Wonderful Start to 2019
Week 1 has certainly set the tone for a
tremendous year. Our students arrived on
Wednesday ready to commence work and
engage in their learning. All the staff
commented on the settled feel of the school -
and a parent emailed me to say it just felt like
‘pure joy’.
Some of our returning students have missing
teeth, new haircuts and everyone is so much
taller!! I am not too sure what you fed your
children over the holidays - but everyone is now
trying to catch Miss Blayney.
We are fortunate to welcome 11 new students
and their families into our school community.
This growth included 6 kindergartens - this is
the largest number of kindergartens since
2006.

This week the students will
develop their teamwork and
coordination skills with the
use of our very large
parachute.
At Crossmaglen, the
language of bucket filling is
synonymous with being kind
and thoughtful.
Students learnt about
yeast. They looked at this
single celled organism under
a microscope, conducted an
experiment and even
cooked with it.
From the Principal __________________________
Welcome to the beginning of the 2019 school year. I hope that you all enjoyed the holidays
with both family and friends.
Thank you to the staff of Crossmaglen Public School for a well prepared start to this
academic year. The smile on our student’s faces is a true testament to the passion they bring
to this profession.
Crossmaglen Improvements
The improvement works at Crossmaglen was quite busy over the holidays and due to some
delays, the works will continue into this term. Thank you to the staff and other contractors
who have worked so hard to ensure the best for the students in our care.
● To ensure office access for all, our new ramp was constructed. The baullastrade has
been sent away for galvanising and should be available in another 4 weeks. The students
told me that the wooden frame looks just like a cubby house.
● Ky was very excited to have some time to commence the Office revamp. Thank you
again to Mr Paul Humphries, Principal of Toormina High School and Tracey Elvy, our
SAM from the previous two years, for organising the donation of the office desk.
Thank you to Chris at Zevo, a local company, who made and placed the sticker for us.
● Removal of a concrete slab that was raising from the force of tree roots.
● The cleaning of the tennis court. Who would have
thought that the court was green!
● The replacement and painting of the eaves in The
Yellow Cottage.
● New furniture for the classrooms.
● New irrigation system - thank you to Ian.
● Over $1500.00 worth of brand new home readers have been purchased. We are just
waiting on the delivery of the contact before they can be accessioned and distributed.
● Thank you to Mr and Mrs Charlesworth - for lending me their possum cage so I could
keep Honey safe whilst the builders worked on the eaves.
● A new roof and then eaves for the main classroom.
● Thank you to Mrs Reynolds and Rom for
reinvigorating the library. Old books were
donated and new books were purchased ( I may
have got a little excited purchasing all of the
new books).
Mrs Reynolds
Next week Mrs Reynolds will be coming in to work on
some art pieces with the students. She will also be
detailing the changes that she made to the new and improved library.
School Swimming
School swimming commences this Thursday. Students are to arrive at
school in their normal school uniform and then will be provided with the
time to change into their swimming gear at school.
Students are reminded to bring their costume, towel, goggles and a bag
for their wet clothing. A grocery chiller bag is an ideal bag to use as it
is waterproof, is large enough to accommodate the wet clothing and
towel and easy to independently pack.
Please ensure that your permission note is sent into the school as soon
as possible.
Afternoon collection and morning arrivals
Please leave 1 metre of space between your front bumper and the school fence. Students are
taught to move to their car along the fence line. It is too dangerous for our students to move
behind any vehicles - especially when the vehicles are only able to reverse when leaving.
At the end of the day, students will wait outside The Yellow Cottage, until the bus has
departed. Once the bus departs, the students are permitted to leave the school grounds.
Afternoon Tea
Please come along at 2.30pm on Wednesday 6th February to meet our students and their
families. It is also the opportunity to meet the staff and put faces to all those stories we
hope are getting shared at home.
Swimming Carnival
The small school swimming carnival will be held on Monday 11th February at Bellingen Pool. This
day is for students who turn 8 or over this year. More information will be sent home this
week.
Aged Care Performance
We have been invited to attend to sing at the Coffs Harbour Masonic Village Aged Care
Facility on Wednesday 13th February. This is to help celebrate Seniors Week. More
information will be sent home this week.
We do have a facebook page - Crossmaglen Public School.
