Safety Awareness Tour (p.5)

Safety Awareness Quiz (p.9)

Safety Training 1

At Crew, we’ve taken extensive measures to help ensure that you have a safe work environment. We feel that you have a right to expect a safe workplace. But, as in all work places, there are potential hazards you need to be aware of and precautions you need to take to avoid injury. The purpose of this module of your training is to educate you on these potential hazards, and the important safety principles that will help ensure your safety. Your safety training will consist of three sections: Section One - Basic Safety Principles In this section your manager will discuss some basic safety principles. The manager will discuss situations that may occur and discuss the proper procedures for each. Section Two- Safety Awareness Tour In this section, your manager will give you a tour of the car wash, pointing out potential safety hazards and safety equipment. You will be instructed on how to safely work in the car wash environment. Section Three- HMIS Labeling System Lastly, your manager will explain the GHS/HAZCOM labeling system. This is the system we use to inform you of the potential hazards of the different detergents and chemicals we use at Crew. Once your manager has completed this training you will be asked to do two things:

1) Sign and date the last page of this section, verifying that this material was covered thoroughly and that you understand it.

2) Take the “Crew Safety Quiz”, covering all of the information and safety principles discussed in this section. You must

score 90% or better before you can continue your training and start working. It’s very important that you fully understand these safety principles and guidelines. If there is anything that you are not clear about, or if you have safety-related questions that are not covered, this is your opportunity to ask.

Introduction

Safety Training 2

In Case of Injury -

Report to a member of the management team immediately – regardless of severity.

If you feel that it’s necessary, you may request medical treatment even if your manager(s) doesn’t suggest it.

Any exposure to chemicals / detergents / cleaning products must be reported immediately.

In The Event of Customer Injury -

Determine the nature of the injury.

Encourage the customer not to move.

Immediately notify a member of the management team.

If the customer is complaining of back pain, neck pain, or is having trouble walking, have the customer remain where he/she is, unless it is an unsafe location.

In the event of a serious injury (one where the customer is in extreme pain, can’t move, is bleeding seriously, etc.) call 911.

In the Event of Fire -

If you smell or see smoke anywhere on our property, notify a member of the management team immediately.

If the building or wash tunnel fills with smoke, evacuate the building and call 911.

For any fire that has spread to the point that it can’t be safely put out with a fire extinguisher, call 911.

If a customer’s car catches fire, call 911.

In Case of Robbery –

Your ONLY responsibility is insuring your safety and that of your fellow associates.

Offer NO resistance.

Cooperate fully with the robber.

DON’T do or say anything that will add to the tension of the situation.

Make a mental note of a description of the robber, including height, weight, race, clothing, etc.

Don’t disclose to anyone the amount of money that was taken. Tell anyone who asks that your manager or an owner will provide that information.

Immediately call 911.

Notify an owner or Area Director.

Robbery Prevention -

Never disclose the amount of money in your apron to anyone.

Never leave your cash drawer open and unattended. Make sure your drawer always closes securely each time.

Never leave cash lying out in the open.

“Thin out” your apron regularly, especially large bills. Keep the amount of money in your apron to a bare minimum.

Basic Safety Principles

Safety Training 3

Never make change for $50 bills and larger. Tell the customer you don’t have enough cash, and ask if he/she has any smaller bills. If not, have the customer wait outside while you break the bill in your cash drawer inside the building.

NEVER make change more than once for a customer, in addition to change for the carwash the customer is paying for. There are “quick change artists” who will confuse you by having you make change for them a number of times. They will ALWAYS win in this situation. If a customer insists, you must get a manager to make the change for them.

If you see someone who is hanging around the car wash that makes you feel uncomfortable or makes you fear for your safety, call the police.

Hazardous Conditions -

Constantly be on the look out for potential hazards.

Report any hazardous conditions to a member of the management team immediately.

If you are responsible for creating a hazardous condition (i.e. spills, etc.) then you are responsible for making sure it gets taken care of.

If you are unsure of the proper way to clean up a spill, especially if it involves chemicals, ask your manager for assistance.

Never use any product for clean-up that has not been approved for that use.

Safety Equipment -

Your manager will show you where the safety equipment is located. You are expected to use this equipment when necessary, and as instructed.

A first time violation or any repeat violation will result in a written warning for anyone who fails to use proper safety equipment when needed. Repeat offences could result in termination.

Proper protective safety equipment should always be worn when changing detergents, when working on equipment, and when using cleaning products (i.e. doing ‘clean-up’).

You will be trained on the HAZCOM/GHS safety system (Guidelines for working safely around chemicals)

You are expected to follow these guidelines at all times.

Motorist Assistance -

Team Members will not go into a roadway or leave Crew Carwash property to assist motorists or customers.

Team Members will not leave the property to provide a ride home to customers.

Only Management Team Members will change tires, jump batteries, or provide other mechanical assistance to motorist or customers on our lot, if staffing allows, wearing appropriate PPE.

We do assist them in finding some assistance, allow them to use the phone, make them comfortable in our office or customer service area.

Safety Training 4

On this tour, you will be shown the location of each of the following items, and your manager will explain the related safety precautions. Pay close attention. You will be tested on your knowledge of this important safety information. You are expected to follow these guidelines at all times.

ALWAYS let someone know when you are entering the wash tunnel.

Emergency Stop Buttons -

Learn where the emergency stop buttons are located.

The red button stops the conveyor when you push it in, and restarts the conveyor when you pull it back out.

Whoever stops the conveyor must be the one who starts it!
