Try to read with your child every day. They have been given a reading book suited to their ability as well as a library book. Please be aware that even if you believe your child is finding their reading book easy, it is vital that they understand everything that they read and can discuss what they have read in detail. You may find some comprehension questions at the back of the reading books.

In addition, children can earn stars to contribute towards earning reading certificates when they read at least four times per week. We will endeavour to read with your child at least once a week. RE

Belonging: family, community and the worldWhere and how people belong and why belonging is important.

You may wish to explain to your child that not everybody believes the same things and have the same faith. You may wish to discuss similarities and differences between your own faith and the beliefs of others. How we celebrate throughout the year may be very different. In addition, you can talk with your child about the different groups we belong to e.g. Gymnastics group or swimming group.

Music This term, we are lucky enough to continue to participate in music lessons led by Mr. Hodgson from String Together Orchestras, who will be working with the children each Friday morning.

Mr. Hodgson will be continuing to teach the children how to play the ukulele as well as playing various rhythm and body percussion games.

Share your favourite songs with your children and encourage singing at home.

You may wish to discuss with your child whether they would like to take up learning a musical instrument. We have peripatetic music teachers that come into school to teach children how to play instruments such as the piano, the flute and the violin.

PSHE & C

During our PATHS sessions this term we will be learning about:

Anger Management and Self-Control Being Calm/Relaxed Problem Solving – Privacy and Telling Your

Feelings.

At home, encourage your children to talk to you about how they are feeling and what is making them feel that way.

Explain that we all experience negative feelings at some point. Discuss what these feelings may be and what causes these. Share with your child what you do when you feel cross, upset or lonely. In addition, decide together on a place/space at home where your child can go when they are feeling cross or angry to calm down and reflect on their feelings.

Community Values

Throughout everything we do in school, the children will be taught and encouraged to; develop their self-knowledge, self-esteem and self-confidence. respect others. accept responsibility for their behaviour, show initiative, and to understand how they can contribute positively to the lives of

those living and working in the locality of the school and to society more widely. acquire a broad general knowledge of how to conduct themselves and show respect in various public places e.g. how to behave

in church. distinguish right from wrong and to respect the law of England. be tolerant of differences between various cultural traditions by enabling students to acquire an appreciation of and respect for

their own and other cultures. appreciate that other people may have different views from your own and have some understanding of a democratic process.

We would appreciate parents and carers supporting us in upholding these important British Values by reinforcing these at home.
