urement System (LEMS) is

considered to be the most

accurate

sions testing equipment

manufactured by a US

based research institution,

Aprovecho Research Cen‐

tre (ARC). It measures the

total emissions during

stove combustion. Emis‐

sion components such as

carbon monoxide (CO), car‐

Improved Cook Stove (ICS) with Carbon Finance (ICF) Program

stove supervisors (one male, one

female) representing the LPOs. The

mobilization,

and

role

of

differentstakeholders and promoters.

Developing Promoters at Punna

CRT/N with support from SNV Nepal

has

been

implementing

“Improved

Cook Stove (ICS) Program with Car‐

bon Finance (ICF)” in seven districts

of far western development region of

Nepal aiming to promote 150,000 ICS

during the period from August 2012

to June 2017.

Under this project, with technical

back up of CRT/N, Rural Develop‐

ment Service Centre (RDSC) Doti as a

Regional Partner Organization (RPO)

organized a four‐day “Local Promot‐

ers Training ” from 22‐25 March,

2013” at Punna, Doti. The objective

of the training was to build the ca‐

pacity of ICS Promoters in stove con‐

struction, operation and repair main‐

tenance for effective implementation

of the

ICF

Programme.

The training was facilitated by Mr.

SNV Nepal, Mr. Keshab Raj Joshi, Re‐

Making VDC IAP Free

Kaleshwor, a high altitude VDC in

Southern Lalitpur was declared In‐

door Air Pollution Free VDC on 23rd

March, 2013, standing to be the first

VDC in Lalitpur to be declared IAP

Free, and fourth in BESP programme

districts facilitated by CRT/N. The VDC

has 322 households, 292 of which

were using ICS or other smokeless

cooking technologies like Biogas, LPG

etc. at the time of declaration. ICS

construction is still underway in the

VDC to cover the remaining house‐

holds as well.

Bhujel, beneficiaries of Mahadevst‐

han explained about benefits from

hydram in Pipalbhanjyang. He further

explained the system is very cheap

and easy to maintain by local commu‐

nities. Mr. Lumin Kumar Shrestha,

Director of CRT/N gave a vote of

thanks and answered the queries of

the participants. Participants were

curious on implementation modality,

prospect of technology and express

their gratitude for appropriate tech‐

nology to solve water scarcity.

District Level Stakeholder Meeting

A one‐day “District level project com‐

pletion stakeholder meeting” was

held in Dhading district on 30th

April

2013 with participation of 29 partici‐

pants from different organizations .

The main objective of the meeting

was to share its activities, experiences

and output by project stakeholders

Environment Unit (DEEU); Renewable

World, CRT/N; Rural Mutual Develop‐

ment (RMD) as local partner organiza‐

tion and

beneficiaries

the

The meeting initiated with welcoming

Dhading by Mr. Sher Bahadur Bhan‐

dari, Chairperson, RMD for implemen‐

tation of the project.

were made to these organizations.

During the visits, collaborative ap‐

proaches of testing service and re‐

searches were discussed opening a

way to co‐work for clean cooking

solutions for all in coming days. Such

visits are also planned in the coming

days. The acknowledged organiza‐

tions are Centre for Energy and Envi‐

ronment, Nepal (CEE‐N), The Re‐

search Centre for Applied Science

and Technology (RECAST) and De‐

partment of Mechanical Engineering,

The Improved Water Mill (IWM) Pro‐

gramme conducted training on Gen‐

der and Social Inclusion in Dhulikhel,

Kavre on 5‐6 March 2013. Altogether

11 female members of Ghatta Own‐

ers Associations (GOAs) and Service

Centres (SCs) participated from Kavre,

Dolakha,

Sindhupalchowk,

Dhading,

Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Sindhuli dis‐

tricts. The Alternative Energy Promo‐

tion Centre (AEPC) has been execut‐

ing IWM Programme since 2011 un‐

der National Rural and Renewable

Energy Programme (NRREP). CRT/N is

the Technical Service Provider of the

programme.

The major objective of the training

was

to

sensitize

SC

and

GOA

mem‐

bers on GESI concerns and its impor‐

tance in IWM Programme. The spe‐

cific objectives were to equip the par‐

ticipants with skills to understand

GESI and to provide participants with

knowledge on practical tools to en‐

sure that GESI differences are ad‐

dressed in IWM Programme. The

Rural Village Water Resources Man‐

agement Project, Phase II (RVWRMP

II) is

a bilateral

project

between

Gov

‐

ernment of Nepal and Government

of Finland. RVWRMP I started in Oc‐

tober 2006 and the second phase

RVWRMP II started immediately af ‐

ter the first phase in September

2010.

The overall objective of RVWRMP is

institutionalized capacity at local and

re‐gional

levels

to

sustain

and

con

‐

tinuously improve enhanced quality

of life, better environmental condi‐

tions and increased opportunities in

rural livelihoods in the project area.

With the help of head office based in

Dhangadi, Liaison Office at Katha‐

National Association of Community Electricity Users Nepal (NACEUN)

CRT/N’s Local Partner

in 47 districts. 241 electric coopera‐

tives from across 47districts are affili‐

ated with NACEUN and it has to‐

wards a growing trend.

NACEUN works as a united platform

and empowers community electricity

user's organizations, creates aware‐

ness, supports business activities and

generates resources for rural electri‐

fication development in Nepal.

NACEUN has experience in commu‐

nity mobilization, capacity building

activities, awareness campaigns, re‐

search studies, promotion of renew‐

able energy and other institutional

development support activities with

respect to community rural electrifi‐

cation in Nepal. It has fourteen dis‐

trict chapters. Each district chapter

consists of at least five community

rural electrification entities in one

particular district.

NACEUN is working as one of the

Local Partner Organization (LPO) of

CRT/N for Improving Gender‐

Inclusive Access to Clean and Renew‐

able Energy in Bhutan, Nepal and Sri

Lanka.

Electricity Users Nepal (NACEUN) has

been working as an apex organiza‐

tion of over241 Electricity Users Co‐

operatives (EUCs) to promote energy

access, consumer capacity building,

livelihood development through

rights, facilitate in creating user‐

friendly rural electrification program

and policies and to empower com‐

Dr. Govind Kelkar, International Research Expert visited

CRT/N from 12

‐ 18 March 2013. Detailed discussion has

been held on baseline survey planning as well as the tools

such as questionnaires, checklists and Project

Performance and Monitoring System (PPMS). Further, the

project team along with Dr. Kelkar visited one of the

Electricity Users Committee (EUC) ‐ Digo Bikash

Samudayek Vidhutikaran Aviyan in Madankudari, Kavre

district to pre‐test the questionnaire which is one of the

site of project Improving Gender‐Inclusive Access to Clean

and Renewable Energy in Bhutan, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
