The Degree Programme in Cultural Management trains professionals in the arts and finances. The programme provides the students with the ability to develop their

field both nationally and internationally, and enable them to participate in multidisciplinary cooperation to promote

arts and culture. In addition to management skills, the training emphasizes social influencing, internationali-zation, and the development of the necessary skills for

The main focus of the studies is on the development of the general working skills and the gradual improvement of the professional capacities. In accordance with the integrative perception of learning, the aim is to strengthen students’ theo-retical, practical, socio-cultural, and self-regulatory knowledge throughout the studies. Humak’s pedagogical perceptive is based on training and development pedagogy which means that most of the courses have their status in project work and actual training in real life conditions.

The Degree Programme in Cultural Management offers high variety of courses in English in the field of arts and cultural administration. During the academic year 2018–2019 students can choose courses both from the basic and advanced level of studies. All courses are implemented as part of Humak’s business life-ori-ented research, development, and innovation operations that prepares students for assessing and developing operating models in the cultural sector.

Courses in English are offered at our Turku Campus.Course offerings are subject to change.

FALL TERM 2018FINNISH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE, 5 ECTSIntended learning outcomes: Students learns the basics of Finnish language and culture and get knowledge of Finnish society and culture. Content: Basics of Finnish language and culture, conversation and reading in Finnish, examples of Finnish culture and visits to art exhibitions, concerts etc.

INNOVATION PRACTICES, 5 ECTS Intended learning outcomes: Students will be able to plan and implement multi-sectorial innovative projects; search for customer-focused, sustainable and financially viable solutions; develop the creativity and performance of teams. Contents: Collective and multi-sectorial creativity, teamwork.

MEDIA SKILLS 5 ECTSIntended learning outcomes: Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the communication requirements and media forms relevant to their chosen field; utilize a range of digital communication channels; draw up guidelines for communication materials production; draw up communication materials. Contents: Basics of image processing and desktop publishing; digital communication channels and software.

CULTURAL FUNDING, 5 ECTSIntended learning outcomes: Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the mechanisms of macroeconomics and interpret the associated indicators; demonstrate knowledge of funding sources and apply them; demonstrate knowledge of funding mechanisms and apply them; demonstrate knowledge of key concepts relating to creative industries and their regional, national and international meanings; demonstrate knowledge of sponsorship and corporate partnership practices and apply them. Contents: Crowdfunding, sponsorships and corporate partnerships; regional, national and international public funding, and private not-for-profit funding from the cultural management perspective.

PRACTICAL TRAINING: MULTISECTORAL WORK ENVIRONMENTS, 5/10 ECTS Intended learning outcomes: Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the possibilities of cultural management in various operating environments and sectors; organize multi-sectorial and multidisciplinary productions; develop cultural services; identify possibilities for arts-based work in different fields; identify the wellbeing effects of arts and culture. Contents: Students attend practical training in a real-world workplace and report on it according to the instructions. The covered topics include tools for multicultural work and production and the methods and forms of applied arts-based practice.

SPRING TERM 2019 FINNISH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE, 5 ECTS

Intended learning outcomes: Students learns the basics of Finnish language and culture and get knowledge of Finnish society and culture. Content: Basics of Finnish language and culture, conversation and reading in Finnish, examples of Finnish culture and visits to art exhibitions, concerts etc.

MARKETING, 5 ECTS Intended learning outcomes: Students will be able to identify and use different forms of marketing; identify the characteristics, purpose, possibilities and methods of marketing specific to their chosen field; draw up marketing plans and budgets; plan and implement marketing campaigns. Contents: Basics of marketing, customer benefit and target groups, marketing channels, plans and budgets; international marketing.

CULTURAL POLICY, 5 ECTSIntended learning outcomes: Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the operating principles of cultural policy both in Finland and abroad. Contents: Cultural governance in Finland; international and national culture and arts policy.

CULTURE AND THE ARTS, 10 ECTSIntended learning outcomes: Students will be able to analyze, interpret and explain the operating fields of arts and culture; demonstrate understanding of artistic work and cultural activity from the production perspective and apply their knowledge in practice; participate in discourse relating to these fields and present arguments using professional terminology; recognize the diversity of the arts and assess the prerequisites of different art forms. Contents: The structures of the arts and culture sector, artistic content; analysis of field- specific information, argumentation and writing.

PRACTICAL TRAINING: PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS, 5/10 Intended learning outcomes: Students will be able to organize productions and development projects or their components; plan and implement development activities; demonstrate developed competencies in a chosen area of the production process; develop sectorial and professional practices; build their professional networks; review and develop their career plans and professional identities. Contents: Students attend practical training in Finland and report on it according to the instructions. The period includes the planning, implementation and assessment of a production or development project for an organization or community in the student’s chosen area of the production process.
