AMBULANCE VISITS KINDERGARTEN
Last Monday while Mrs Vermeulen was on Kindergarten there was a surprise visit from paramedic and parent of CHPS students, Damien Koivu. We had a wonderful impromptu lesson on emergency care, how to call for help in an emergency and what the inside of an ambulance looks like. Kindergarten students were very fortunate to have such a worthwhile learning experience. Thanks to Mr Koivu our favourite paramedic and the NSW Ambulance service.

STAFF RETRAIN IN LIFE-SAVING TECHNIQUES
Last Wednesday evening our staff went through our annual CPR and Anaphylaxis training. Here we we revised resuscitation techniques, survival management and how to administer lifesaving treatment to ill and injured children. Many thanks go to Kim Rayner from Surf Life Saving Australia for teaching the teachers.
ETHICS WAITING LISTS
There is currently a waiting list for Stage 1 and Stage 3 Ethics classes. Students on the waiting list will be notified with notes sent home this week. Any parents, grandparents or community members who would like to know more about volunteering as an Ethics teacher please phone Kate on 0438123914 or visit primaryethics.com to apply directly online.
THANK YOU FROM THE LIBRARY
A big thank you goes to the kind people who sent along pillowslips and cloth bags to the library. Your generosity means children who do not have a library bag can now borrow our fantastic books. If anyone else has some spare pillowcases or cloth bags that they can spare please send them along to the library so we can lend them to students who don't have a library bag. Putting books in a cloth bag helps protect them on the journey to and from school. Please check the timetable for the days your child borrows and pack a library bag or cloth bag. Library class borrowing days are Tuesday and Wednesday so if you pack a bag Monday night in your child's school bag they will be very happy!! The Library timetable for 2019 is as follows:
Tuesday Wednesday KL 3/4W 1F 5/6L
1/2G 5/6M 3/4D
BOOK CLUB
Book Club orders have been ordered and we expect delivery later this week. If you missed the cut off date then look in your brochure for how to purchase using the online LOOP system. It will be available until Wednesday.
SCHOOL CONTRIBUTION FEE
All families are asked to contribute to the cost of supplying students with all the learning materials provided by the school. The cost of resources used every day in the classrooms, including books, pencils, pens, paper, art supplies, craft supplies, printer ink, readers etc…. is ever increasing. The P&C has endorsed contribution amount at: $49 per student $120 for 3 students or more This school contribution can be made at the school office at any time or using the POP system on the website (under the Payment tab). Your payment will greatly assist the school in off-setting the cost of providing equitable new and quality resources and materials for all students in our school. MEET THE TEACHERS BARBECUE WEDNESDAY 27TH FEBRUARY
Next Wednesday 27th February, each of our classes will be holding a “Meet the teachers” session in their classrooms. This is an opportunity to see your child’s classroom, get to know some of the routines of the class and ask general questions about school life. Following this we will be hosting a barbecue for families where we can get to know more about our families in a relaxed setting over a sausage sandwich and can of drink.

P&C AGM THURSDAY 7TH MARCH @ 5.30PM
Next Thursday 7th March is our P&C’s Annual General Meeting. However, this meeting will also serve the purpose of an official farewell for our President, Secretary and Treasurer. Riitta Kytola, Jackie Terrasson and Julio Garcia all have been on the executive of the P&C for the past 3 years. They have given countless hours and have built a considerable skills set that has supported our school in many different ways. Please join us at this meeting to thank these wonderful members of our school family and wish them well as they, hopefully, take their talents and energies to their prospective high school P&Cs.
FRIDAY SPORTS TO BEGIN AT THE COUNTRY CLUB ON FRIDAY 8T H MARCH
Mr Lobb has been working with the staff at the Crescent Head Country Club to develop a multi-sports program for our students. As a result, our students in Years 3-6 will be taking part in a six-week program where they have opportunities to learn golf, tennis and lawn bowls with teachers and specially trained staff from the Crescent Head Country Club. This trial has been made possible using our Sports in Schools grant and an extremely generous discount from the Crescent Head Country Club.
CHILD PROTECTION WORKSHOPS
We are delighted to have staff from the YWCA working with us to deliver parts of the mandatory child protection syllabus. Teachers have begun teaching the first of 4 lessons that cover the topics sense of self, power in relationships, recognising abuse and protective strategies. These lessons that are catered to each different stage of learning are aligned with the NESA PDHPE syllabus and will be done in class groups with our teachers. There is a flyer coming home today with more details. Feel free to contact the school for additional information.
SCRIPTURE/ETHICS ENROLMENT
Notes have been sent home asking for your preferences around the scripture and ethics classes this year. The enrolment process has changed with this preference no longer being a part of the process and a new policy requiring this preference to be made each year. Please fill this note in and return it to the school as soon as possible so that we can make up those class groups. BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE
Expressions of interest are being called for from families interested in a proposed new out of school hours care service (OOSH) which will offer an AM (7-8:30) and PM (3-6) service. If you are interested in utilising this service please contact Tarrik Morssi on 0416507720.
TRANSITIONING TO SCHOOL STREAM
CHPS has transitioned from the Skoolbag app to the new Schoolstream app as an additional communication tool for our parents and community. We are excited to transition into this new platform. This again is a free app and we encourage all our families to add this to their devices to be kept informed of important updates and reminders. You can find Schoolstream via the App Store or Google Play by searching for Schoolstream and typing in Crescent Head Public School when prompted. We will increase our use of this app from Week 3 as we continue to personalise this to our school. We appreciate your patience during this transition.

NAMES ON UNIFORMS
We would like to remind parents and carers to please label all uniforms including hats with children’s names. Items can quickly be returned to children when found rather than sit in lost property. This is particularly important in winter with jackets as children take them off after a cold start and they quickly become misplaced.
NSW BUS SAFETY WEEK – 18TH TO 24TH FEBRUARY
Over 1 million students in NSW travel to & from school each day, many by bus. In the last five years, three children were tragically killed after alighting from a bus and being struck by another vehicle. NSW Bus Safety Week runs from 18-24 February 2019 to highlight the importance of bus-related safety issues for all road users. It is part of the Be Bus Aware campaign which aims to improve awareness for how all road users can keep safe on & around buses.
Tips for keeping safe around buses: o Adults – always hold your child’s hand
when crossing the road. Meet your child at the school or the bus stop – NEVER wait on the opposite site of the road and call them across. Wait until the bus has gone then use a safe place to cross the road. Supervise your child walking to & from the bus & crossing the road until they are at least 10.
• Drivers – slow down to 40km/h when the bus lights are flashing.
BOOK FOR SALE
Our Crescent Head, the book written by our students is selling quickly. Don’t forget to get yourselves and your loved ones a copy of this book. They are for sale for $25 through our front office.
