Reading for Pleasure

Read any book, comic, newspaper or non- fiction book you like. Find a comfortable, quiet place and read to your heart’s content.

Design a cover picture and write the ‘blurb’ for the back of your book.

Spelling Try to learn these spellings by first reading them, then cover up and practise them by memory. Keep checking if you are correct. Spellings: (silent o , h and c – revision) 1. young 2. double 3. trouble 4. country 5. chemist 6. character 7. chorus 8. choir 9. scheme 10. scene 11. scenic 12. scenery 13. science 14. scientific 15. discipline 16. fascinate 17. crescent Pick 10 spellings to put into spelling sentences. Remember to use a range of sentences, don’t start them all the same and use accurate punctuation.

Spellings: (Silent letters) 1.lamb 2. thumb 3. doubt 4. subtle 5. solemn 6. autumn 7. thistle 8. whistle 9. knight 10. known 11. knuckle 12. knife 13. wreck 14. wrench 15. sword 16. answer 17. island Practise your spellings and handwriting joins in your handwriting book.

Read and Respond

This is a weekly plan that replicates daily lessons similar to school lessons. These plans on the school website on a weekly basis but participation is optional.

Grammar Find out what a modal verb is. Make a list of all the ones you can find and how they are used in sentences. Then teach someone else or something (pet, toy or a plant) else all about them.

Punctuation Revise using apostrophes for contractions. would not= wouldn’t should not= could not= did not= I am= he is= she is= Find as many examples as you can.

Speaking & Listening Find a poem or short story that you really like and practise reading all or part of it out loud. Make it interesting for people to listen to. Use different voices and perform it. A bit like Revolting Rhymes!

Maths

Number Facts TT RS or NumBots Daily 10 Mathletics Make factor triangles for the table facts you find tricky.

Counting

Count forward and backwards in steps of 10 from 301, 502, 604, 705, 206, 407, 808, 909. Challenge: Try it with 20s.

Measurement (weight/volume and capacity

You’ll need a few bits of equipment: measuring jug or scales, cups, glasses, egg cups etc. Estimate which item holds the most water, fill it with water then pour it into the measuring jug and see how many ml or Litres it will hold. Order your items from smallest capacity to the largest. If you haven’t got a measuring jug but have weighing scales you could predict which item is the heaviest and which is the lightest and then weigh and order them.

Time Design a poster showing how to convert between hours, minutes and seconds.

Measure (distance)

Measure the length and width of any room in your house (not the toilet!). You can

Statistics Complete a bird survey in your garden. You could pose several different questions to find the answer to such as ‘What is the most common bird in my back garden?’ or

Mathletics Please log into Mathletics and complete the activities I have set for you. You can try some other activities as well.

measure with anything: hands, loo rolls, a ruler, a tape measure etc.

Once you’ve measured, multiply the length by the width to find the area. For example: If you measured the lounge with a loo roll and the length was 100 loo rolls and the width of the room was 50 then the area would be 100 x 50 = 5000 loo rolls square.

Then find the perimeter by adding all the lengths together 100 + 100 +50 +50 + 300 loo rolls .

‘What is the busiest time for birds in my garden?’ You will find a link in the Outdoor Learning section. You can then make a tally and frequency chart and then present your findings in a bar chart. Challenge: Investigate using a pictogram.

Topic- Geography, History, Science, R.E

Science Draw a diagram of the human digestive system and label it. Describe what jobs the digestive system does. Watch the clip ‘Food’s Incredible Journey’ to help you. https://www.stem.org.uk/resources/elibrary/resource/36133/digestive-system

Science

How can we make sure our digestive system stays healthy? What can we do to help it?

P.E Have a go a learning this Strictly dance. It was a challenge for the BBC1 ‘Big Night In’. It would be brilliant if we could all learn it and then we can perform it together when we get back! https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p089h234 https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p089l3j9

P.S.H.E Have a think and a discussion about why and how do rules and laws protect others and us. Why do we have different rules in different situations and how can we take part in making and keeping to these rules?

P.S.H.E What rules do you think are important for us to adhere to when we come back to school? Why do we need these new rules? Write your rules down on a list. What should the consequences of breaking the rules be?

Creative learning- Art/D&T, Music, Language, Computing

Your Peaceful Place Take 5 deep breaths and close your eyes. Imagine a place where you feel peaceful and safe. This could be your home, with your family or friends or even on the beach or park. Focus on what you see in this peaceful place. Notice colours and shapes in this place; notice the sounds that are around you; think about any smells you notice there. Notice how you feel when you are there. Open your eyes, feeling a sense of calmness wash over you.
