The feel of the country in the heart of the city

Message from the Principal Mother’s Day We would like to wish all the mothers a happy Mother’s Day for Sunday and hope you enjoy a very relaxing day with your families.  Naplan We wish the students in years 3 and 5 all the best for the National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) on the following days next week:

Tuesday 10 May  Writing & Language Conventions

Wednesday 11 May  Reading

Thursday 12 May  Mathematics  Opportunity Class 2017 Students in Year 4 have been provided with a note detailing information on Opportunity Classes for 2017.  If you require further information you are welcome to contact the school.  Kindergarten 2017 Events As part of our Kindergarten Orientation Program we will be holding Coffee and Play on Wednesday 18 May and a number of Kindergarten Tours will be held this term.  If you know of a family who may have a child commencing at our school next year it would be appreciated if you could pass this information on.  PSSA We wish the students in Years 3‐6 who have been selected in PSSA teams all the best for the season which will commence on Friday of this week (6 May).  Parking/Crossings I appreciate that parking around our school can be congested at times in the morning and afternoon; however, it would be appreciated if parking can be followed according to the road signage.  When illegal parking occurs it does cause potential safety issues for the students and adults.  This is also the case with the crossing on Playfair Road.  Please follow the designated rules for the safety of our students and adults.  The safety rules are there to protect the wellbeing of our children.  Northern Beaches Eisteddfod During the month of May a number of students will be performing in the Speech and Drama section of the Northern Beaches Eisteddfod.  The students will be reciting poetry, prose and speeches they have prepared and rehearsed. Many students are also involved in drama group and duologue performances.  Students competing this weekend are: Cooper C, Elissa M, Summer T, Annabelle L, Henry P, Jack M, Ollie D, Patrick S, Claudia L, Olivia A, Maeve C, Hugo S and Chloe D. These students have worked really hard to prepare themselves for the Eisteddfod and we wish them the best of luck.  “Break a leg!”

Karen Crawford, Relieving Principal

The feel of the country in the heart of the city

From the Deputy

Combined Schools Band Performance I  was  absolutely  amazed  on  Tuesday  evening  when  our  Senior  Band  students  were  involved  in  a  combined performance with Balgowlah Boys’ Campus bands, Balgowlah North PS band and Brookvale PS band.

The students had a day of workshopping with the other schools and their conductors and returned that evening for a performance for parents. It was all new music and our Senior Band was fantastic. I was so proud of them!

Thank you to Mrs Elizabeth Flynn who stood in for our Senior Band conductor Catherine Libel. Mrs Flynn will be filling in for Carlos Villanueva on Monday at Band Camp.

Rugby League Jersey Launch Last  Friday  Senior  Rugby  League  players modelled  a  new  jersey  at  a  special  assembly. Our  school  has  entered  a partnership with the Knights Rugby League Football Club and they provided the wonderful new jerseys for our teams to wear.

Thank you to Mrs Winston and Mr Jensen for organising this fun assembly where the boys ‘hammed up’ being models and wore the jerseys.

Welcome back Mr Doug Neil Mr Neil, who had taught at Curl Curl North PS for many years, recently retired. However, that retirement was short lived  because we  asked  him  to  come  back  as  a  casual  teacher  and work  for  us. He  is  currently working with  the children from 3S while Miss Rebecca Sheerin is recovering from her surgery.

From all reports the doctors have advised Miss Sheerin that they are happy and optimistic about her surgery and now it  is the recovery and rehabilitation time that  is so  important. Our thoughts and prayers are with Miss Sheerin for a steady strong recovery.

Best wishes, Jeff Ballinger, Deputy Principal

Go Blue For Stew Day

It is time, once again, to support our local charity, Stewart House!

It would be wonderful if all children at CCNPS could come along on Wednesday 1 June wearing blue, (remembering a hat and closed‐in shoes), to support Stewart House. Bring  along $3 to buy a Stewart House high bounce ball.

Stewart  House,  at  Curl  Curl,  is  supported  by  the  NSW  Department  of  Education  and  Training, NSW  Health, NSW Teachers Federation and the teachers themselves through fortnightly payroll deductions. Stewart House provides 12 day stays for children in need.

“During their stay, children are provided with optometric, dental and medical treatment as well as emotional support. This  is balanced with health and educational programs and out of school activities to boost their self‐esteem and to promote a healthier lifestyle.” For further details visit: http://www.stewarthouse.org.au/

Important Canteen News The canteen  is now running at  full capacity. More than several  times this year the  lunch orders have  finished being packed up  to 20 minutes  late. This  is not  fair on  the kids who  receive  their  lunch  late, so please see below  for  the canteen ordering rules in order to alleviate this happening again.

All families who order should have their online account up and running by now.

For those families who are putting over the counter orders in, from Tuesday 29 March the cut off time will be 8.45am. If you or child will not be at school by 8.45am then it is essential that you open an online account where you can order any time at home online until the cut off time of 8.50am. All details for opening an account can be found by clicking on the following link which will take you to the canteen page on the school website.

http://www.curlcurln‐p.schools.nsw.edu.au/our‐school‐community/canteen

For families who are ordering over the counter please organise your own supply of bags, prepare the order at home with  child’s  name,  class  and  order written  clearly  on  the  lower  half  of  the  bag  along with  amount  enclosed  and whether change is needed and drop it off at the canteen before 8.45am sharp. Please do not come up to the counter and ask for bags, menu, pen etc. This is the main reason the lunches have been late so many times this year.

With PSSA  starting next  term and  the canteen having  to pack  lunches at  two different  times  it  is vital  that parents comply with these rules.

There have been many enquiries about  items not being  found on  the online menu. The  reason  for  this  is  that not everything is available every day. If you can’t see it on the menu then it is either not available that day or in the case of sushi it is past the cut off time which is 4.50 pm the day BEFORE, i.e. 4.50 pm Tuesday for Wednesday and 4.50 pm on Thursday for Friday. (Sushi is only available Wednesday and Friday.)

Thank you for your understanding.

Ken & the canteen Mums
