Softball On Wednesday the 6

th of June the boys’ softball team

went down to West End Fields to play against Mudgee Public School. The boys felt nervous and jittery but as the game progressed they eased into it and got the hang of the game. Will Buckley took a good catch and Wes Anderson got 4 people out. Reuben Cavanagh managed to dodge the first base fielder but unfortunately got out. Tom Rich took an excellent catch as catcher and Brock Roe pitched well. We managed to get three home but it wasn’t enough to beat Mudgee Public. Thank you for the MHS umpires and a special thank you to Mr Walker and Mrs Blamire for selecting and coaching the team, and another thank you to the parents who transported the players. Reuben Cavanagh & Benjamin Jeeves

Cudgegong Floods Forbes The inaugural season of school basketball continues to gain momentum with our girls team winning 28-6 in their recent match against Forbes Public School. In difficult, outdoor conditions both teams found it hard to find the net early on. Cudgegong took a slight, 8-6 lead into half time but were not rattled by the closeness of the scores. Our girls really started to assert their authority in the third quarter with a much-improved passing game helping to expose the cracks in the Forbes’ defence. A trickle of early baskets gave way to a flow of 10, unanswered points for the period. With confidence high, the flood-gates stayed open in the final quarter with an additional 10 points being added to wash away any chance of a fightback from a gallant opposition. We now play Gilgandra and the team is very excited about this next challenge. Congratulations on a great effort girls. Mrs Channon

Debating Last Tuesday 5th June, the CVPS Debating Team won their debated against Coolah Central School in the first round of the Kerri Parkes Western Debating Challenge. The topic for the debate was “E-readers should replace books” and our team were the affirmative side. The four students, Will Buckley, Kate Edwards, Tara Wilson and Seth May, presented strong arguments and rebuttals. Congratulations to these four students! They will now go onto compete against Wellington Public School. Thank you to former teacher and debating coach, Mrs Sharon Harding, who adjudicated the debate. Miss Tritton and Mrs O’Connell

Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking

Congratulations to Chloe Green, Skye Simpson, Tully Robertson and Wes Pirie who were chosen to represent CVPS at the local final of the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition in Dubbo next Wednesday. Good luck to you all.

Rugby League On Thursday 7

th June, 20 boys from Years 4, 5 and 6

travelled to Orange to participate in the next round of the PSSA rugby league knockout competition. The first game, which was round 3 of the competition, saw them came up against Wallerawang Public. It was a tough game with the boys coming away with a hard fought 18-16 victory. In their second game, which was round 4 of the knockout competition, the boys came up against Dubbo South Public. The boys played even better than the first game and came away with a 30-10 victory. The next game, which was the Western Region semi-final, saw the boys came up against a very skilful Wellington Public School. The boys played their best game of the day and were victorious to the tune of 26-10. That win placed us in the Western Region final in which we came up against a side full of size and skill from Mulyan Public School in Cowra. After scoring the first try of the match, the boys were full of confidence but after Mulyan scored 2 quick tries just before half time, the boys new they had to fight hard in the second half if they were to get the victory. Mulyan were able to score again just after half time and they never looked back. The final score was 22-6. To make the final was a fantastic effort from the boys having to play 4 games of football on the day. They all showed fantastic sportsmanship and should be very proud of their achievement. Well done, boys. Mr Young

The 2018 PRC is well under way at CVPC with students from K-6 participating. Students from K-2 are reading books in class and 3-6 students are reading on

their own, both in class and at home. The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. Each year Mrs Donnelly issues the challenge of being the first class to read the most books. Last year we had over 250 students complete the challenge!!! The challenge can be entered online by visiting - https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/home.html and your child entering their own student username and password to logon. If you have any trouble with this or do not have internet access at home, please don’t hesitate to contact us through the office. Happy Reading, Dana Russell and Sharon Rayner
