Creating a Blackboard Test from a Microsoft Word Document Using Respondus

This tutorial assumes you have already installed the Respondus Campus-Wide software onto your Windows PC. If you do not have the program installed, please see the related tutorial. 1. Launch Respondus 4.0 Campus-Wide from your Windows PC.

2. From the Respondus homepage, select Import Questions.

3. Import Questions Dialog Box a. Select the appropriate file type. b. Browse your computer to find the file that you created using The

Standard Format for Importing – Respondus 4 guidance document. c. Give your new Respondus file a name. d. Click the Preview button.

4. Preview Results a. Check that the number of questions in the Preview Results matches the

number of items on your test. b. Check box below the questions for warnings. c. Click the Finish button.

5. Click the OK button.

6. Click on the Preview + Publish tab near the top of the Respondus page.

7. Click Publish on the left side of the screen.

8. Click Publish Wizard.

9. From the Blackboard Server dropdown menu, select Add New Server.

This is a one-time only step. If you have it previously, you can skip to selecting your previously added server.

10. Make sure the Yes, check for preconfigured server settings option is selected. Then, click the Next button.

11. Enter a name for your server and click the Next button.

12. Click the OK button.

13. When the Blackboard Authentication window opens, login to Blackboard. Then, click the Close After Login button in the top right corner.

14. Click the OK button, again.

15. Click the Next button.

16. Click the Finish button.

17. Back in the Publish Wizard window, click the Next button.

18. You will now have to repeat the Blackboard Authentication again, by clicking the OK button, logging into Blackboard, clicking the Close After Login button, and clicking the OK button again (as shown in the steps above).

19. Publish Wizard Last Steps a. Choose the course you would like to add the test to from the dropdown

menu b. Select whether you are creating an Exam or a Pool. Choose Create new

Exam if you are unsure. c. Uncheck all three additional options boxes. d. Click the Next button.

20. Once the Publish Wizard shows that the upload was successful, click the Finish button.

Your test is now ready for deployment in your Blackboard course. When you go to add a test to your course, the test that you just uploaded will be available as an option to deploy. An additional tutorial is available for this process, if needed.
