3.1. (a) July 1972 – Sept1974: Ministry of Labour, Factories Inspectorate: Trained as Factories Inspector ( Engineering)through attachment to different engineering firms both Local and overseas. (b) Sept 1974 – Sept 1975: Undertaken an M.Sc. programme at Imperial College of Science and Technology, University of London, in Applied Mechanics. Industrial attachment in UK firms for one month.

(c) Oct 1975 – Aug 1976: Ministry of Labour, Factories Inspectorate: Worked as a Factory Inspector in Engineering areas.

3.2. August 1976 – Sept 1977 – University of Nairobi, Department of Mechanical Engineering,

(a) University of Nairobi, Department of Mechanical Engineering, teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in: Solid and Structural Mechanics, Theory of Production Processes, Fracture of Materials, Continuum Mechanics and High Pressure Engineering. Also carried research in the area of Fracture and Fatigue in the Department and supervised master’s degree students.

(b) Administrative Duties: (i) Chairman, Department of Mechanical Engineering - 1983-1986 (ii) Dean, Faculty of Engineering – 1985 August -1989

3.5. August 1989-May 1997:

Kenya Railways Corporation as Executive Chairman i.e. Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Board of Directors. In charge of top management of the Corporation and Chairman of the Board of Directors. Involved with major restructuring and reorganization of the Corporation to make it commercially viable and customer driven. Also involved with International Railways organizations as:

(a) Member of the Management Board of the International Railway Congress Association (IRCA) - 1990-1993.

(b) President of Union of African Railways (UAR) - 1992-1994- when I carried out major restructuring of the organization.

(c) Member of Management Board of International Union of Railways (UIC) where I was involved in different capacities from 1993 - 1997: (i) Chairman, Advisory Board (U.I.C) - made of all non-Europeans Railway -

Jan 1994 - Oct 1995. (ii) Chairman, High Level Reflection Group of U.I.C- In charge of Restructuring

of U.I.C to include non-European Railways as Full members - March 1994- October 1995

(iii) Chairman, World Executive Council of U.I.C - Twenty (20) Member Railways of Council looking after all affairs of World Railways of U.I.C - Jan 1996 - May 1997.

(iv) Vice-President - International Union of Railways (U.I.C) - Jan 1996 - May 1997.

(d) Member of the Management Board of Federation of Kenya Employers (F.K.E): 1991 - May 1997.
