Dear Students, This program handbook has been prepared for your general information and guidance as
a student of Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons) in Business Computing, to
familiarize you with the program structure and information related to the program
throughout your study at the college. It is important that you read through and understand
the contents of this book as a source of reference.
Knowledge oriented student is vital in ensuring all students and staff of the college fulfil
the mission and vision of the college to produce students who are proactive, progressive
and professional.
Hopefully this program handbook will enable you to understand and adapt yourself
academically and socially as a college student.
We are confident that you will be duly rewarded for a brighter future when you register with
us provided that you have the right attitude and commitment towards your studies.

SECTION 1
PROGRAMME OVERVIEW
INTRODUCTION
The Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons) in Business Computing is a homegrown
program specifically designed to deliver a suitable level of theoretical and practical
understanding in computing and information technology applied for businesses. Its first
intake was in May 2018 and has achieved provisional accreditation from the Malaysian
Qualifications Agency (MQA) in 2017.
This programme consists of various structures and covers basic computing and
Information Technology skills such as programming, computer systems and applications
related to businesses as well as basic businesses subjects including financial, project
management and marketing.
At the end of the program, graduates should be able to apply information technology
and computing techniques that provide solutions to business organisations and its
operations.
The effective use of computing and Information technology in business environment are
crucial to every modern business and profession, and experts in this field will always be
in demand. Job opportunities exist as analyst/programmers, software developers,
database administrators, Internet applications developers, product/network support or
in IT sales and training. Graduates may work in specialist IT companies or in the IT
operations section of a large organisation. Alternatively, your skills in logical thinking,
problem solving and project management will equip you for a career in many other roles
in computing sectors of business and industry.

PROGRAMME INFORMATION
1. Programme Title : Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons) in Business Computing 2. Programme Code : CT203 3. Duration : 3 years 4. Total Credit Hours : 120 5. Medium of Instruction : English/ B. Melayu(for MPU courses) 6. Entry Requirement :
a. A Pass in Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia
(STPM) or its equivalent, with a minimum Grade
C+ (CGPA 2.00) in any two subjects, and credits
in Mathematics at SPM level;
b. A Pass in Matriculation/Foundation qualification
or its equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.00
out of 4.00 and credits in Mathematics at SPM
level;
c. A Pass in Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) or
its equivalent, with a minimum Grade Jayyid and
minimum Jayyid in any two subjects, and credits
in Mathematics at SPM level;
d. Diploma in Computer Science OR Software
Engineering OR Information Technology OR
Information Systems OR equivalent with a
minimum CGPA of 2.50 and a credit in
Mathematics at SPM level or its equivalent;
OR
e. Any other Diploma in Science and Technology or
Business Studies with a minimum CGPA of 2.50
maybe admitted subject to a rigorous internal
assessment process and a credit in mathematics
at SPM level or its equivalent;

f. Candidates with CGPA below 2.50 but above
2.00 with a credit in mathematics at SPM level or
its equivalent maybe admitted subject to a
rigorous internal assessment process.
AND
For international candidates, a minimum core of 550
in Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International Language Testing System (IELTS) Band 5.5
Note: Conditions for credit mathematics at SPM level can be replaced with equivalent mathematics courses taken at foundation/diploma level with minimum grade C and above.
7. Programme Educational Objectives:
The specific program educational objectives are for the students to: PEO1 possess fundamental knowledge, principles and skills in Information
Technology
PEO2 have strong analytical and critical thinking skills to solve problems by applying knowledge, principles and skills in Information Technology
PEO3 possess the ability to design, implement and manage Information Technology solutions and resources and recognise the impact of technology on individuals, organisations and society
PEO4 possess skills to integrate various technology solutions 8. Programme Outcomes:
Upon the completion of the program, graduates should be able to:

9. Awarding Body: Kolej Universiti Poly-Tech MARA (KUPTM) Kuala Lumpur
10. Programme Standards: The programme has been developed based on the
requirement of Malaysian Qualification Framework (MQF). MQA is a statutory body in Malaysia set up under the Malaysian Qualifications Act 2007 to accredit academic programs provided by educational institutions providing post-secondary or higher education and facilitate the accreditation and articulation of qualifications. This curriculum for this programme has been designed based on the Computing Programme Standards 2015.

COURSE INFORMATION
ARB301 ARABIC 1 Prerequisite: None Kursus ini akan mendedahkan kepada pelajar perkara-perkara asas dalam bahasa Arab seperti huruf-huruf hijaiyyah, tatabahasa dan empat kemahiran bahasa (mendengar, membaca, menulis dan bertutur) berdasarkan situasi yang telah ditetapkan. ARB302 ARABIC 2 Prerequisite: ARB301 Kursus ini merupakan lanjutan kepada kursus Bahasa Arab 1. Pada peringkat ini, insya Allah para pelajar akan dibimbing untuk meneruskan kemahiran Bahasa Arab berdasarkan peringkat asas yang telah dipelajari. Pertambahan silibus yang bersesuaian diharap dapat memberi pengukuhan bahasa kepada para pelajar dalam menguasai empat kemahiran bahasa di tahap sederhana. BUS301 INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS Prerequisite: None This course studies the issues involved in conducting business in the international arena including the business environment, global public relations strategies, organisational behaviour, international human resources, ethics, social responsibility, law, and international marketing. It provides students with key concepts and skills to identify international opportunities/threats, analyse their impact, contrast appropriate strategies and differentiate types of international business activities. CIV301 POLITICS AND WORLD CIVILIZATION 2 Prerequisite: None
The purpose of this course is to provide an overview of knowledge related to politics and world civilization. The main purpose of this course is to ensure the students are able to understand current issues globally. Therefore, this course is divided into three main components namely political theory and concept, history of world civilization and the current world order. CSC201 INTRODUCTION TO PROGRAMMING Prerequisite: None
This module serves students with the theoretical foundation and experimental (practical) applications of Object-oriented Programming (OOP) paradigm to support the key competencies in basic programming skills, problem solving and algorithmic design. It enables the students to embark for higher education or enhance programming skills and support their progressions into professional careers in computing. CSC202 VISUAL PROGRAMMING Prerequisite: CSC201 The course provides more on practical aspects of functions, procedures, arithmetic operations, form design, common form controls, data validation techniques, arrays, multi forms, files and the application of database design with database management systems

The content of this course is divided into two main parts. The first part focus on understanding and visuallizing business processes using business process modelling and notation (BPMN). The second part will focus on implementing the BPMN constructs in web application programming interfaces (API). ENT301 ENTREPRENEURSHIP WITH DIGITAL APPLICATION 2 Prerequisite: None
This subject will expose the students with theoretical knowledge of entrepreneur and entrepreneurship, the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs and the common types of new business venture. This subject provides students with the basic knowledge and process on how to prepare a business plan. Students will learn basic areas that are related to entrepreneurship disciplines such as management, marketing, operation, human resource management and accounting. Students will practice a formal, impersonal style of writing and will be expected to make use of a wider range of suitable lexis. FIN303 PERSONAL FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT Prerequisite: None
Personal Financial Management course basically covers the importance of managing finances towards achieving individual’s financial goals or objectives. This includes the need for proper financial planning, understanding financial products/services offered by financial institutions, and securing investment and life uncertainties through insurance. It also provides awareness on basic financial requirements in starting out in life with a career, for example, buying a car, owning a house, getting married and retirement and conclusively, the possible signs and circumstances that can lead to financial trouble and possible options available in getting out of it. IMF401 DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM Prerequisite: None
This course provides an intermediate level of knowledge which revolves around using system approach method in solving organizational problems. Students will be exposed to the importance of information and analysis skill in making decision within the organization. It will also provide examples of suitable tools and practical computer based information systems which able to support organizational decision making activities. The topics include basic theoretical backgrounds and development approach of a decision support system. During the course, students are required to solve related case studies to test their theoretical understanding of the course. Students are also required to develop a mini prototype of information system at the end of the course to apply their knowledge in practice. IMF402 COMPUTING PROJECT 1 Prerequisite: IMF301
The project module will be a major individual study in a computing related topic at the honours level. It will serve as the main vehicle for integration of the various course modules and should provide a focus for practical application of other course material. Each project must be unique and they will therefore vary in their scope and emphasis. However, they should, in general, provide first-hand experience of an aspect of the analysis, development or application of systems. Projects are expected to be a substantial practical problem-solving exercise or a research study, which require students to demonstrate their skill in organization, time management, investigation and communication. The Honours Project provides the opportunity to extent knowledge and experience in a specialized area. IMF403 COMPUTING PROJECT 2 Prerequisite: IMF302 The course will be a major individual study in Business Computing related topic at Honours level. It will serve as the main vehicle for integration of the various course modules and should provide a focus for practical application of other course materials. ROLE OF IS/IT IN BUSINESS STRATEGY – The exploitation of IS/IT in business planning. Analysis of competitive performance. Identification of the management information systems model and business application portfolio. The role of IS/IT in competitive advantage and managing knowledge and accountability. MANAGING IS/IT AND STRATEGIC CHANGE – The management and organization of the IS/IT function and its relationship with the organization of the business. IS/IT resource management and the integration of business strategy and IS/IT strategy using strategic alignment models. IS/IT strategy as a facilitator of change. Examples of integration will include the use of information systems strategy to gain competitive advantage, competitive restructuring, support for organizational learning and business process re-engineering. The Academic Calendar for KUPTM has the following features:
KUPTM uses a 3 three semester system in which a short semester is sandwiched between two long semesters.
The first semester of the academic year normally begins in January.
For the long semester, a 7-1-7 split of instruction weeks and semester break followed by 1 week study leave and 2 weeks of final examination.
The second semester of the academic year normally begins in middle of the year which is a short semester with 7 instruction week followed by 1 week of revision week and 1 week of final examination.
The third semester of the academic year begins in September which is another long semester.
Class replacement will be done in cases where public holidays disrupt the accumulation of 14 instruction weeks within a long semester or 7 instruction weeks of the short semester.
The semester break may be adjusted whenever possible to coincide with major public holidays (such as Hari Raya and Chinese New Year Celebrations) to minimize class replacement.
