The day before the Memorial Day Weekend the library found that we had been abandoned by our lawn cutting service without any warning. Through Library Clerk, Linda’s Howell’s, last second efforts, the Eagle Ridge Golf Club jumped in to mow the acre of grass around the library building. Many thanks go out to Jerome and Barbara Orefice for sending their crew and large mowers over to do the job so that the library looked good for the holiday. But that was a temporary solution since the golf course can’t take the time to do that every few weeks. Moira and her garden tractor jumped into the gap and kept the turf down through June and now into July. Another temporary solution. An FOL member donated a little larger tractor that needed a new engine so the Friends purchased the engine and John Maus has installed it on the old tractor. Now the library needs a home for our new landscaping tool so a garden shed is in the works. Stay tuned next month for further developments on that project. It’s been a very busy summer. But that was a temporary solution since the

An FOL member donated a little larger tractor that needed a new engine so the Friends purchased the engine and John Maus has installed it on the old tractor. Mick Morrison generously donated Rumble Seats and Lumber Camps last Christmas. This book contained reminiscences and anecdotes written by people who live in Northern Michigan. (You’ll find stories written by Wilber Garret and Geri Moody there!) In July the library was able to purchase another in the series of books, Wood Fire Saunas and Iron Mines, a collection of stories by folks from the Upper Peninsula collected by Hometown Memories LLC.

Each year from January thru April Hometown Memories accepts stories written by people from different areas of the country that are announced on January 1st on their website. In fall these books are available for purchase. As you can see, this coming fall, there will be another book in the series dealing with our specific area of Michigan. If you are interested in telling your story, check out their web page : www.hometownmemoriesonline.com to find out how and where to send your personal memories. This Fall’s MI volume should be interesting!
