representing the interests of disabled veterans, their families, their widowed spouses and their orphans before Congress, the White House and the Judicial Branch, as well as state and local government;
Extending DAV’s mission of hope into the communities where these veterans and their families live through a network of state-level Departments and local Chapters; and
Providing a structure through which injured and ill veterans can express their compassion for their fellow veterans through a variety of volunteer programs.

Transportation
In 1922, Henry T. Ford donated 50 Model-T Fords to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) for transporting World War I veterans.
What was needed then, is still needed today in Craven County--reliable transportation and volunteer drivers.
We have two 12- passengers vans to transport Veterans to and from their VA medical appointments.
One of our DAV vans must be taken out of commission due to high mileage.
We need the community’s support in helping us raise the money for our new DAV van that services the Craven County to include Jones and Pamlico.
