The Shelby Cullom Davis Center for Historical Studies is inviting applications for fellowships to be held during the academic year 1991-92, the second half of its two-year seminar on "Imperialism, Colonialism, and the Colonial Aftermath," which has as its goal the encouragement of new thinking on these topics within a wide range of time and geography. Comparative per- spectives, both substantive and interpretive, are welcome. Inquiries and re- quests for Fellowship Application Forms should be addressed to the Secretary at the Center, 129 Dickinson Hall, Princeton University, Princeton, N.J., 08544-1017, U.S.A. The deadline for submission is December 1, 1990. Scholars who would like to offer a paper to the seminar are asked to send a brief description of their proposal and a current curriculum vitae to Natalie Z. Davis,' Director, 1990-94.

The International Society for the Study of European Ideas, which is spon- sored by the European Cultural Foundation, will hold a conference on 3-8 September 1990 on "Comparative History of European Nationalismn: To- wards Europe 1992" at the Catholic University of Leuven (Louvain), Belgium. There will be forty workshops held on the political, cultural, philo- sophical, and economic aspects of the theme. The Social History Society of the United Kingdom, a broad-based organiza- tion committed to promoting greater contact between academic disciplines and a more multicultural and international approach to social history, will hold its annual conference at Bishop Grosseteste College, Lincoln, on 3-5 January 1991. The theme will be "Rumour, News, and Propaganda."
