What’s New in 2011

• Two applications now

– Crystal Reports 2011 Designer

– Crystal Reports 2011 for Enterprise

• New Features Limited in Classic Version

– As in almost nothing on the front end

• Lots of new functionality in SAP BO 4.0

– Most of the changes are not available for Crystal…classic designer

What’s Not So New?

• No major functionality upgrades for “rich client” 2011

• Same look and feel – yes, still 32 bit

• New backend processing

• Still solid application but nothing significant added except:

– Support for xlsx export

– Read Only reports – some coolness there!

– Integration to Visual Studio 2010 – including new functions

What is the Enterprise Tool?

• Does everyone remember way back before Crystal was bought by BusinessObjects?

• What does it look like now?

• What are the major missing/new features

– Support for the new universes

– No direct to data interface

– No non-universe connections…yet (promised in 4.1)

– Not backwards compatible with Crystal 2011 rich client

Major New/Missing Functionality in Enterprise

• No SDK/API functionality – promised in 4.1

• Missing some charting functionality/options

• Improved connectivity with SAP

• Nicer look and feel

• Easier report creation

• Question is really about what do you use Crystal for

– Imbedded reports

• Well, do you plan on going to 4.0?

• Real question is now going to be thin or thick client tool

– Do you need the new universes or old data sources?

– Moving towards more client interaction!
