The Blanche L Collins Scholarship Fund I. Background Blanche L. Collins’ lifelong priorities have included her faith, family, friends, church and education. She was born in Bluefield, West Virginia, graduated from West Virginia State College and spent nearly 30 years teaching elementary school children primarily in Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio. She also is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. A big commitment in her life’s journey has been to teach and instill the importance of education in the lives of young people. She had such an impact on these students that many of them have maintained relationships and have included her in major events throughout their lives. Mrs. Collins knows the value of a college degree and wants to help our youth with limited financial resources to complete their college education and achieve their dreams in life. The fund is established with the Greater Cincinnati Scholarship Foundation. II. Purpose The purpose of the Blanche L. Collins Scholarship will be to grant undergraduate scholarships to graduating high seniors and existing college students attending an accredited, non-proprietary college or university and who have demonstrated academic achievements, character in and out of the classroom, service in the community and who need financial assistance to begin or continue their college/university education at the college or university level. III. Eligibility Recipient of the Blanche L. Collins Scholarship fund must: Be a resident of Franklin County, Ohio or Mercer County (Bluefield, West Virginia) Graduating high school senior or existing college student from the Columbus Public Schools or Bluefield Public Schools. Show proven financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Assistance (FAFSA) Good academic standing, character, community service in high school

II. PurposeThe purpose of the Blanche L. or Bluefield Public Schools.● Show proven financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student

Assistance (FAFSA)● Good academic standing, character, community service in high school ● Maintain a minimum of 2.5 grade point average on a scale of 4.0 throughout his/her college

or university career● Verifiable involvement in community service and outreach activities ● Priority to family of Ashbury United Methodist Church in Columbus Ohio and surrounding

community or John Stewart United Methodist Church in Bluefield, West Virginia● Have had an average GPA of 2.5 or above on scale of 4.0 during their high school career

The amount of the scholarship award will be determined by the Cincinnati Scholarship Foundation shall not exceed $1,500 per academic year and shall be renewable for four years, or five years for those majoring in five-year programs, provided the recipient meets all of the above eligibility requirements.

V. RecipientsThe recipients of the Blanche L. Collins Scholarship Fund will be chosen by the Cincinnati Scholarship Fund in cooperation with the Collins/Jones Family. All decisions are final.
