` Medical University programs track student

rotations according to LCME standards: Paper-based

x Many universities still use paper& pen to track and validatestudent experiences while on rotation.

Limited Technology

x The IUMedical School uses an electronic system for

verifying student encounters

` These systems require Preceptors to sign (verify) encounters as soon as they

happen.

x Preceptors are forced to sign one encounter at a time

x Makes each procedure take longer than necessary

Students use a Windows Mobile orPalm OS device

x Meaning students who dont have these devices already are

forced to purchase an additional device.

` Our concept is to provide a web-based application thatis: Accessible on a PC and any major mobile smart phone.

` Issues with Labeling Our labeling scheme was a hybrid of domain specific and

IT related titles

x Domain : Log an Encounter

x IT: Percent (%) Complete

Users found these inconsistencies caused problems

while:

x Making selections as they navigated the interface

xInterpreting the feedback accurately that was provided bythe interface

` Issues with Graphics Our users within the medical field had difficulty with our

graphs because:

x The labels where vague

x The graphs where not organized to support the users goals

x Titles and Headings were to small to notice

` Taking the users feedback we are: Using more meaningful labels throughout the application

Making our headings more noticeable

Giving more descriptive titles to support the user in their

interactions

Making use of sorting, color, and direct user request to

provide a more pleasurable user experience
