2: BACKGROUND
2.1 Wessel was born on 6 September 1963 in Bloemfontein and matriculated from Sentraal High School in 1981
2.2 He joined the SADF in 1982 and completed military service at end of 1983
2.3 In January 1984 he joined Bloemfontein based consultants Strydom, Newmark an Anthony and worked as a learner draughtsman until July 1984.
2.4 He resigned from SNA to join Mossel Bay based consultants Kurzke, Salmon Braam van der Walt in August 1984. For the next 10 years he gained experience in design and construction under supervision of Braam van der Walt (Pr Eng) in most fields of civil and structural engineering such as Roads & Stormwater, Sewer Reticulation, Water Reticulation and the design and drawing of structural steel and reinforced concrete structures. He was extensively involved in the design and construction of internal roads of Mossgas from 1988-1993 (Now called PetroSA).
2.5 He joined mother company of Kurzke, Salmon Braam van der Walt, Van Heerden, Calitz and Hayes in 1994 and moved to Lichtenburg in the North-West province. He worked as town engineer in the former Bophuthatswana towns of Itsoseng and Atamalang for the next 5 years up to November 1998. He was responsible for the preparation of budgets, maintenance and upgrading of these towns to budget restraints. In this time he managed 3 foremen and 30 workers.
2.6 He resigned from VHCH in November 1998 to join MVD Consultants in his home town Mossel Bay. In the following 15 years he received formal training in the electronic field with draughting programs Autocad and Modelmaker and design programs Modelmaker and Roadmaker. He also underwent survey training with Total station and GPS equipment.
In this period of his career as a senior technician with the company he is extensively involved in the design, supervision and surveying of mostly civil projects including Roads and Stormwater, Sewer Reticulation and Water Reticulation.
He also prepared numerous detailed drawings and the reinforcing scheduling of concrete structures such as sewer pumpstations, stormwater inlet structures and reinforced concrete slabs for new dwellings.
He was also involved in the preparation and shopdetailing of structural steel drawings to a lesser degree.
In this period of his career he gained lots of experience in project management, programming of work, holding site meetings and the minutes thereof as well as measuring and processing progress and final certificates for payment by the client.
2.7 He resigned from MVD in March 2014 to move to Cape Town and start his own company called We Do Designs in April 2014. In the following year he was involved in the design, supervision and physical construction of the newly built GRI Windsteel factory in Atlantis Cape Town.
He also did the design, supervision and physical construction of earthworks and layerworks for a newly built factory for Fabricated Steel Manufacturers in Atlantis

3.6 CAPIBILITIES

3.6.1 CIVIL
Assesing site situations according to geotechnical reports
Surveying of site and existing services for the purpose of design
Designing of complete Road and Stormwater systems, Sewer and Water Reticulations and preparing final detailed drawing thereof for approval by authorities.

Calculating mass earthworks volumes for any type of design.
Managing projects in terms of regular site meetings and the minutes thereof, programming and certification of progress payments, close-out reports etc.
Preparation of final asbuilt drawings.
