consumer goods and PPE (personal protective equipment) laboratory in India. Our CTC Groupe Indian labora-tory will open its doors for all your pro-ducts in October. As a consequence, CTC Groupe international team is extending too. We are pleased to announce that French national experts will be present in both sites:

- Thomas yonG MEVEl, as Opera-tional and Commercial Manager of

CTC Vietnam. He graduated in textile and business and worked in textile industry (Alpaga) in Peru and in Vietnam (luxury and luggage) where he lived for 3 years. Thomas will support the laboratory offer development of CTC Vietnam.

- Pierre-Marie PlouHInEC, as Laboratory Manager of CTC India. He carried out Engineering studies and worked as R&D engineer in LAÏTA Group. Pierre-Marie will set up and run the CTC India Laboratory.

A footwear, leather and leather goods expert, CTC has followed/coached/assisted suppliers, industrials and retailers in the improve-ment of quality for more than 100 years. CTC expertise is constantly renewed thanks to its business intelligence and its yearly pro-gramme of Research and Development.

The leather industry in India is the 8th most important source of foreign capital investment in the country and there is a real government promotion to stimulate a strong industrial growth in this sector of activity within the 5 coming years. India is also the second footwear world producer.

SChEmE for lEathEr Global offErThe leather Industry in India has wide resources with 21% of the world cattle and 11% of the world goat and sheep. Additionally India has qualified and experienced leather manpower using latest technology and catching up with the environmental standard requested per its international clients.

In the past three decades, the leather products exported from India has seen important evolution. Previously, hide and leather raw materials represented the majority of the leather exportation but nowadays, the finish products and finished leather goods are the most ordered (it covers more than 75% of the total exportation in value). The global market expectation changed and it definitely helped to improve quality standard of Indian leather industry.

Considering this evolution and statues in the leather worldwide market, CTC is focused to bring a new and global offer to Indian Leather markets with its specific International recognition in “lea-ther expertise“.

Nowdays geographical locations of producing leather products are much more diversified and can change very quickly. > inspection of finished Leather and Leather goodsThe first service requested to CTC is “inspection of finished lea-ther goods“ and also “inspection of finished leather”. We control production through specific sampling checked in accordance with international standards (NF ISO 2859-1 or MIL STD 105E) and based on a specification and a sample provided by the buyer. Your order will be tracked in four main criteria quality, quantity, conformity and services allocated (packing and packaging). All will be summarized in a detailed report with photos and comments.

CTC inspectors check the conformity of your products at any production stage:

- pre-run and raw material inspection

- inline inspection

- final inspection

- loading inspection.

> Laboratory testingThe second level of control consists of the “laboratory testing“ that validates leather and leather products characteristics: material composition, strength, quality manufacturing, non-toxicity, etc.. Dozens of tests are possible depending on the needs of the buyer and the type of product. They are made in our Asian laboratories. These testing are in accordance with the strictest quality standards.

CTC Helps you Know more abouT new regulaTion: CE SEminarS in GrEatEr ChinaTo help the safety shoes and safety glove manufactures and sour-cing companies better organize and manage their CE marking certification according to the new and changing European rules, CTC Groupe provides 9 CE seminars in the first half-year of 2012 in Greater China, where the major safety shoes and safety glove manufacturing and trading areas locate: Nantong, Wenzhou, Dongguan, Shanghai, Gaomi, Qingdao, Yinan and Hongkong.

Lionel GAUDILLERE, CE Marking Manager of CTC Groupe, came to China for the first 2 seminars in Nantong and Wenzhou by the end of February 2012. As an expert of CE testing and certifica-tion, Lionel GAUDILLERE is the signer of CE certificates, and also actively participates into European standardization committees.

> a Large audienceMore than 500 attendees came to these seminars. With the speech of Lionel GAUDILLERE, Chinese factories and trading companies got to know the most updated information about CE regulation in Europe, and also learned a lot of useful knowledge on how to improve the quality of their products.

The seminar content covered: Introduction of CTC Groupe, CE marking regulation, Standard evolution, Standard details, Responsibility - Control of the market, Product quality, Technical file and traceability, Innocuousness - REACh regulation, other topic and Q&A.

> neW requirementsIn the safety shoes seminar, Lionel GAUDILLERE focused on the new requirement of penetration resistance:

- metallic insert (new method for picking sample for corrosion resistance. Only stainless steel is now acceptable)

- non Metallic insert (new method and requirement for penetration resistance : 1100 N - Nail shall not be found (= 0 mm)).

Accidents were noticed and registered (recorded) by the French Ministry of Labor. The French Ministry of labor considers that there is an improvement between the versions of EN ISO 20345/:2004/A1:2007 and the 2011 version. This protection strengthening should allow cancelling the dangerousness noticed with the models designed according to the old standards versions:

- by treating the corrosion problem of the metallic anti penetration insert which damaged the metallic insert that became ineffective

- for textile inserts, the test method defined in the EN 12658:2010 standard should eliminate the non-protective inserts, according to CEN TC 161.

The Ministry is thinking about the measures to be taken to gua-rantee the safety of the users. The Ministry of labor, with the help of INRS (French Institute of Research on Safety) and the notified bodies, will inform the European authorities.

Since the publication of EN 20345: 2011, the new models of safety shoes should follow the requirements below:

- all inserts must be tested according to EN 12568: 2010

- for CE certification it should be applied the new requirement of EN ISO 20345: 2011 for penetration resistance

- all the products which have not been assessed according to the new standards should not be put on the market, due to their dangerousness. This re-assessment on the new basis will be appli-cable to all the products on the European market and will take time. It will probably imply to define a transition period at the European level

- CTC advises all manufacturers to improve their products accor-ding to the new requirements as soon as possible, and to revise EC-type certificates.

> ctc, a reach expertBesides the new requirement of penetration resistance, Lionel GAUDILLERE also introduced the REACh regulation.

Most of the participants found the seminar very interesting and useful, and hoped CTC can conduct such kind of seminars more frequently. “It helps us understand the latest CE standard, which plays a key role to manufacture qualified safety shoes to export to European market“. A shoe representative said.
