MISSOURI DEXTER BREEDERS ASSOCIATION YOUTH HEIFER CHAIN PROGRAM

The purpose of this program is to aid youth in getting started in the Dexter Cattle

business, by awarding heifer calves to program participants on the basis of merit, future

goals and the ability to care for the animal. Any Missouri youth, ages 8 – 15 as of

January 1st, 2013, who is a 4-H or FFA member, or for coming high school freshmen

who will be joining FFA, with a letter from your FFA advisor, may apply.

Homeschooled youth, ages 8 – 15 as of January 1st, 2013, are also eligible by meeting the additional criteria outlined

below. Previous winners of the MDBA youth heifer chain are ineligible. Deadline to enter is April 20, 2013. All

applications will be reviewed by an independent selection committee.

Each program participant will own their heifer jointly with the MDBA until completion of the program, at which time

the participant will receive full ownership of the heifer and her future offspring.

Each program participant will be responsible for raising the calf, arranging for her to be bred (AI or naturally) with

help from the MDBA Youth Program committee, provide an annual report about their heifer, and submit record book at

the fall MDBA meeting in October for two years.

Applications are available at http://www.missouridexter.com/mdbawebsite_005.htm.

Garden Stones

You Will Need:

Model Magic (one tennis ball size amount per child)

Flat gem stones and shiny beads (can be found at discount stores

Here’s How:

1. Shape model magic into a ball and flatten it to a half inch shape (circle, square, etc.)

2. Place gem stones and beads on the shape and let it dry overnight. The model magic dries hard so the stone will withstand outdoor weather.

3. Once dry, place the garden stone in a garden or yard.
