This was a customer initiated program that required a completely new set of DWP compartmentalised supporting infrastructure and applications/services interfaces. These new “UC” compartments would interface with existing DWP systems and services and pave the way for a new Pan-Government “Cloud” compartment.

This project resulted in the acquisition and fit-out of a world-class award winning “green” data centre as well as the largest wholesale data centre migration in Europe. The migration strategy is now one that is modelled globally and the resulting world class data centre network was the first of its kind globally and subject of subsequent supplier white-papers. EDS (and subsequently HP) were the first to pioneer data centre migrations using network centric 3-site HVPLS Core strategy whilst able to claim that during the entire Data Centre Migrations program there was zero down-time for customer services.

Key Tasks:Key Tasks:Key Tasks:Key Tasks: • Develop and manage project/program lifecycles ensure delivery of key milestones. • Develop and manage project budget for multiple project streams totalling £38M+ • Management of large, often virtual teams (national and global) across 3 separate program disciplines • Chair to internal project governance and assurance events/reviews. • Manage Client reporting against payment milestones and contractual obligations • Manage Customer/Client relationships • Manage procurement for multiple project streams • Develop relationship with key network suppliers / develop support contracts • Manage change and risks • Manage security accreditations • Assist with feasibility studies for accommodation • Effective team and project communication.

The transformation of the DWP network resulted in a world-class network offering which enabled the move to “HVLPS Core” technology. This technology would subsequently enable the “Network Centric Migration approach” which allowed EDS/HP to achieve DWP Datacentre Migration on-time, under budget and with zero down-time for the customer. Without the NeST Program, the network centric Datacentre approach would not have been feasible. Since the NeST prgramme there have been no further network outages of the kind experienced in 2007.

The TREDSS (H1 – Program) was a joint DWP and EDS program which had multiple streams (or initiatives) designed to align EDS’ Services with DWP requirements. Specifically the “H1 – Initiative” covered The migration of existing VME mainframe systems from Norcross and Swindon to Doxford and Washington, providing, the capability of Disaster Recovery within 24 hours for VME mainframe systems which would enable the closure of Swindon Data Centres and improve dramatically on DR times from up to 20 days to less than 24hrs.
