• To research the sort of work people in different career areas do.

• To investigate what you would need to do in order to pursue this career pathway.

Things to remember

• You are not setting an idea of career in stone• You are very likely to change job frequently in

the future. The ‘job for life’ is no longer the common outcome for people

• This is more about the ‘process’ than the ‘outcome’. I want you to know how to research and think about careers – no matter which one it is!

Step 1

• Look at the results of your skills and interests tests that you have completed over the last couple of sessions1. Are there any careers mentioned that you don’t know

much about? – Find out what they are – they may be the perfect thing for you!

2. Are there any careers that you know about and have already got an interest in?

3. If there are careers there that you don’t really think match you – look into them, why do you think they got linked to you?

Step 2• You are now going to start to produce a presentation that you will do

to the class next time.

1. Pick a possible career that you might be interested in pursuing then:

– Slide 1 – title of job

– Slide 2 – Why you selected this job

– Slide 3 – What sort of work does this job entail?

– Slide 4 – How does the work in this job match your skill set?

– Slide 5 – What qualifications/experiences do you need in order to pursue this career?

– Slide 6 – What post-16 courses will help you (IB? A-Levels? Non-academic routes?)

– Slide 7 – What is your next step?
