This week we are skipping -
with and without a rope.
Last week we discussed
that we are different but
the same. Just like these
eggs, we look different but
on the inside we are just
the same.
Ian taught us how to take a
cutting from a plant, repot
some aloe vera and plant a
seed.

Dear Parents and Friends of Crossmaglen Public School,
Science - Life cycles
Sometimes I just marvel at the opportunities our students
receive. Kate Legge knew that we were studying lifecycles and
in response, a newly hatched chicken arrived. Thank you to
Tahya who rushed it home and introduced the chick to Pepper -
a very broody hen at the Marshall’s.
So every day last week, Pepper and her chick have arrived at
the school. I am not game to turn up without it!
The whole school has taken delight in learning how to handle the
baby chick, how to pick it up and ensure it is watched carefully.
Our students really show empathy and compassion - taking
turns to hold and ‘babysit’ the chick during recess and lunch.
The students love to watch Pepper teaching her baby how to
chase food, scratch in the leaf litter and to do as she is told!
Spark Session
Last Wednesday we held our very first Spark Session. This involved Miss Blayney and myself
team teaching a targeted writing lesson. As every student is on their individual program, the
lesson permitted an intensive master class for the whole school.
We decided to use the topic of chickens - as we were all inspired by the delivery of Pepper
and her chick, Lucy.
Hockey Day
Our Hockey Day scheduled for Wednesday 3rd April has been cancelled due to insufficient
enrolments.
Mrs Dutton
Mrs Dutton has been unwell and unable to read with our students for the past two weeks. The
students signed a card and sent their best wishes for a speedy recovery. Mrs Dutton loved
her new orange indoor plant….. she was very touched.
We are going Blue for World Autism Day
Autism is a complex, lifelong developmental disability that affects a person's ability to
communicate, interact with others and cope in everyday situations. So on April 2 we are going
blue and celebrating Autism. We aim to gain a greater understanding, acceptance and inclusion
of people on the autism spectrum.
Big Vege crunch
Last year Crossmaglen joined the 50,260 students who crunched a vegetable at exactly 10am
on Thursday 1st March 2018. This year we hope more schools join the crunch to break the
record. So on Thursday 4th April at 10am - guess what we are doing?
Swimming
We have two more swimming sessions for school sport - Thursday 2 May and Thursday 9 May.
Please ensure that you have paid your swimming fees for the term as the school will receive
the whole term invoice this week.
As you are aware, the lesson your child receives is one hour long and your fee is $4.00 per
week. The school pays the additional $6.00 per lesson, per child using a Sporting School grant.
School Works As you would have noticed, we now have a yellow cottage and a newly painted grey cottage at
the school. The grey cottage also received a new roof, downpipes and stair well. The next
project is the upgrade (well installation) of our WiFi throughout the school - this will
commence on Monday 8 April.
Kids in the Kitchen
The students cook their own lunch and eat by 1pm. Please ensure you pack an item for Crunch
and Sip and also something for recess every Friday.
Easter Raffle
Every student has received their book
of tickets for the raffle - a gardening
hamper. Please support our P&C by
selling the tickets and return to the
school by Wed 10 April.
End of term Assembly and the
Easter Hat Parade
Everyone is welcome to attend the end
of term assembly and then the Easter
Hat Parade. All the Easter hats will be
made at school prior to the parade.
We will commence at 2.00pm on Wednesday 10th April.
Have a happy week.

Seed Germination
Our students have learnt about seed germination and the best conditions to ensure growth. Each student planted their seed and then selected a location throughout the school. It is their responsibility to care for, water and nurture the seedling. Thanks to Sheridan who had captured Avalon’s seedling.
