propert! in or'er to offer logi#tical #upport to N56# an' 9niver#itie# for re#earch, management an' monitoring of bio'iver#it! an' local activitie#(

The 0G1s have agreed with the 0ational !ar=s "dministration and with the !rovince ofChaco to wor= together in the field offering environmental education, training and

monitoring in order to =eep the area safe from poachers, logging and cattle#

The government of Chaco, through !1<9" !rograma de "reas uralesD has started to

offer training and financing to neighbors and aboriginal communities for them to profit

from the new economic and cultural opportunities that arise from conservation and tourism#

Communit! an' lan' i##ue# #urroun'ing a 4i'eli'a'

There are three types of situations regarding land property and livelihood in the

impenetrable region surrounding 'a Fidelidad#(# “Erban dwellers”# There are municipalities and (/ small towns within an area of (

millon hectares along the corridors with an estimated population of >/#/// persons#

2.   Criollos  people who are a mix of aboriginal with 9uropean immigrantsD with noland# They live in very small townships or “para.es” of no more than >/ families

each, surrounding 'a Fidelidad !ara.es 'a "rmonHa, a.o -ondo, "lto "legre, 'as

Flores# They are candidates for training and financial assistance to wor= inecotourism and activities related to conservation#

. 6mall farmers with land ownership mostly cattle and goatsD, approximately ?/,///

people, counting criollos and wichi  and toba aboriginalD# The aboriginal own land

in the form of aboriginal reserves, of >/#///ha, %/#///ha and (/#///ha and(#//ha# The criollos have private titles, and their property usually have ?// to

are approximately >/ private owners#

Area# of future concern after the initial lan' i# acuire' i# protecting the buffer

;one boun'arie# for the future national park a Cattle gra;ing in#i'e the park if

the fence# are not maintaine', b #urvival poaching an' illegal fi#hing, c illegal

tre#pa## on propert! These need to be offset through a .oint effort of 0G1s and

government +inisterio de !roducci4n de la !rovincia del ChacoD in order to create

.obs for the people with no land, who can become guides, guards, give services to thetourist, and produce handcraft souvenirs, honey and vegetables for local mar=ets# In the

case of the small ranchers who own land, they need to improve their practices and learn

to care for their animals and land#

6ur plan for the future

• 9nlarge the future national par= annexing the remaining %/,/// hectares

• Acuire an' protect the 100,000 hectare# on the 4ormo#a #i'e /right no- un'er

• 8or= in the corridors, for connecting the existing provincial and aboriginal reserves

eserva +egue, eserva Grande, eserva Fuerte 9speranJa and 'oro -ablador2

with province and national government and via G9F funding and other donations#

6ur #trateg! an' vi#ion for the 4uture Park

The main purpose of the future par= is the conservation of the ecosystems dry forest and

grasslandsD that are representative of the Chaco region, and to protect the gallery forest ofTeuco and eme.ito rivers, the grasslands and wetlands that are in very good conditions in

'a Fidelidad property and preserve a special biodiversity# 8e intend to promote restoration

and preservation of threatened species# They are indicators of the ecosystemKs 3uality suchas 'eo onca AaguarD, !riodontes maximus Giant "rmadilloD, Catagonus wagneri Chacoan

!eccaryD, +yrmecophaga tridactyla Giant "nt 9aterD, Chrysocyon brachyurus +aned

The Future !ar= must set a management plan and focus on promoting it as a new eco2traveldestination and creating new opportunities for photography safaris near de limits of the

 properties#

The Future !ar= will serve as a shop window for the cultural and natural products of 9l

Impenetrable# 8e propose the creation of an exhibition and interpretation center of the

natural and cultural products of 9l Impenetrable, to conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of the !ar=#

"fter the land is ac3uired to form the new national par=, the group of local 0G1@s will

start fundraising to build the infrastructure necessary to protect the boundaries of thenational par= currently envisioned to be approximately $ entrances, see +ap (D#

the area ue(t to e'ro'riation

The architecture and signaling of the !ar= has to be developed, respecting local design and

esthetics, ensuring high 3uality, uniformity and a low maintenance cost#

In the future we aim to increase the area for conservation, adding %/,/// hectares on the

east border beside Colonia !astorilD with a similar conservation scheme to that of the 0ational !ar=, reaching use agreements with neighbors so as to increase the population of

endangered species, especially of mammals# 8e intend to wor= with the criollo community

on the perimeter of the property and with the leaders of the "boriginal eserves so as to

create a biological corridor for 9l Impenetrable and for the  Interfluvio area see map %D soas to assure a larger extension of land for the :aguaret;, !uma, Tapir, 1so -ormiguero and

!ecarH as indicator speciesD#

Finally, we aim to wor= together with the !rovince of Formosa, to promote conservation on

the northern river edge of the future par= and try to annex the remaining (//,/// hectares

on that side, which are part of the former 9stancia 'a Fidelidad
