Meeting friends

• Most 12-year olds in Nesøya greet their friends by saying "hei".

• It is also quite usual to give a friend a hug when you meet.

• Some people say "halla", which is a little bit cooler than the usual "hei".

Music

• Rock and Pop are the most popular music types.

• Hip Hop and R&B are also quite popular.

• Popular groups: The Killers, Cold Play

• Classical music is not popular among 12 year olds.

Food

• Mexican taco is by far the most popular dish!

• Pizza is following as a good no 2 and lasagne as no 3.

• Traditional Norwegian food as fish or "lamb in cabbage" is not among the favourite dishes.

Breakfast

• A large majority eats bread for breakfast.

Favorite spread: Jam

• Some have cereals instead.

• Very few eat porridge, fruit or egg and bacon during the week days.

Lunch

• Bread – again!!!

• Some eat salad.

• There's no food serving in school. All students have to bring their own lunch packs from home.

• Boring…!

Dinner

• Spaghetti is the most common dinner

• Fish is no 2

(Norway is after all a "fishing nation")

• Meat is no 3

Clothing

• Jeans and trousers are the most popular clothes to wear.

• 12 year olds put on a shirt, a suit, a dress or other "nice clothes" for special occasions.

• Favourite clothing colours: Blue, white, black and grey.

Pets

• More than 50% have a pet at home

• The most common pet is dog

• The second most common pet is cat

• Other pets: Guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, hens, horses and turtles.

Why don't you have a pet?

• Allergy is the main reason for not having pets.

Sports

• The majority do sports 3 or 4 days a week.

• Many exercise 6 or 7 days per week.

• Only very few do not exercise sports at all.

• Fotball is the most popular sport.

Other sports: Tennis, skiing, swimming, horse riding, athletics, gymnastics, dancing.
