July 7, 2009 Volume XVII I will rejoice in the God of my salvation... The Lord God is my strength, and He has made my feet like hind’s feet and makes me walk on high places. Habakkuk 3:15-19 I don’t know why it is still so amazing to me that God does great things but I am constantly in awe of our Lord! From such a difficult month in May to such an incredible month in June I cannot wait to tell you all about it! This month we had a tremendous time as the Lord seemed to answer all of our concerns of the previous month with, “ I am your God and I have promised you I will be faithful.” We have been reminded this month that while God has not promised us an easy road he has promised to walk it with us. And he has promised that he will use all the stuff we go through, for good, to make us more like Jesus! I want to share the highlights of June with you but I want to do it in a story. We had a team from Oklahoma and Dallas come down during the second week of June. This team was led by Pastor John Arthur from Tulsa and included Pastors Jim and C’Cie Birch from Okmulgee Oklahoma, Pastor Bustos from Tulsa, an amazing Russian man named Vlad who speaks fluent Spanish, Scott Robinson from Dallas and three awesome hard working teenagers, Tim, Tiffany and Jessica! We were joined by my good friends Oscar Cerna from Tacoma WA, and Liliana Hernandez from Mexico City. So with the introductions made, here is my story. Everyone did a great deal of traveling to get to San Luis, the team drove all through the night and then we all met in Mcallen Texas. We crossed the border the next morning and encountered the normal issues of paperwork and red tape. As we left Reynosa I was pulled over for some fascinating time with a Reynosa police officer. Finally we got on the road and we made pretty good time until we got about 30 minutes from San Luis. It seems that there was to be a Sugar Cane Growers convention in San Luis and so we got stuck behind thousands of sugar cane workers as they travelled at mind boggling slow speeds in their cane trucks and busses. So the last 30 minutes of our drive took us over 2 hours to complete. But we finally arrived and got everyone fed and in bed. The next morning we began our day with a prayer walk and plaza ministry which was amazing, the team felt comfortable right away speaking to young people in the plaza, we prayed for young people and Pastor Jim had special words of knowledge for several people as we ministered. That afternoon as we prepared to go back out for more ministry I was pulled over again, this time for a document check, which turned into an interesting time of arguing with the police that we had a better grasp of the law pertaining to our vehicles then they did. But with a little help from my lawyer over the phone and a lot of prayer from Lani at home we eventually won the battle. Curby Mission Newsletter
