Stitching Together Women’s Suffrage https://susanbanthonyhouse.org/sbam/

In honor of women’s history month in February, I came across the Susan B. Anthony House in Rochester, New York, and their project to make a display quilt to honor women’s suffrage. We may want to participate! This year, 2019, marks the 100th anniversary of the passing of the 19th Amendment, which gave women in the U.S. the right to vote. In commemoration of this, the Susan B. Anthony House is gathering quilt blocks done in sunflower yellow, purple and white, which were important colors in the women’s suffrage movement. There are a few other design instructions, but there is also a lot of freedom within their guidelines to design a block that highlights what the women’s movement means to you. (Kits are also available.) The Anthony House anticipates that the quilt will be displayed around the country much as the AIDS quilt has been – in sections or in its entirety, depending on the number of quilt blocks they receive.

Mystery Quilt UpdateQuite a few of you signed up for the Mystery Quilt! And there is anticipation as we go forward--I think most of us are looking forward to the process.

If you miss a meeting, please contact me at [email protected] to get the latest instructions. With the exception of possibly June’s meeting, we will be handing out instructions each month, and some months there will be a short demo on fast techniques. In some cases, there will be numerous ways to assemble your blocks.

If you signed up for the Mystery Quilt and decide NOT to continue, would you also contact me at the email listed above? The designer has given permission for 10 of us to use her pattern. We will have to square things up with her when we’re sure how many are actually following her pattern.

Thanks!Kathy C.

Collage Technique Update

Jacqui Snow has arranged for her friend, Shirley Chad, to come talk about the collage technique in October. That will give us time to get the majority of the year’s project done before tackling another technique. Shirley is hoping to teach a day long class in October to those in our club who are interested. More details to come!

Local Trips Coordinator - Looking for someone to coordinate local trips to the quilt museum, exhibits, local shop hops. Please contact Ethel or Kathy if you’re interested.
