Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord April 12, 2020
Dear Friends,
Somehow, it’s an effort, a struggle to say to you “Happy Easter” today. Since St. Patrick’s Day, until today, Easter
Sunday, who would have thought or imaged that we would witness, experience, and try to accept the events, the
tragic news, and suffering of our world, our country, our community; the suffering of the people we know and love
near and far. Staggering numbers hard to imagine! Statistics which horrify and frighten us! Isolation, distancing,
and fear gripping our lives, our loved ones, and our livelihoods! No one has escaped the affects of the coronavirus;
not our families, our neighborhoods, not our parish community.
The “good” news today may be the oldest of account of the first Easter. I am comforted and consoled by today’s
gospel according to St. John because it is first announced by a woman! Mary’s message to John, the Beloved Disci-
ple, and to Simon Peter is: “they have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”
Mary Magdalene sees the empty tomb and comes to believe! John sees and believes! Peter sees and believes! Jesus
is Risen from the dead! The tomb is empty - the Gospel Message of the First Easter!! We certainly see and feel
emptiness this Easter. I do—maybe, you too!! The empty tomb gives us comfort and hope!!
In spite of our human emptiness and because of the empty tomb of Easter, we must renew our faith in this Risen
Lord. Easter 2020 invites us, requires us not to give up—but to renew our faith in the Risen Lord. And from the
Risen Lord we receive the courage, the strength, the comfort, and hope and the acceptance of the tragic events of our
crucified and pain-filled world—knowing and believing that from the empty tomb of the first Easter - Christ is
Risen.
He is truly Risen.
Alleluia.
So “Happy Easter” from your Pastor! - in the Risen Christ,
Fr. Brian
PALM SUNDAY— Distribution of Palms
The Evangelization Committee hosted a drive-thru distribution of blessed palms on Palm Sunday. We had a very
good turn out - 94 cars drove thru and many took palms for other family members. We also delivered to nine homes.
Parishioners were also able to drop off their Sunday Offertory Envelopes and Rice Bowls. In addition to palms, we
were able to hand out bulletins, the little White Easter Book, Living Faith Devotion Booklet, Divine Mercy Picture
and Prayer, Coronovirus prayer, assorted books and Celebration of The Word for Holy Week. Father Brian greeted
and wished everyone a “Happy Easter” as well as Arlene Nussbaum, Gerald Stopar, Amy Davis, Mary and Bob
Kring, Logan and Pat Eberhardt, Tom and Mindy Kring, and John Malich. There are still White Easter Books avail-
able at the East and West entrance in the narthex.
