Shades of Grey

As we move into 2017, Grey—an on-trend neutral—continues to be a popular color choice for cabinetry. When stained or painted on smooth, beautifully-consistent maple, shades of grey allow designers to create a soothing look that works well with any design style.

Because of grey’s growing popularity and to stay on point with kitchen and bath industry trends, we recently added two new grey stains on maple, Shadow and Charcoal. Sea Drift and Shadow are our lightest grey stains; Sea Drift is slightly opaque and has a cool tint, while Shadow is clear, with a warm tone. Our darkest is Graphite, and medium-toned Charcoal fills in the mid-range of grey.

Overall, one of our most popular stains is Graphite. On maple it is a rich, warm grey-brown and it will look different on different wood species. For this reason, we call it a “chameleon” color because it changes color as it allows the grain pattern and natural colors of the different woods to show through.

We have five standard grey paints, starting on the lighter side and gradually becoming darker—Fog, Mist, Ash, Smoke and Thunder—all colors picked by our in-house design team and part of our Curated Collection of 24 popular paint colors.

With an ability to remain neutral while allowing stronger colors to shine grey is a popular choice for walls, furniture and cabinets. A pale, barely there grey such as Sea Drift or Fog, can be an ideal backdrop for an open

Shades of Grey (continued)living area where colors need to blend together. Grey also bridges the gap between black and brown and provides a neutral base.

Grey is incredibly versatile, and when layered in a variety of shades, textures and finishes, it can look casual or sophisti-cated, and grey spaces feel calm and coordinated. Pairing light grey with deeper shades of grey add dimension to a room and when you mix in a bolder color, you’ve got a room that is classic and fun.

Combining greys of different tones is a beautiful alternative and by using light and dark grey you can create a rich, contrasting look that is harmonious and coordinated. Our grey paints were chosen to mix and match with other paint colors in the Curated Collection, or to complement any number of our wood stains.

See how our collection of grey stains and paints—from soft hues to saturated tones—can be your go-to neutral on maple and bring serenity to your kitchen, bathroom, home office or media room. Shades of grey are great for any space, whether you’re looking to create a relaxed, beachy feel, sleek, contemporary space or a stormy vibe.

Sea Drift

In 2016 alone, Chew Out Loud’s recipe for Buttery Jam Thumbprint Cookies was pinned over 240,000 times on Pinterest! These tender, melt-in-your-mouth cookies are easy to make with only 6 ingredients!

Ingredients: » 1 cup (2 sticks) salted butter, softened to

room temp (not melty) » ½ cup confectioners’ (powdered) sugar,

plus ¼ cup more for dusting » 2 tsps pure vanilla extract » 1/8 tsp table salt » 2 cups all-purpose flour » ½ cup thick fruit preserves (raspberry,

blackberry, and peach are all great options)

Preheat oven to 325° F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a stand mixer with a paddle attachment, beat butter and sugar until fluffy (about 2 minutes on medium-high speed). Add vanilla and salt, scraping the sides of the bowl as needed. On medium-low speed, gently mix in flour. Dough will be sticky! If it’s too sticky, cover and chill for 30 minutes. Roll dough into 1-inch balls, placing them on parchment lined baking sheet. Create a deep well for the jam by pressing down in the center of each dough ball. Fill the center of the cookies generously with jam.

Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Once cookies are cooled, dust with confectioner’s sugar and enjoy!

Spend Less TimeCleaning Your Home

Dust as much as you can and don’t forget the up-high and hard-to-reach spots. Once you have dusted each room it’s a good idea to go through and vacuum the entire house in one sweep.

When disinfecting your kitchen, soap, water and a washcloth can be used on countertops, stove tops, oven, microwave and the refrigerator. This simple cleaning solution is not only cost effective, but you won’t waste time finding a different cleaner for each item in your kitchen. It keeps you from using harmful chemicals in your cooking space!

Soap scum and grime can be tough to scrub through. Spray disinfectant on the bathtub, sink, countertops and toilet. Let the cleaner do the work for you by letting it set in for a while. This is a good time to complete another task. By the time you get back, the soap scum and grime will be easier to wipe up.

Dried food spills in your refrigerator or on the stove top take time to scrub clean. Save yourself the hassle by wiping up spills as soon as they happen.

Cleaning your entire home can take up a big chunk of time. You might think tackling one room at a time is an efficient strategy, but it’s often time-consuming. Clean smarter, not harder with these tricks that will have your home sparkling in no time.

Invite your guests to help prepare and assemble the mealNot only will this ease your work load, it’s a great way to make your guests feel at home.

Prep the kitchen for easy clean up Before you begin cooking, line baking sheets and pans with aluminum foil or parchment paper. This will keep you from having to scrub them later. Keep a big bowl on the counter to collect food waste and garbage as you prep food.

Have an end-of-the-night planIf you are ready to call it a night, but your guests are still hanging out, try one of these clear yet friendly signs that it’s time for them to leave: Make a pot of coffee, turn up the lights, blow out candles or start packing them to-go containers of leftovers. If those don’t work, say that it’s getting late and you should let them get home to bed.

Play to your strengthsIf you don’t enjoy formal sit down dinners, opt for a brunch, cocktail party or open house. Don’t feel obligated to cook and hold the gathering at your home either. See if your favorite local restaurant can host your event or do the catering for you.
