ILC/CLIC WorkResponsible for design and simulation of ILC BDS beam tuning system.

Working system developed and simulated for ILC RDR. Since, there have been design changes which make BDS tuning more difficult- need to show can still make it work (SB2009b)

Maintain Lucretia beam tracking and modeling code (Matlab + C).

Currently exploring s/w and h/w upgrades to speed up simulations through parallelisation of code.

Test very similar tuning procedure at ATF2, see what works, where to improve

Understand limitations as reduce IP beta function / increase chromaticity of final focus system towards CLIC regime.

SLAC-Supported ATF2 Hardware SystemsHigh-availability PS for EXT & FFS Quad, Bend and Sext magnets.

Currently investigating upgrade of 6 matching quads to bi-polar supplies.

Magnet mover system for FFS Quads and Sexts.

Ongoing work to improve orthogonality and speed

C-band cavity BPM system electronics.

Resolutions tested down to 20nm

Test IPBPM electronics.

Aiming for 1nm resolution!

EXT stripline BPM readout system.

Uses LCLS developed analog boards.

Multi - OTR system

4 systems checked out in June, new targets for fall (2um Aluminium)

POST-IP 5-um Carbon wire scanner.

Work underway to fit IP assembly with Carbon wires

High-‐Level  Controls  for  Commissioning  and  Tuning

• Main  system  used  =  VSYSTEM  +  SAD  online  model–Mainstay  for  accelerator  operaCons,  tested,  maintained  and  stable.

• Alternate  system  developed  based  on  EPICS+  Matlab  +  LucreCa  beam  dynamics  code:  ATF2  “flight-‐simulator”–Portable  for  offsite  code  development  and  tesCng–Same  soPware  runs  either  in  producCon  or  simulaCon  mode  using  simulaCon  mode  of  low-‐level  EPICS  controls.–Can  interface  to  other  code  through  tcp/ip  socket  layer  or  EPICS  DB  interface.

IP  Tuning  with  FFS  Sextupole  MulCknobs

• IteraCve  use  of  various  knobs  to  bring  down  IP  spot  size  by  scanning  with  IPBSM.

IP  Tuning  Results  During  ConCnuous  OperaCons  Week

• Tuning  from  iniCal  setup  of  850nm  down  to  300nm  during  2  consecuCve  shiPs  last  Thursday.

• Beam  size  cross-‐checked  on  IPBSM  8-‐degree  &  30-‐degree  mode.• Trouble  reducing  beam  size  past  300nm  in  30-‐degree  mode  as  do  not  have  the  resoluCon  to  scan  higher  beam  sizes.
