●  A UN policy brief said, Levels of nitrogen dioxide fell by more than 70 per cent during the lockdown in New Delhi.

●  According to the brief, the environmental gains could be temporary if the cities reopen without policies to prevent air pollution and promote de-carbonisation.

●  The Nitrogen Dioxide levels have fallen down in other countries as well. In China the levels have fallen by 40%, in Belgium, it fell by 20%, between 19-40% in the USA.

•  The discussions at the meeting broadly covered official business including election of the President of the AIIB and a roundtable discussion on the theme ‘AIIB 2030-Supporting Asia’s Development over the Next Decade’.

•  The Finance Minister mentioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative of creating a COVID-19 Emergency Fund for SAARC Nations.

•  She also highlighted India’s efforts in supplying critical medical health kits to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic and the nation's support towards the global efforts of COVID-19 vaccine trials.

●  The Chauk Chauraha will now be known as Lalji Tandon Chauraha and the Lucknow-Hardoi Road will be known as Tandon Marg.

●  The former MP Governor Tandon had started his political career when he became a councillor in Lucknow. He breathed his last on July 21, 2020.

●  Earlier, the Hazratganj Chauraha in Lucknow was renamed after former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee after his death in 2018.

•  लखनऊ नगर निगम ने मध्य प्रदेश के पूर्व राज्यपाल लालजी टंडन के नाम पर शहर में एक सड़क और एक क्रॉसिंग का नाम रखा।

●  The Prime Minister of India and the Prime Minister of Mauritius will jointly inaugurate the new Supreme Court building of Mauritius on 30th July, 2020.

●  It will be the first India assisted infrastructure project within the capital city of Port Louis, Mauritius.

●  The new Supreme Court Building is expected to become an important landmark in the city center symbolizing the strong bilateral partnership between the two countries.

●  It is one of the five projects being implemented under the ‘Special Economic Package’ of 353 million USD extended by the Government of India to Mauritius in 2016.

•  भारत के प्रधान मंत्री और मॉरीशस क ेप्रधान मंत्री संयुक्त रूप से 30 जुलाई, 2020 को मॉरीशस के नए सुप्रीम कोर्ट भवन का उद्घाटन करेंगे।

India-Mauritius Relationship •  Indo-Mauritian relations refers to the historical, political, economic, military,

social and cultural connections between the two countries. •  Connections between India and Mauritius date back to 1730 and diplomatic

relations were established in 1948 before Mauritius became an independent state (1968).

Centre launches pilot project to reduce emissions from agriculture केंद्र ने कृषि स ेउत्सर्जन को कम करने के लिए पायलट परियोजना शुरू की

●  The Union government launched the Green-Ag Project in Mizoram, to reduce emissions from agriculture and ensure sustainable agricultural practices.

●  The Green-Ag Project is funded by the Global Environment Facility, while the Department of Agriculture, Cooperation, and Farmers’ Welfare (DAC&FW) is the national executing agency.

●  Mizoram is one of the five states where the project will be implemented. Other states include Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Uttarakhand.

●  Other key players involved in its implementation are Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC).

●  The project seeks to integrate biodiversity, climate change and sustainable land management objectives and practices into Indian agriculture.

•  केंद्र सरकार ने कृषि से उत्सर्जन को कम करने और स्थायी कृषि प्रथाओ ंको सुनिश्चित करने के लिए मिजोरम में ग्रीन-अग परियोजना शुरू की।

High levels of ammonia in Yamuna water यमुना के पानी में अमोनिया का उच्च स्तर

●  High levels of ammonia (3 ppm) were recently detected in the Yamuna river.

●  Because of this, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) had to reduce water production capacity by 25 per cent.

●  The acceptable maximum limit of ammonia in drinking water, as per the Bureau of Indian Standards, is 0.5 ppm.

●  Ammonia is a colourless gas and is used as an industrial chemical in the production of fertilisers, plastics, synthetic fibres, dyes and other products.

●  It consists of hydrogen and nitrogen. In its aqueous form, it is called ammonium hydroxide.

●  This inorganic compound has a pungent smell. ●  If the concentration of ammonia in water is above 1

ppm it is toxic to fishes. ●  In humans, long term ingestion of water having

ammonia levels of 1 ppm or above may cause damage to internal organs.
