DESCRIPTION
Brief Response to RIBA Open call which asked for projects that rethink or construct communities within the built environment, with a focus social and environmental sustainability. https://www.architecture.com/WhatsOn/Assets/Files/2016/OpenCallPDF22016.pdf Our response proposes farming communities along greater London's waterways through the use of hydroponic farming instruments. Mayan’s used hydroponic farming techniques
such as step planting and irrigation from rivers, utilising the natural
nutrients for farming
Hydroponics is the process of growing plants in sand, gravel, or liquid, with added nutrients
but without soil.

Through hydroponics, existing water ways can be used to grow a wide
variety of herbs, fruit and vegetables - Market -
The market will contin-ue to be the middle
man, however in this instance the supplier is
a few hops away...
- Workshop -
The physical maker of the community will also
engage with new farmers, as well as manage any repairs
- Seed Nursery -
Fledglings start here until they are ready for moving
to the grow chambers

Slow Sand Filtration Unit + Water basin(Doubles as a ballast to provide stability to the structure)
