Iberia was populated by the Iberians, Basques and Celts. After , the peninsula came under the rule of the Roman Empire. Next it came under Germanic rule but later, much of it was conquered by Moorish invaders from North Africa. In a process that took centuries, Christian kingdoms iregained control of the peninsula. in the same year Columbus reached the Americas. Spain become the strongest kingdom in the world.

Prior to the Second World War, Spain suffered a devastating civil war and came under the rule of an authoritarian government, which oversaw a period of stagnation that was followed by a surge in the growth of the economy. Eventually democracy was peacefully restored in the form of a parliamentary constitutional monarchy. Spain joined the European Union, experiencing a cultural renaissance and steady economic growth.

Different types of views

Spain is the second country in the world with more spaces declared Reserve of the Biosphere by UNESCO, so there is a great diversity in the nature, from desert or volcanic landscapes to mysterious forests and fantastic beaches. In these places are located natural wonders such waterfalls falling into the sea, sandstone landscapes masterfully modeled by wind and rain, caves with underground lakes, basalt columns that seem carved, and even panoramas that appear from some distant planet to Earth.

Spain is surrounded by water on three sides, so much of the economy depends on the ocean.

Spain is the third country with the largest number of protected natural areas.Altogether 13 national parks try to represent the gray areas transformed by human exploitation, and deserve to be preserved for the beauty of its landscapes, the representativeness of their ecosystems, the uniqueness of its flora, fauna or their geomorphological wealth.

Doñana National ParkDoñana is a protected natural area located in Andalusia. its large expanse of marshland hosts during the winter numerous species of waterfowl, typically up to 200,000 people each year. Because of its privileged geographical position between two continents and its proximity to the place where the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, the Strait of Gibraltar, Doñana can observe more than 300 different species of birds a year, being a place of passage, breeding and wintering for thousands of them (aquatic and terrestrial) European and African.

The Falles is a traditional celebration held in commemoration of Saint Joseph in the city of Valencia, Spain. The term Falles refers to both the celebration and the monuments burnt during the celebration.

FOOD: Paella

There are many types of paella, Valencian paella is believed to be the original recipe and it consists of white rice, green beans, meat, white beans , snails, and seasoning such as saffron and rosemary. Another very common but seasonal ingredient is artichoke. Seafood paella replaces meat with seafood and omits beans and green vegetables.

A number of great artists have lived and worked in Spain. Among the most famous are El Greco, Diego Velázquez, Francisco Goya, Salvador Dalí, and Pablo Picasso, one of the most prolific artists in history and a major figure.

Its construction began in 1221, following French Gothic patterns , although it has, in its interior, several Renaissance and Baroque elements

It used to be a mosque situated in Córdoba.After the Spanish conquest, it was changed back into a church.
