Everyone! Men, women, and children light the menorah. Sometimes only one menorah per household is lit.

What is lit?

A menorah/chanukiah with 9 branches, one of which is taller than the others. It is called a shamash.

Olive oil, other oils, or candles.

When do we light?

On the eight days of chanukah. The candles are lit when it gets

dark outside. The candles should burn for at least

30 minutes.

Where & why do we light?

Candles are lit on Chanukah to publicize the miracle of Chanukah. Therefore, candles are lit in a place where they are visible to others: window sills, doorways, outside, etc.

From left to right, every night starting with the newest candle.
