Spring Registration
Once again, the fall semester is
flying by and it is almost time to
register for classes for the spring
semester! Registration for spring
classes begins on October 30th.
Sign-ups for advisement meetings
will begin to go up after fall break,
so keep an eye out.
Fall Break
Fall Break is Monday 10/16 and
Tuesday 10/17 this year. Just a
reminder, the clinic will be closed
on these dates and there will be no
observations. Have a great break!
Attraction: Roba’s Family Farms
Roba’s Family Farms is a
must-do during autumn here in Scranton! Take I-81 North
to the Scott Exit, and the farm is a short scenic ride away. I suggest going on a
Friday if possible to avoid the weekend crowds. Score
discounted admission with a group of 20+ people…cohort trip anyone?? Get lost in the
corn maze, ride the old-fashioned hayride to the
pumpkin patch, and fly high on the pumpkin pillow
trampoline! Countless other activities include pumpkin launching, campfires and
petting animals. Bring home a pumpkin to carve or some farm fresh goods! The Roba family also offers an apple
orchard at a different location. Break out those fall
boots and make it a date!

FALL in love
with speech!
In the Eyes of a…
As a cohort we spend the majority of our week in Phonetics and Intro to CSD with Dr. Burrows. On Thursday as a part of the Speech and Hearing club and our UNIV 100 class, we will watch The King's Speech. I look forward to what the rest of the year has to bring!
-Madison Horwath
Freshman
Cohort 11 just took our first test in Speech and Language Development. The classes we're taking are Speech and Language Development, Linguistics, and Language Sample Analysis lab.

Sophomore
preparing and studying
for our first audiology
test. We all worked hard,
intensely studying the
anatomy and physiology
of the complex ear,
which had paid off. I
can't speak for everyone,
but I know I am both
anxious and excited to be
applying and preparing
for grad school this year
and love listening to the
cohort ahead of ours'
advice and stories. We
are excited to see what
this program holds for us
and can't wait to
experience it together!
-Emily Zarrilli
Cohort 11 is very busy with clients and groups! We are currently taking all graduate classes such as Dysphagia, Diagnostics, and Neuroscience. The only major changes for us have been a bigger workload and more clients!
-Samantha Bussinelli
Junior
My cohort and I are currently in the midst of our internships. Most of us are placed with children in a school or early intervention center, while others are in a hospital working with adults! Personally, I’ve had nothing but amazing experiences in the school setting so far and the kids are adorable! I’m taking Communication Disorders Related to TBI/RHD, and the rest of my cohort is also taking Pediatric Neuromotor Speech Disorders. I think we’re all super excited to be gaining more knowledge in the speech world. It’s definitely an adjustment coming from the Marywood Clinic, especially schedule-wise, but I can’t say enough wonderful things about it. I hope everyone is having a great fall semester!

First-Year Grad
Second-Year Grad
Our cohort started off our semester with the happiest of quizzes, already quickly approaching happy quiz number five. This past week, we spent our whole week preparing

Madison Horwath Freshman Favorite Fall Activity: Watching football.
Kelcie Spreng Sophomore Favorite Fall Activity: I really like finding a new book to read, and seeing the leaves change is always one of my favorite times of the year!
Emily Zarrilli Junior Favorite Fall Activity: My favorite fall activity would have to be apple and pumpkin picking on a cold fall day with my family and friends and ending it by having some apple cider.
Samantha Bussinelli First-Year Grad Favorite Fall Activity: My favorite fall activity is apple picking with my family.
Tiffany Mathis Second-Year Grad Favorite Fall Activity: My favorite fall activity is eating warm apple cider donuts and eating pretty much anything that has the word “pumpkin” written on it!

Early diagnosis is key to try and get someone help at the early stages.
Looking for a cure! A cure is still being looked for but there are treatments that can help patients slow the symptoms and able them to participate in daily activities. Efforts are being made to find ways to treat patients better and hopefully conquer the disease.
Worldwide, 47 million people are living with Alzheimer's and other dementias.
GO PURPLE!
Myths: 1. Memory loss is a natural part of
aging 2. Only older people can get
Alzheimer’s Reality:
1. Alzheimer’s causes more than memory loss, where brains cells die and cannot be regenerated
2. People as young as 30 can be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, and at age 65 it increases greatly.
