CREATE YOUR OWN

WILD THING

• Go to a computer

• Log onto the school intranet

• Open up a new Powerpoint

• Create a new slide

ACTIVITY 1 TITLE PAGE

• Step 1 – On slide 1 – Create a Title Page – My Wild Thing

• Step 2 – Go to the tab at the top “Insert” – find Wordart – choose the style you like and type in heading – My Wild Thing.

• Step 3 – Move the title around until you are happy with where it is on the slide.

• Step 4 – Go to the Tab “Design” – choose the background you would like.

• On this slide using Wordart - put in a number of words to describe your Wild Thing.

ACTIVITY 2 Drafting your own Wild Thing

• Step 1 – Think about how you can create a Wild Thing using shapes

• Step 2 – Do a quick draft on a piece of paper

HINTS – Think about the shapes you can use to create

Legs arms body teeth ears nose fangs tail

wings mouth scales feathers fur horns

ACTIVITY 3 Naming and Creating your own Wild Thing

• Step 1 – Go to Slide 2

• Step 2 – Go to the tab at the top “Insert” – find Wordart – choose the style you like and type in the name of your Wild Thing

• Step 3 – Move the name around until you are happy with where it is on the slide

• Step 4 – Go to the Tab “Insert” – choose the “Shapes” you want and start designing your Wild Thing.

• Step 5 – Repeat Step 4 until you are happy with your Wild Thing.

• Step 6 - select every shape and right click - select grouping - select "group "

• Right click on the grouped shape and click save as - save your wild thing as a jpeg file into your student folder - you will now be able to use it whenever you need it.

HINTS • You can resize the shapes by grabbing the corner and holding it down and

dragging to the size you like.

• You can also move the shapes around by highlighting the shape and dragging it to where you want it on the slide.

ACTIVITY 4 Describe your Wild Thing

Create a new slide - paste your Wild Thing into the middle of the slide - around the wild thing describe the various features of your Wild Thing eg sharp teeth, long horns, feathery skin, wings etc.

ACTIVITY 5 Creating a Story about your Wild Thing

• Create a new slide - Paste your Wild thing into the lefthand corner at the top - put the name of your wild thing on the righthand side at the top.

• On a blank piece of paper / or your English book - create a story about your Wild Thing - remember to use lots of words to describe your Wild thing, write about what it eats, where does it live, what can it do, does it have a family.

• After you have finished your draft have a teacher check for punctuation, spelling etc.

• Create a text box - now type your story into your slide.

ACTIVITY 6 Creating a Story about your Wild Thing – Putting it into pictures

• Create a new slide - using the internet find a picture you can use in the background of your story.

• Paste your Wild Thing onto the slide and create a few slides to describe what happens in your story.
