MESSAGE FROM ANN
‘Everything written in the Scriptures was written to teach us, in order that we
might have hope through the patience and encouragement which the Scriptures
give us’ Romans 15:4
‘Changes happen all the time in life.’ Those words were said to me two days
before I became Moderator of the Presbytery of the West. Some changes we
embrace easily and some become a bit of a challenge. Being Moderator is a
challenge for me. I am humbled and honored to be chosen by my fellow
presbytery members but this role does not come naturally to me so your prayers
and support are very much appreciated.
The ‘Congregational Board’ has come through changes in the past month and
we rejoice that new Board Members will join us at our meeting. The shape of
the Board has now changed and it will be a blessing for Board members and
Kirk Session Elders to work together once more.
The ‘Fun Day’ brought challenges and changes to our church. The numbers of
families that poured into our ground were amazing and the blessings just poured
out all day. This is the future God has planned for us and it will bring many
changes in the life of the church, the weekly activities and exploring new ways
of mid-week worship alongside our Sunday Worship. Some of it we will
embrace with ease and some it will take time to get used to.
The Building Project is moving slowly in the background (Andy Ellison will
give us an update in the newsletter next month) and this will bring internal and
external changes to our grounds. We will be faced with decisions, both difficult
and easy, and we will be challenged in our faith to work forward with God
sometimes into places that we can’t see clearly.
I don’t know what the next year as Moderator of Presbytery will bring, and
things get stressful for me if I dwell on it too much (Chocolate helps to calm me
down!) but I do know that whatever I face God will be there for me.
We may be facing new challenges in our life at this time, and some will be fun.
There may be situations that may not be comfortable for us or issues to be
worked out. Remember God is there for us all, supporting, strengthening and
enabling. He will never let us down. We also have the word of God to turn to
and receive the words and encouragement we need to help us.
May God Bless us all as we go forward together as a family in His love.
Blessings

SOCIAL PROGRAMME
“Normal” social events were postponed during the month of September, as we all
concentrated our efforts on the Community Fun Day on Saturday 17th September. What a
day we had, as God blessed us in so many ways, from great weather to seeing our grounds
packed with children and others from our local community.
The events of the day are covered in detail elsewhere in the newsletter, but as you know, any
proceeds raised on the day were to be split between Alzheimer Scotland and our Building
Fund, and I am absolutely delighted to say that the total amount of funds raised was £1,300.
Praise be to God.
Social events resume again in October, and on Friday 14th we will be setting off for Eastwood
Theatre to enjoy the Theatre Guild’s production of “Sunshine on Leith”. Tickets have
already been ordered for this event, but if your plans have changed and you would now like
to come along, then please let me know and I’ll see what I can sort out.
The next day, on Saturday 15th October, we will again be running our monthly Community
Cafe and Kids Zone event from 11am to 2pm. This event was advertised on the leaflets that
went out to the local community and so please pray that we will see another good turnout on
the day. It would be really appreciated if there was also a good turnout from our own
members. Why not come along for a spot of lunch – good value guaranteed!
Finally, some early notice of our St Andrew’s Night celebrations, which take place on
Tuesday 29th November, when we will be entertained by Musicality – the concert party of the
Theatre Guild. Tickets priced at £5 will be available shortly, so keep an ear out for details of
that and put the date in your diary now.
Details of all the events for the rest of the year are set out below and we look forward to
seeing you at some, if not all, of these events over the months to come.
Many thanks
Anne Bryce
