SCIENTIFIC NEGLECT OF OUR CHILDREN IN A CULTURE OF FALSEHOOD

by Marvin W. Keith, Jr.

One hundred fifty years ago the great majority of youth had daily exposure to therealities of life. The upper classes were shielded from this knowledge but theywere in a severe minority. The average person on the economic ladder was wellversed in the inner workings of most of the machinery and apparatus of their livesfor several reasons. First was the relative simplicity of the technology of thetimes. Additionally everything ran more slowly then, more open to view and easyto understand.

Furthermore, children were everywhere. Compulsory school attendance, childlabor laws, middle and high school availability, and an urban majority did not

exist. Children, especially boys, had a freedom to observe those activities thatmen found to be most important. The horse was still the only significant mode of transport. The blacksmith with his forge fire and sparks had to be fascinating tosee and hear and the shaping of red hot radiant iron being wrought into allmanner of everyday objects by the smith could be projected by each boy into thethought, "I could do that some day". Children saw everything; animalsprocreating, machines running, stock butchering, building constuction, peopleliving and dying. Little was hidden except in the better, more sheltered homeswhere servants or hired help did the dirty work.

People did not need TV, they had life. Children entered adulthood with a

valuable understanding of the mechanics of life. There existed a large pool of competent, stable late teenagers, prepared for life because it was mostly just likewhat their parents had known.

Not so now.

Now, a modern century later, everything is a kind of silent electronic magic withartificial sound, computer generated, designed, built and maintained by a tinycadre of technomasters. Children reflect their parents ignorance of the inner working of their surroundings and live like strangers in a foreign culture magnifiedby a monstrous advertising effort to snatch their parents money, credit, will and

their children's allegiance. Popular attractive shills posture in phony appeals toinfluence today's babies to buy, to mimic, to crave.

Nothing from the media has truth. A media minute has a price that is being paid, via lies and subterfuge, by our kids.
