SECTION 1

PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

INTRODUCTION

The Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons) in Business Computing is a homegrown

program specifically designed to deliver a suitable level of theoretical and practical

understanding in computing and information technology applied for businesses. Its first

intake was in May 2018 and has achieved provisional accreditation from the Malaysian

Qualifications Agency (MQA) in 2017.

This programme consists of various structures and covers basic computing and

Information Technology skills such as programming, computer systems and applications

related to businesses as well as basic businesses subjects including financial, project

management and marketing.

At the end of the program, graduates should be able to apply information technology

and computing techniques that provide solutions to business organisations and its

operations.

The effective use of computing and Information technology in business environment are

crucial to every modern business and profession, and experts in this field will always be

in demand. Job opportunities exist as analyst/programmers, software developers,

database administrators, Internet applications developers, product/network support or

in IT sales and training. Graduates may work in specialist IT companies or in the IT

operations section of a large organisation. Alternatively, your skills in logical thinking,

problem solving and project management will equip you for a career in many other roles

in computing sectors of business and industry.

PROGRAMME INFORMATION

1. Programme Title : Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons) in Business Computing 2. Programme Code : CT203 3. Duration : 3 years 4. Total Credit Hours : 120 5. Medium of Instruction : English/ B. Melayu(for MPU courses) 6. Entry Requirement :

a. A Pass in Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia

(STPM) or its equivalent, with a minimum Grade

C+ (CGPA 2.00) in any two subjects, and credits

in Mathematics at SPM level;

b. A Pass in Matriculation/Foundation qualification

or its equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.00

out of 4.00 and credits in Mathematics at SPM

level;

c. A Pass in Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) or

its equivalent, with a minimum Grade Jayyid and

minimum Jayyid in any two subjects, and credits

in Mathematics at SPM level;

d. Diploma in Computer Science OR Software

Engineering OR Information Technology OR

Information Systems OR equivalent with a

minimum CGPA of 2.50 and a credit in

Mathematics at SPM level or its equivalent;

OR

e. Any other Diploma in Science and Technology or

Business Studies with a minimum CGPA of 2.50

maybe admitted subject to a rigorous internal

assessment process and a credit in mathematics

COURSE INFORMATION

ARB301 ARABIC 1 Prerequisite: None Kursus ini akan mendedahkan kepada pelajar perkara-perkara asas dalam bahasa Arab seperti huruf-huruf hijaiyyah, tatabahasa dan empat kemahiran bahasa (mendengar, membaca, menulis dan bertutur) berdasarkan situasi yang telah ditetapkan. ARB302 ARABIC 2 Prerequisite: ARB301 Kursus ini merupakan lanjutan kepada kursus Bahasa Arab 1. Pada peringkat ini, insya Allah para pelajar akan dibimbing untuk meneruskan kemahiran Bahasa Arab berdasarkan peringkat asas yang telah dipelajari. Pertambahan silibus yang bersesuaian diharap dapat memberi pengukuhan bahasa kepada para pelajar dalam menguasai empat kemahiran bahasa di tahap sederhana. BUS301 INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS Prerequisite: None This course studies the issues involved in conducting business in the international arena including the business environment, global public relations strategies, organisational behaviour, international human resources, ethics, social responsibility, law, and international marketing. It provides students with key concepts and skills to identify international opportunities/threats, analyse their impact, contrast appropriate strategies and differentiate types of international business activities. CIV301 POLITICS AND WORLD CIVILIZATION 2 Prerequisite: None

The purpose of this course is to provide an overview of knowledge related to politics and world civilization. The main purpose of this course is to ensure the students are able to understand current issues globally. Therefore, this course is divided into three main components namely political theory and concept, history of world civilization and the current world order. CSC201 INTRODUCTION TO PROGRAMMING Prerequisite: None

This module serves students with the theoretical foundation and experimental (practical) applications of Object-oriented Programming (OOP) paradigm to support the key competencies in basic programming skills, problem solving and algorithmic design. It enables the students to embark for higher education or enhance programming skills and support their progressions into professional careers in computing. CSC202 VISUAL PROGRAMMING Prerequisite: CSC201 The course provides more on practical aspects of functions, procedures, arithmetic operations, form design, common form controls, data validation techniques, arrays, multi forms, files and the application of database design with database management systems

This course explains what operating systems are and what they do. It also introduces to the students the issues and techniques of resources management and protection and shows how computer system manages processor, memory and secondary storage to be used by the process in an efficient manner. CSC204 WEB APPLICATION PROGRAMMING Prerequisite: CSC201

This course will prepare students to learn the concept and practice of web application development, overview of architectures, scripting and database access and also data transfer. Students will create a client-server based product for a web application. CSC 303 MOBILE APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT Prerequisite: CSC201 This course introduces students the important concepts and aspects in mobile application development on several platforms such as Android and iOS including user interface design, data storage, multimedia support, multi-threading, debug, test, security and application distributions as well as publishing. CSC406 WEB API DEVELOPMENT Prerequisite: CSC204

The content of this course is divided into two main parts. The first part focus on understanding and visuallizing business processes using business process modelling and notation (BPMN). The second part will focus on implementing the BPMN constructs in web application programming interfaces (API). Through understanding both the business and development perpectives, this course will provides student with the skills necessary to develop RESTful web services or API. ENT301 ENTREPRENEURSHIP WITH DIGITAL APPLICATION 2 Prerequisite: None

This subject will expose the students with theoretical knowledge of entrepreneur and entrepreneurship, the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs and the common types of new business venture. This subject provides students with the basic knowledge and process on how to prepare a business plan. Students will learn basic areas that are related to entrepreneurship disciplines such as management, marketing, operation, human resource management and accounting. It also requires students to do research and consultation with their respective lecturers in preparing the business plan. During the course students recommend creative idea for product improvement in preparation to create and realize their own business.

ENW304 ACADEMIC WRITING Prerequisite: None

This module is for non-native speakers of English. There will be focus on linguistic features of widely occurring professional communication genres. Students will practice a formal, impersonal style of writing and will be expected to make use of a wider range of suitable lexis. FIN303 PERSONAL FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT Prerequisite: None

Personal Financial Management course basically covers the importance of managing finances towards achieving individual’s financial goals or objectives. This includes the need for proper financial planning, understanding financial products/services offered by financial institutions, and securing investment and life uncertainties through insurance. It also provides awareness on basic financial requirements in starting out in life with a career, for example, buying a car, owning a house, getting married and retirement and conclusively, the possible signs and circumstances that can lead to financial trouble and possible options available in getting out of it. FRN301 FRENCH 1 Prerequisite: None

This course is designed to focuses on exposure to, and practice of, general language functions in spoken, written and aural forms. Grammatical structures necessary for the production of the target language and practice of pronunciation, intonation and stress. It also helps to develop language-learning skills and to foster cultural (Francophone) awareness. FRN302 FRENCH 2 Prerequisite: None This course has higher depth compared to its pre-requisite, French 1. This course is designed to focuses on exposure to, and practice of, general language functions in spoken, written and aural forms. Grammatical structures necessary for the production of the target language and practice of pronunciation, intonation and stress. It also helps to develop language-learning skills and to foster cultural (Francophone) awareness. IMF 201 DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIETY Prerequisite: None This course is to explain the importance of internet and digital technology that give impacts to the individual and society. Current application and issues related to the misuse of technology are investigated and ethical and legal aspects discussed. IMF203 DATABASE FUNDAMENTAL Prerequisite: None

The course objectives are to provide the students with knowledge and skills in database concepts which focus on fundamental aspects of database system. The focus will be more on practical aspects of database design concepts and procedures. It covers database design and the use of database management systems and information security,

for applications used in any organization. In addition, students will acquire skills to solve problems in query formulation, application data requirements, data modelling and normalization. IMF204 DATABASE MANAGEMENT AND INFORMATION RETRIEVAL Prerequisite: IMF203

This course provides an insight into additional database management aspect in terms of data handling and analysis in a secured distributed environment. It provides a fundamental study of database management, distributed database and concurrent transaction, information retrieval, database performance-tuning and database security management. IMF208 COMPUTER ORGANIZATION AND ARCHITECTURE Prerequisite: None

This course aims to provide a strong foundation for students to understand modern computer system architecture and to apply these insights and principles to future computer designs. The course is structured around the three primary building blocks of general-purpose computing systems: processors, memories, and networks. IMF301 OBJECT ORIENTED SYSTEMS ANALYSIS & DESIGN Prerequisite: None

This course start with the description about system requirements organization types, i.e. how information can be organized at the stage of system analysis. Further system analysis and design is described according to an analysis of system application and construction of system model based on use-cases. Diagram in UML language is constructed during system analysis and design. Construction of systems model diagram is supported by any system modeling tool. IMF302 ENTERPRISE INFORMATION SYSTEMS Prerequisite: None

The focus of this module is information systems, people, software, hardware, data and

communication technologies and how these components can be integrated and

managed to create competitive advantage for business. The module is complemented

by an introduction to the methodology and techniques of IS/IT strategy and modelling

tools and techniques. The module gives students a theoritical introduction to the

information systems development process, its constituent stages and associated

techniques and tools. It establishes a firm foundation for subsequent further study of the

information systems and development processes.

IMF303 INFORMATION SYSTEM SECURITY Prerequisite: None

This course will prepare students to learn both theories and practical skills of the foundations and technologies of network and system security. It will formulate students understanding of overall basic foundations and technologies of network and systems security by including various cryptographic techniques and their application in network, web, operating systems and database securities.

IMF401 DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM Prerequisite: None

This course provides an intermediate level of knowledge which revolves around using system approach method in solving organizational problems. Students will be exposed to the importance of information and analysis skill in making decision within the organization. It will also provide examples of suitable tools and practical computer based information systems which able to support organizational decision making activities. The topics include basic theoretical backgrounds and development approach of a decision support system. During the course, students are required to solve related case studies to test their theoretical understanding of the course. Students are also required to develop a mini prototype of information system at the end of the course to apply their knowledge in practice. IMF402 COMPUTING PROJECT 1 Prerequisite: IMF301

The project module will be a major individual study in a computing related topic at the honours level. It will serve as the main vehicle for integration of the various course modules and should provide a focus for practical application of other course material. Each project must be unique and they will therefore vary in their scope and emphasis. However, they should, in general, provide first-hand experience of an aspect of the analysis, development or application of systems. Projects are expected to be a substantial practical problem-solving exercise or a research study, which require students to demonstrate their skill in organization, time management, investigation and communication. The Honours Project provides the opportunity to extent knowledge and experience in a specialized area. IMF403 COMPUTING PROJECT 2 Prerequisite: IMF302 The course will be a major individual study in Business Computing related topic at Honours level. It will serve as the main vehicle for integration of the various course modules and should provide a focus for practical application of other course materials. Each project must be unique and they will therefore vary in their scope and emphasis. However they should in general, provide first-hand experience of an aspect of analysis, development or application of a tangible product. Project is expected to be substantial practical problem-solving exercise or a research study which require students to demonstrate their skill in organization, time management, investigation and communication. IMF404 SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES Prerequisite: IMF301 This module builds on basic ideas of information system and equips the student with a more detailed knowledge of the main techniques employed in the object-oriented approach to Information Systems Development. It considers ways in which user involvement and CASE tools can improve the development process. It also extends the student's knowledge of relevant Internet technologies, such as Internet security, web development, distributed objects and client/server architecture.

IMF405 E-COMMERCE Prerequisite: None

This course covers the role of e-commerce and its related issues in classification, business models, infrastructure, security and payment. This subject also gives exposure how to participate in e-commerce transactions. IMF407 BUSINESS INFORMATION MANAGEMENT STRATEGY Prerequisite: None This subject provides an understanding of the following: STRATEGIC PLANNING – The role and importance of the business planning process; the current business environment; business strategy analysis using tools such as PESTLE factors, competitive position, SWOT analysis; establishing competitive advantage through value chain analysis. ROLE OF IS/IT IN BUSINESS STRATEGY – The exploitation of IS/IT in business planning. Analysis of competitive performance. Identification of the management information systems model and business application portfolio. The role of IS/IT in competitive advantage and managing knowledge and accountability. MANAGING IS/IT AND STRATEGIC CHANGE – The management and organization of the IS/IT function and its relationship with the organization of the business. IS/IT resource management and the integration of business strategy and IS/IT strategy using strategic alignment models. IS/IT strategy as a facilitator of change. Examples of integration will include the use of information systems strategy to gain competitive advantage, competitive restructuring, support for organizational learning and business process re-engineering. INT403 INDUSTRIAL TRAINING Prerequisite: Pass ALL subjects & CGPA greater or equal to 2.0

Students will be placed in the industry (either the government or recognized private sector) for 14 weeks after completing all modules. They will be trained in real life working environment relevant to their field of study focusing on developing professional transferable skills for employability and life-long skills. Apart from this, the training experience will further solidify the on-campus learning process and activities. MAN301 MANDARIN 1 Prerequisite: None This course covers introduction to the Chinese universal pronunciation system (Hanyu Pinyin), Chinese simplified characters, basic speaking and listening skills for communicative purposes on selected topics in daily life. MAN302 MANDARIN 2 Prerequisite: MAN301 This is a continuation course from MAN301 which covers information to the Chinese universal pronunciation system (Hanyu Pinyin), Chinese simplified characters, basic speaking, listening, writing and reading skills for communicate purposes on selected topics in daily life.

MAT201 DISCRETE MATHEMATICS 1 Prerequisite: None The course objectives are to prepare students to learn and use elementary techniques of data presentation. They will apply the basic mathematical and statistical concepts used in Computing Science problems. MAT202 DISCRETE MATHEMATICS 2 Prerequisite: MAT201 The objectives of this module are to familiarize students with further mathematical concepts used in computer science and to show how those concepts can be applied to common computing science problems. MKT201 PRINCIPLES OF MARKETING Prerequisite: None

This course is designed to expose, prepare and equip students with the basic marketing techniques used in business. The topics covered in this course include marketing environment, competitor analysis, competitive strategies, buying behaviour, market segmentation, targeting, positioning, marketing mix, product strategy, product life cycle, service marketing, pricing strategy, distribution strategy, integrated marketing communication, global marketing. MMC201 HUMAN COMPUTER INTERACTION Prerequisite: None This course is related to the design courses which require students to understand the aspects involved in creating on environment for humans to interact with the computer. It helps students develop user interfaces for different interactions. MMC407 USER INTERFACE DEVELOPMENT Prerequisite: None

This course builds upon studies in Human Computer Interaction at level 1. The aim of this module is to provide students with an understanding of the factors affecting the design of human-computer interfaces, and to introduce the principles and practice of interface design and construction. The approach is a practical one, with students required to design, build, analyze and evaluate user interfaces. MPU3113 HUBUNGAN ETNIK Prerequisite: None Kursus ini memfokuskan perbincangan tentang hubungan etnik di Malaysia yang mana ianya merupakan proses hubungan sosial yang dinamik. Tujuan kursus ini adalah untuk meningkatkan pemahaman pelajar-pelajar tentang konsep kesepaduan sosial, potret hubungan etnik, konsep-konsep asas hubungan etnik, pluraliti dan masyarakat pluralistik di Malaysia, pembangunan politik, pembangunan ekonomi, dan perlembagaan Malaysia dalam konteks hubungan etnik di Malaysia, integrasi dan menangani cabaran agama dan masyarakat, sumbangan kerajaan dan masyarakat dan inter-etnik dan intra-etnik.

MPU3123 TAMADUN ISLAM DAN TAMADUN ASIA (TITAS) Prerequisite: None

Kursus ini membincangkan tentang ilmu ketamadunan yang mencakupi pengenalan ilmu ketamadunan, interaksi antara pelbagai tamadun Melayu, Cina dan India, Islam dalam Tamadun Melayu, Isu-isu Kontemporari Tamadun Islam dan Tamadun Asia, Islam Hadhari dan proses pembangunan Negara. Objektif matapelajaran ini ialah untuk memperkenalkan kepada pelajar tentang ilmu ketamadunan yang mencakupi pengenalan ilmu ketamadunan, interaksi antara pelbagai tamadun, isu-isu kontemporari dan implikasinya kepada proses pembangunan Negara disamping melahirkan pelajar yang mempunyai sikap hormat menghormati, mengamalkan nilai-nilai murni dan mempunyai jatidiri sebagai warganegara. MPU3143 BAHASA MELAYU KOMUNIKASI 2 Prerequisite: None

Kursus ini melatih pelajar antarabangsa untuk berkomunikasi dalam Bahasa Melayu asas yang meliputi situasi kehidupan harian. Pelajar akan diperkenalkan dengan pertuturan dan penulisan bahasa Melayu mudah. Pengajaran dan pembelajaran akan dilaksanakan dalam bentuk kuliah, tutorial, tugasan dan pengalaman pembelajaran pelajar di dalam dan di luar kelas. This course is designed to produce graduates who understand the identity of Malaysia towards fostering the spirit of universality. Teaching and learning will be implemented in the form of lectures, assignments, exams and learning experience. MPU3223 LEADERSHIP AND INTERPERSONAL SKILL 2 Prerequisite: None This course explains to the students about leadership and interpersonal skills in real life situation. Besides that, this course also applies the Islamic leadership and Islamic interpersonal skill perspective to the students. Furthermore, student is able to demonstrate the style of leadership and style of interpersonal skill in effective management. MPU3323 PENGAJIAN ISLAM (ISLAMIC STUDIES) Prerequisite: None Kursus ini membincangkan ilmu-ilmu dalam Islam yang merangkumi pelbagai aspek yang berkaitan dengan urusan kehidupan individu, masyarakat dan negara. Selain itu, perbincangan juga terarah kepada cabaran semasa yang dihadapi umat Islam. Modul ini memberi peluang kepada pelajar untuk memahami kursus khidmat masyarakat berdasarkan pengalaman praktikal bersama masyarakat setempat dengan melibatkan bersama agensi sukarelawan. Di akhir kursus ini pelajar memperolehi kecekapan dalam mengurus sesuatu program kemasyarakatan melalui kemahiran insaniah seperti menyelesaikan masalah dan kerjasama dalam kumpulan. NET201 COMPUTER SYSTEMS AND NETWORKING (CISCO 1) Prerequisite: None

The course objectives are to allow students to understand network architecture, devices, media transmission and components that support communications in network computing. The students will also understand about addressing scheme, used in IPv4 and IPv6 environments. SWE401 PROJECT MANAGEMENT Prerequisite: None

This module introduces students to project management and provides a foundation for developing project skills both human and technical, that will enable them to work on a variety projects, primarily with a computer or knowledge-based element. Students are encouraged from the outset to see the role of project manager within broader perspective strategic business management, understanding where projects come from and why they are selected. The roles of both the purchaser and the supplier of a computer knowledge based project are recognised and explored. The importance of the de facto project management scheduling skills, quality and estimating standards are emphasised. The human and change aspects of projects are considered in order that the student may understand the effect on morale, productivity and quality of management.

The Academic Calendar for KUPTM has the following features:

KUPTM uses a 3 three semester system in which a short semester is sandwiched between two long semesters.

The first semester of the academic year normally begins in January.

For the long semester, a 7-1-7 split of instruction weeks and semester break followed by 1 week study leave and 2 weeks of final examination.

The second semester of the academic year normally begins in middle of the year which is a short semester with 7 instruction week followed by 1 week of revision week and 1 week of final examination.

The third semester of the academic year begins in September which is another long semester.

Class replacement will be done in cases where public holidays disrupt the accumulation of 14 instruction weeks within a long semester or 7 instruction weeks of the short semester.

The semester break may be adjusted whenever possible to coincide with major public holidays (such as Hari Raya and Chinese New Year Celebrations) to minimize class replacement.

1. Plagiarism: Statement

Plagiarism is using other people’s ideas such as words, opinions, thoughts, products, information and findings/results, (both spoken or written) inclusive of assignments, project papers, thesis/dissertations, research, proposals, tests and examination papers and pass them off as your own without giving credit to them in the form of citation, acknowledgement and referencing.

The penalties for plagiarism include the following:

A fail grade of work

Suspension from academic session

Expulsion from the University

Withdrawal or revocation of Degree

2. Requirements of Class Attendance

Students must attend all lectures including other forms of learning activities such as workshops/ tutorials/ laboratory work/ studio work/ fieldwork/ practical work/ practicum/ industrial or clinical training as stipulated in the syllabus. Students with less than 80% attendance from the total contact hours for: 1) Courses with final examinations, are not allowed to sit for the final examination of that

course.

2) Courses with no final examinations, the course work will not be evaluated. This is true for every course if the written approval for absence is not sought from the Faculty.

3. Award of Foundation, Diploma and Degree

A qualification award will be conferred on a student who fulfils the following requirements:

1) acquired a CGPA of at least 2.00; 2) passed all the courses required by the Programme of Study and obtained a Graduate

status (GRD); 3) fulfilled all conditions and requirements of the University; 4) Endorsed by the Senate.
