General InformationGeneral Information Members: 27 organisations (mostly working in child

protection areas and based in Bangkok)

Some active members having a good relationship with government and appointed in a number of advisory boards

Occasionally convene the meetings (one general CSO meeting in last 12 months) but rather on specific-issue meetings

Lack of Key Person (Secretariat) to sustain the momentum

Currently communicate through Group Mail (Gmail)

No official group name – potentially “CRC Coalition Thailand”

Next meeting on 12-13 December 2013, co-organised by a couple of member organisations

No any training on “Alternative report on OPSC and OPAC” provided to CSO members

Representatives from World Vision, Childline and Plan had a small meeting to agree on a few main issues to drive Coalition and in align with Government direction such as setting up Child Protection Indicators and strengthening Community Based Child Protection Mechanism

ECPAT called for organisations working specifically on OPSC to review and give comments on the government workplan to respond to UN concluding observations (COB)

Some representatives from Coalition attended a consultative meeting to provide comments on Government workplan to COB organised by Ministry of Social Development and Human Security

UNICEF hosted a semi-annual meeting for Child Protection in Emergency Sub-cluster to update the progress of organisation members and how to collaborate amongst ourselves. Its aims and coverages are more than CPiE but also Child Protection in general.

“Annual” Coalition meeting to agree on the tone of Coalition and identify potential issues for advocacy. The recent meeting received 36 members from 25 organizations; while only 9 organisations attended the last year meeting as well.

Ways ForwardWays Forward

Rotating the host(s) for Coalition meeting and combining with normal event/meeting

To expand the members widely and deeply – more members from existing networks and from other Child right related issues but not closely involved (such as OPAC)

To communicate more often amongst the members through “group mail” driving by “Secretariat”

Identify main indicators to monitor government – with collaboration with Human Right Committee (a government body)

Identify Capacity building issues for organisation members

ChallengesChallenges

To determine the best structure for the coalition to efficiently and comprehensively address the large number of issues under CRC and OPs

To incorporate all parallel working group based on specific issues such as Children on the Move and Child Trafficking to become CSO members

To have the same messages and direction to push on the same topic

To sustain same members and representatives to CSO meeting

To have “Permanent and full-time” Secretariat to run and organise administrative issues for this CSO

Limited source of funding to support some organisation based in other provinces to attend the actual meeting in Bangkok

Language barriers for some useful materials such as OPSC and OPAC alternative report guidelines
