Fri. 27 Sep Last day of Term 3

Welcome to Term 3 I extend to each of our newly enrolled students and every one of our staff members, and returning students, a very warm welcome to Term 3. I hope each of you are as pleased as I am to be returning to school refreshed and renewed after the winter break.

Term 3 is a term of excitement and anticipation as we wait for the warmer weather of spring and actively participate in stimulating and challenging programs and events which lead to improved learning outcomes.

We said goodbye, for now, to Mrs Jade Bell at the end of last term while she enjoys her maternity leave and we welcome back Mr Greg Atfield as relieving Assistant Principal and Year 5/6 Kookaburra teacher. Mr Atfield has been working in the school supporting our younger students, with fantastic success, with intensive one to one reading assistance. He will continue this on a reduced basis while enjoying being back on class with Yr 5/6 Kookaburra.

Mr Atfield brings over 40 years of experience to this role and is very excited to be back on class as well as sharing his knowledge and expertise in an executive role. There are no other staffing changes for Term 3.

Pyjama Day On the last day of Term 2, Year 6 students held a ‘Pyjama Day’ fundraiser for Year 6 Camp. The day was a huge success with both students and staff dressed to impress in their finest flannelette, slippers, dressing gowns and onesies.

Some very cosy Kindergarten kids!

Eve, Flo, Mackenzie and Harry keep warm in their onesies.

Sophie, Mrs Bell and Abigail colour co-ordinated their

pyjamas!

Students in Stage 2 show off their diverse sleeping attire.

‘Beary cute’ students Phoebe, Poppy and Joe.

Blue and green must never be seen…unless worn by these

handsome gentlemen!

Year 5 fashionistas in the latest bedtime trends!

Congratulations Mr & Mrs Bell! We are thrilled to announce the safe arrival of Maeve Lee Bell who entered the world early on Monday morning. Mrs Bell and baby Maeve are doing very well with daddy Oscar feeling over the moon with their bundle of joy.

We wish them all the best as they enjoy this very special time with their families and begin their journey as new parents.

Gorgeous little Maeve Lee Bell arrived a little earlier than

expected, look at that beautiful hair!

Mrs Bell and Mr Bell are absolutely thrilled with the arrival of

baby Maeve. We can’t wait until we get to meet her!

Term 3 Class Captains Elected

Elections to decide on who would fill the role of class captain have been conducted, with the following students elected by their peers to this leadership position.

Year 1/2 Emu ~ Gemma Chandler & Sam Frost

Year 2 Platypus ~ Charli Kelly & Sam Hunt

Year 1/2 Kangaroo ~ Levi Webster & Lachlan Nolan

Year 3/4 Echidna ~ Evelyn Dark & Angus Barber

Year 3/4 Koala ~ Kayla McDonald & Alex Anderson

Year 5/6 Dingo ~ Eve Roberts, Stirling Inder & Alec

Year 5/6 Kookaburra ~ Emma Robertson & Charles Butler

Year 5/6 Magpie ~ Darcie Osborne & Ben Lang

Congratulations class captains!

Family members and friends, please join us at 12.15pm next Friday 2

nd August when class captains will be presented with

their badges at the assembly.

Flying Start Flying Start sessions for Term 3 will begin again next

Monday 29th

July and continue until the final session on Monday 23

rd September. We are looking forward to our

wonderful preschool students joining us again to continue their transition to ‘big school’. Sessions begin at 9.30am and conclude at 11.00am.

Parent/Teacher Interviews It was great to see so many of our families take advantage of the chance to meet with their child’s class teacher at the parent/teacher interview sessions. I hope you found the exchange of information that occurs at parent/teacher interviews as valuable as the class teachers did.

It is extremely important, that both parent and teacher have a strong positive relationship and a clear understanding of directions being followed, if a strong and positive, partnership with the child’s education as the central focus is to be established.

If you would like to meet with your child’s teacher but missed the opportunity to attend the parent/teacher interviews, please feel free to contact the school on 48 321 213 to arrange an alternative appointment date and time.

I encourage your active participation in the home/school education partnership as it is of paramount importance to your child’s success at school.

Jeans for Genes Day Friday 2

nd August is Jeans for Genes Day. Students are

invited to wear their favourite jeans to school and bring with them a coin donation to help raise funds for children fighting genetic diseases and other serious medical conditions. Let’s get behind this wonderful charity and help make a difference.

Book Fair

Book Fair celebrations will commence next week with the Scholastic Book Fair. Students will be invited to visit the library on Wednesday 31

st July with their class teachers to

browse the books and fill out a wish list. We invite all parents and carers, who wish to purchase the books, to the school library on Thursday 1

st August from

8.30am to 3.30pm.

Happy Reading!

Flu season is here! Influenza is spread from person-to-person through the coughing or sneezing of infected people. Remind your child about these good hygiene practices to minimise the spread of infection:

Anyone who is sick with influenza symptoms should stay home until their symptoms are gone.

Cover the nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. Throw the tissue in the garbage bin after use.

Wash hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.

Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.

If you or your child develops influenza-like illness, seek the advice of your family doctor as you would with any other illness.

Kindergarten News Topics News in Kindergarten will recommence in Week 2 this term with a roster and topic for each week. The aim of news is to foster speaking and listening skills. It is an activity that can be socially rewarding and academically advantageous for young children while also solidifying the home-school connection. See the table below for the day your child has news. If your

child is unable to bring something in to share, they are more

than welcome just to speak about the topic. Please do not

bring items of great sentimental or monetary value to school.

Enrolling Now For 2020

If you know of families who will have children starting school at Crookwell Public in 2020 please encourage them to return their Application for Enrolment Form promptly. This will allow staffing arrangements for next year to be firmly in place by the commencement of the new academic year.

Families new to the school community are invited to contact the school on 48 321 213 to arrange an interview with Mr Whittington, meet the staff, tour the school and receive a Crookwell Public School Information package.

Thank you to the families who have already completed and submitted their child’s application to enrol.

Home and Emergency Contact Details The colder weather has now set in and the chance of having to evacuate the school due to heavy snow or extreme weather increases. It is important that we have current contact details in case of an emergency. If you have recently changed your mobile phone number, changed address or any other emergency contact details please contact the office and have these details updated as soon as possible.

Synthetic Turf installed The long wait is over and the synthetic turf is in and ready for use. This once dusty, dry, muddy at times, area is now a space that we can utilise all year round. The students have loved using it for sport and play time this week.

The students have loved having the opportunity to play on the new synthetic turf on Benson’s Green.
