2.0 AppliancesAppliances are a collection of servers (virtual instances) that host application software components. These servers collectively represent a fully functioning hosted environment for the application software. Appliances typically have two servers a Virtual Appliance (VA) server and a Client server.

The VA runs on Linux, while the client typically runs on Windows. It is possible to run the appliance partially by shutting down one server and leaving the other running. The two servers work together to provide a typical Siebel or OBIEE environment. The client is used to run Windows software, which allows changes to be made to the VA by developers.

An appliance type determines the purpose of the appliance, and is mainly distinguished by the type of application software components installed on the appliance servers. Choose between an OBI or Seibel appliance, both meta data warehouses.

· Siebel Appliance—an appliance whose servers are setup with Siebel CRM.· OBIEE Appliance—an appliance whose servers are setup with OBIEE.

Each appliance is assigned to only one group, which will manage it. Each group has one owner who will decide the permissions.

In your Appliances page you can see all the appliances created, including the fields: Name, Type, Owner, Group, and Status (whether running or stopped). From this page you can edit, monitor, and run all your appliances.

NOTE: You can create a new appliance or create one from a backup of an existing appliance.

Create a New Appliance

Navigate to the top right side of the page and select the Create icon above the search box.

Field Comments

Name Name your appliance.

Group Choose the group the appliance will belong in. This group will operate the appliance.

Owner Choose the owner of the group. The owner can set and change the permissions of the appliance.

Size Choose the size. The size corresponds to the size of the servers

5

(instances) that are created in the appliance. They will have more CPU/Memory as it goes larger. These instance sizes are defined by Amazon EC2 at the following: http://aws.amazon.com/ec2/instance-types/

Note: The “API name” for each instance will correspond to the ones you see in our console.

Region Choose the region where you want to use the appliance.

Flavor Choose your flavor. The flavor indicates what version of the software is installed on the appliance. For Siebel flavors typically are base8.1.1.x or base8.2.2.x, and for OBIEE flavors are base10g and base11g.

Client Choose if it is a Client appliance or not.

Client Size

Choose the size of the Client appliance.

NOTE: Creating a new appliance from a backup is useful because if you need to do a bunch of configurations on an appliance to make it fit a particular purpose then you can store those changes under a name. Then give other users access to the work so they don’t have to start from scratch if they want to reuse or repurpose your work.

Create an Appliance from a Backup

Navigate to the top right side of the page and select the Create from backup icon above the search box.

Field Comments

Name Name your appliance.

Group Choose the group the appliance will belong in. This group will operate the appliance.

Owner Choose the owner of the group. The owner can set and change the permissions of the appliance.

Appliance Choose the appliance you want to create the backup from.

At anytime you can edit your Virtual Appliance and the permissions the appliance operates with.

Edit Virtual Appliance (VA)

Navigate to the edit column and select the pencil icon .

· You can change the owner and group. · There can be only one owner per group and appliance.

Edit Policies and Permissions

Navigate to the edit column and select the console icon .Here you can edit the policies and the permissions for the Owner, Group, and Everyone (all other viewers).

· Permissions are a security setting that controls whether or not a user or group can perform a given operation (such as start, stop, backup, restore, etc.) to an appliance or appliance type.

Ø You can set the permissions by selecting Yes or No. Ø You can set separate permissions for Owners, Groups, and Everyone fields.

· Policies are the settings, which is a collection of parameters that determine

appliance behavior. There are three policies:

Ø Mail Settings§ Who receives email§ The email auto/manual settings§ The Global Time Setting (in hours)

Ø Time Settings§ Enter the time of day you want to start and stop the appliance § Enable time tracking§ Set the days of the week you want the appliance to run§ Set the budget (the total amount of hours the appliance is allowed to

run)

Ø Backup Settings § Set the backup time§ Automatically repeat a backup: daily, weekly, or monthly § Set when to purge (erase) backups

You can view and monitor the details of an appliance.

View Appliance Details

Navigate to the name column and select the icon or appliance name to view the details for that appliance. Their are nine pages in your details view.

Field Comments

Status § Create an Instance, which is a server on an appliance

in your permissions field.

Note: If you click to terminate an appliance it will ask you to enter the name of the appliance.

Elastic IP's

When you start and stop appliances, their instances (servers) will have a new DNS and a new IP address each time you start the appliance. You can choose to assign a static IP address (and therefore a static DNS name, because it is based on the IP address) to one or all of the Instances in a particular appliance. You can do this by selecting the paper clip icon next to each appliance Instance.

Note: that Elastic IPs are maintained separately for each AWS region, which can be selected in the Region drop-down box on the top right corner.

The Elastic IP page allows you to view all currently assigned IP addresses to appliances, and any IP addresses that are allocated, but not assigned. From this global view you can:

Field Comments

Allocate and associate an IP address

Allocate and associate a new IP address to a specific Instance. This shows you a list of all the running appliances; you can choose VA or Client to allocate to an Instance within that appliance.

Disassociate anIP address

Disassociate an allocated IP address from a specific Instance. This makes the IP address free to be associated to a different Instance.

Associate a freeIP address

Associate a free IP address to an Instance (by selecting the Associate button next to the IP address). It will change from available to assigned, and the instance will show up next to the IP address, along with its status (running or stopped).

Release anIP address

Release an IP address, which is allocated, but not associated to anything.

Mark anIP address

Mark an IP address as Important. This is done by selecting the lock icon next to the IP address.

Note: The Disassociate button will be replaced by an “Important” button in case you accidentally try to select it.

Navigate to theappliance info view

If an IP address is assigned to an Instance, you can select the Instance from this view to navigate to the appliance info view.

View of a Running Appliance

Below (Figure 9) you can see two instances (servers), one running and one stopped. Since most appliances have two instances (servers) one can run while the other is stopped.

· When running you can allocate a new IP address by selecting the paperclip icon .

· You can also see what's available and unavailable to the running appliance.
